$10 STEAK meals on SUNDAY = so worth it.

In the city, It can be hard to find a meal that is satisfying and worth the money you pay. This place gives you the goods.

Three times now, I've had the Sunday steak meal. Every time it's been quality! Quality steak, fresh and large chips and tasty salad.

Even when it's busy, the do not skimp on the quality and quantity (which I SO appreciate) and I put down to great management.

Keep up the awesome work. Please don't change these Sundays. We rely on them

The menu at the shiny and new Communal Bar and Eat House is huge. Not just in options to order but in size. It's A3 at least and yet it still can't distract you from what a change this side of Brisbane Square (nearest the library) has undergone. This side is taken up by Communal which is a bar come bistro come sit down dining space. It's also joined by Meat & Eat, Chow Down and Cafe Brisbane.

Behind the subway tiles, yellow accents and wood panelling and just enough design sensibility to balance it all, is a well-polished casual dining option. Communal is bringing affordable and decent quality to city-workers, tourists and general punters alike.

There's nothing scary or particularly unfamiliar on the menu. Steaks, seafood, pizzas, burgers, and your standard Caesar or Greek salads feature along with trusty chips and aioli. And it's this that makes it a great choice for entertaining anyone and everyone. It's not going to polarize too many if you're dining in a group. And, if you're like me who fights the "this is too fancy" fight every time your folks are in town, then bookmark Communal - they'll feel right at home with their hearty steak sandwich while still secretly appreciating they tried something new.

I dined at lunch and opted for the greek lamb salad with heirloom tomato, citrus olives, haloumi and verjuice. There was even some pink grapefruit snuck in along side the decorative and edible flowers. As far as CBD lunch time options go, this fits nicely under the $20 mark, leaves you feeling well-fed and feels nothing like the fast-paced takeaway office lunches you might be familiar with.

Service was speedy and it's worth noting it's counter service where you'll be given a table number. Should you be settling in for a long lunch or there for dinner you can pair your meal with a range of 24 tap beers, cocktails by the jug and wines from an expansive selection.

They say sharing is caring so why not grab a long table, a bunch of friends and put Communal's menu to work!

Have been to Communal a couple of times now, and it's quickly becoming one of my favourite spots in the city..
At first glance, the menu does seem quite overpriced, but then you realise that the share platters are probably very huge and could serve a small group of people (not that I've ordered one of these share platter YET).
Three out of the four times I've visited we've ordered the sangria jug, a woodfired pizza and hot chips and the fourth time, I tried the karaage chicken burger - delicious!
The only reason why I'm not giving this 5 stars is because the music is often a bit too loud for conversation, and being an open plan restaurant the lack of air conditioning would make me avoid this place on a hot day..
Highly recommend to anyone that fancies a pizza and drinks after work, I think that this place would be great for a large group!

Love this place! Recently opened up in Brisbane. Great chilled vibe, artistic-industrial interior and awesome food.

One of the guys from work quit and was moving away, and this is where he organised his going away drinks.

Well gosh. Last time I was here this was a newsagent.

It's a snazzy new bar, mostly outdoors. There's a good range of drinks, and the menu is not bad either! I got some sort of seafood linguini, and it was pretty good! Certainly no complaints from anyone in our group about their food.

They accommodated a table for about 20 of us, but it was a Sunday night. Not sure how that would go on a busier night.

Over all, I had a good time here and I'd definitely visit again. I should probably give them 4 stars, but they had pav on the menu, but no pav in reality. Gosh, I really could have gone some pav.

I was lucky enough to be invited as Yelp's guest to the opening of this hot new addition to the Queen Street dining scene. Greeted with a fantastical bevy of Brisbane's social media squad, the evening was filled with loads of delicious drinks, eats, speaks, and (of course) plenty of instagramming of the above.

We were greeted by Anthony Attard, general manager of Communal Bar and Eat House as well as it's 3 brothers and sisters: Cafe Brisbane, Meat & Eat, and Chow Down. Located right under the Brisbane public library at Reddacliffe Place (just opposite the Casino by Queen Street Mall), Communal Bar and Eat House is now dishing out a host of brick oven pizzas, burgers, modern Australian mains, as well as a wide selections of cocktails, wines and beers to boot. The area is set up as a series of stations to order what you may fancy and enjoy it in a casual, covered al-fresco area. Alternately, there is also a served alcove at the back of the venue for a more formal dining experience seated at long communal tables.

We sampled some of the best drinks and foods the menu had to offer starting with a couple of their pizzas loaded with delicious toppings atop a thin and crispy crust fired in their giant yellow brick oven dubbed Big Bird. After being seated in the dining alcove amidst a Warhol-esq Audrey Hepburn painting, we continued our experience with a beautiful platter of carved pork belly and rib fillet (equipped with what seemed to be all 18 inches of its tomahawk bone for presentation) as well as a tiered seafood platter boasting chilled and cooked prawns, scallops, fish, bay bugs, crab and oysters. Some highlights of the meal for me included the fried calamari (which I later learned from head chef Ben to be dusted in a mixture of rice flour, Chinese five spice and Schezuan pepper), the truffled mashed potato, and the beach bum cocktail, a mixture of mount gay eclipse, pampero blanco, cartron apricot brandy, falurnum and lime juice.

In all quite the delicious evening indeed. I truly look forward to grabbing some friends and coming back here to try a host of other items on their menu.

Stopped in for a beer and ended up trying their burger special... a GREAT $5 burger in a land of $18 mediocre ones. Plan on checking out the $10 steak special this weekend!

Stopped by to check out this place last night and was pleasantly surprised.

They offer a great selection of beers on tap, the food is fresh and tasty, and their prices mean you could easily spend the whole night here without leaving your wallet crying.

I'd definitely recommend Communal - it has a great chilled atmosphere and the staff are lovely too!
