My son has been taking piano lessons with Maria for about 5 years. He started when he was 6yo, and I loved how Maria encouraged creativity from the very beginning. My son was so proud of his first "song" that he composed! Over the years, Maria has taught him the obvious logistics of playing piano, as well as how to perform for an audience, how to create and maintain a gig list, etc. I think more importantly, Maria has also taught my son an appreciation for the power of music. He takes a lot of pride in his performances and his ability to play. Like most middle-schoolers, my son isn't the most motivated student but Maria finds a way to encourage him to stay on track without overwhelming him. As a family of five, we appreciate that most of the performances are casual ("come in your soccer gear if you need to") and that we can usually reschedule a lesson when we have a conflict.
