Yesterday was my birthday. (I'm not a kid anymore.) Because we had really enjoyed our recent visit to Peru, Kathy took me to Coracora, a Peruvian restaurant in West Hartford. It had authentic Peruvian food, very well prepared - and even a soda I had learned to like during our visit: Inca Cola. I was afraid I'd never find it here in the U.S.
I ordered a 10 oz. Rib-eye a lo Pobre with fried egg, rice, fries, and sweet plantain. The steak was perfect and delicious, and I love plantain. It was a great meal, topped off with a sampler of 3 ice-cream flavors.
Kathy had Arroz Con Mariscos, a seafood paella, which she also loved. She also had the 3 Ice-cream flavor dessert. We should have ordered one portion to share - it was too much for us to finish.
I was tempted, but I passed on Pisco, a Peruvian liquor which packs a punch.
We'll be back.
The service was impeccable; my only (very minor) complaint was that it was loud. I recommend it to anyone who likes to eat.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 16, 2024
A lovely night at Coracora! This place is quite unassuming at first glance, built in a remodeled fast food restaurant (with the drive through still intact) it's one of the most unique fine dining experiences I've been to in terms of ambience. They had all the Peruvian classics, and since I was in a big party, I thankfully got to try a lot of the menu!
Some of my favorites were the ceviche, the tallarines verdes, and the rotisserie chicken. Some of the dishes were a little on the saltier side like the Aji de Gallina, which I didn't love but overall still had nice flavors.
Excellent attentive service. VERY fast with bringing food out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 237157Jan 25, 2024
Listen, I want to love this place. On paper it should be great and honestly I'll still visit occasionally but here's the issue: it's a restaurant built on an old McDonald's foundation, charging fine dining prices.
Walking in they have nice decorations but then the old mcd tile. Bathrooms still look like fast food bathrooms. Everything is in need of a remodel but they've chosen to throw some nice decorations around hoping you won't notice. But it's very noticeable. Especially when you're paying so much for food and drinks. Now if the prices were a lot lower I would be able to over look the aesthetics and enjoy it for what it is but I can't.
The food is great. The service is great. The drinks are fun and delicious.
But at the end of the day I shouldn't be paying well over $100 for two people for "comfort food" at an old McDonald's.Helpful 1Thanks 2Love this 0Oh no 3 - L M.Windsor Locks, CT148137Nov 21, 2023
We've been here 2x recently. When we first walked in and saw the two life-sized stuffed llamas in the entrance, I knew this would be a fun experience! Don't miss that great photo op, btw. Lots of colorful decorations hanging from the ceiling in the main dining area. Very festive! The staff here are all very pleasant, from the hostess to the servers.
The menu is a bit pricey, but the presentation is BEAUTIFUL and the food delish! But we mistakenly ordered a $60 appetizer for 4 people. It was good but definitely priced too high. The calamari was crispy and tasty, though. And the paella is super delicious, full of flavor. The sides are really interesting. Make sure you order the yucca fries!!! Totally addicting with their green sauce. YUM!!! The lentil side dish was one of my favorites. The flavor was amazing! For my meal, I ordered the Asado Criollo, tender roast beef cooked in wine with raisins. The meat was extremely tender! Another time I tried the tacos, which were unlike any I've had before. Fairly simple but again, tasty tender pieces of meat! The presentation of the food and drinks definitely added to the whole enjoyable experience. Oh, and I even liked the textured pink water glasses!! Definitely a fun time. Try it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 12, 2024
The food was a TEN OUT OF TEN! Loved everything about their food. It was well seasoned, it tasted SOO good, and the presentation was amazing! The service was good. Not great. It was hard to find our server when we needed water, napkins, utensils, etc. We would have to ask other servers for help. Like we seriously asked 4 other people for help lol. Not all of them delivered but that's okay! The ambiance was veryyyyyy decorated lol. I liked the vibe and tbh, it was clean.

Wonderful authentic casual spot in a renovated McDonald's location. We started off with complimentary Peruvian beans in a spicy sauce. The Pisco sours are made from scratch NOT from a mix. Fish ceviche delicious - pork tamale appetizer : large piece with onion salad very good. We split the shredded chicken pecan entree - it was tasty but a bit heavy for my taste. They put a lot of effort into presentation. The spices are tangy but not overwhelming. The service is wonderful. Reasonable prices. Festive atmosphere.

We went out for a lady's night! As usual the food and drinks were delicious. The atmosphere was nice with an average amount of people in the restaurant! Definitely recommends for a cute date night spot! The indoor decor is really pretty!

Our server was so sweet and helpful, she suggested the quinoa stew as a side and it was delicious. The empanadas had almost a sweet dough and so good, the guava ones were like a dessert and the savory ones had great flavor too, none of them were dry. The decorations are adorable as well.
