I went to the oral surgery department to get all of my wisdom teeth removed. Yes, the worst thing about this place is the long wait. Just over 3 hours elapsed from the time I arrived (20 minutes before my appointment time) to the time I first met my surgeon in the surgery room. From the time I got into the surgery room, it took about 15 minutes and I was knocked out.

That being said, I would recommend this place if you have the time, patience, and/or urgency to get an extraction. The initial place I was referred to could not take me for over a month, and as a college student, I wanted to get the extraction done at least a week before my winter break ended. This place was extremely open and flexible with appointments (mainly due to the fact that they overbook, resulting in the hellish waiting times)-- however, it still got the job done and within very short notice.

About the actual service... The front desk staff was extremely nice, though in their circumstances, quite helpless in dealing with anxious patients (evidently due to the apparent tendency to overbook.) Also, the place was not dirty as described in the reviews-- in fact, in cleanliness it measured up to about just any other dentist/orthodontist office I have ever been to. Dr. Adachie was decently nice, laid-back, though not particularly in synchronization with his subordinates or informative (after all, he was in a rush). In the case of a surgery as popular as wisdom teeth and being a patient with no additional medical problems, the fact that the doctor was not informative did not really bother me, as all the information I need for post-op is simply online. I was put to sleep, but towards the end, have a faint memory of feeling my last wisdom teeth getting extracted. I was asleep though somewhat awake so it was not traumatizing, though definitely unexpected and subconsciously painful (if that makes sense). I was not very loopy when I came out and the high wore off very quickly. The prescriptions went through to my local pharmacy, and my mom had already retrieved them for me before I had gotten home. In terms of post-op information, they gave me a sheet of paper that gave minimal information (again A-OK since the information is online)-- however, one thing they did not tell me or my guardian of the day is whether the stitches are dissolvable or I will have to come back in to have them taken out. Crossing my fingers they are dissolvable, but I will call them back tomorrow to get the full story.

Bottom line: only go to this place if you can bring a positive attitude and set aside a large chunk of the day. In fact, I would recommend booking the appointment closer to the afternoon (12-2) so you can at least have an open first half of the day. Do not be scared off by the reviews-- if the extraction is necessary and you have the time, you might as well do it!

I went to these guys yesterday (Wednesday April 4th 2024) I never got the chance to have any work done, I was scheduled for a tooth extraction. I had a scheduled appointment for about 8:30 I arrived late at 9:45. They did not cancel the appointment they said that they could see me. I had to wait four and a half hours to be seen. About 2 minutes before I was going to reschedule they called me to the back. I wanted to let the dentist know that I had to wait for 4 hours, he made a joke about it and handled my situation with a very light-hearted attitude. When I try to explain to him that I didn't think that that was acceptable he blew up at me and told me that I should complain to someone above him. When I insisted that this was not a laughing matter you got angry at me and stormed out of the room. Needless to say I was not going to let this man extract my tooth for fear that he might decide to make this as painful as possible. The reception staff was not of much help because part of the reason why it took so long to be seen was because someone did not do my paperwork correctly. I will be filing a complaint with the proper authorities if you have to go to these. people please find an alternative

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! first starting with the manager, Mario he is a crook. every patient there leaves angry and unsatisfied. I went there last week expecting to see an oral surgeon, which they actually dont have. They have a periodontist, who they claim is a "surgeon". The staff there is extremly rude, the rooms are dirty. While I was in the waiting room (for 2 hours) I saw not one but two cockroaches. There are so many other options in the city. The office is dirty, and outdated. STAY AWAY!!!

The incompetence of scheduling is frightening. When you express what you need, and they blatantly ignore you in order to suit their own needs, is completely disrespectful. I was nearly brought to tears. And a consultation for a root canal has got to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. That must be the latest medical scam on the market. Luckily I was able to find another endodontist that did not have this make believe test for an extra (out of pocket) $75.

BEWARE! This place is deceptive. I was given their number by my insurance company. When I called they said they accepted my insurance. So I went in and they told me I had to take this pulp test to tell my whether I needed a root canal. After their tests (which they charged my $75), then they tell me they don't accept my insurance and they can do for so much $, etc. The sales routine. I'm so upset about this.

Not only that, but I've been to a few other Endos who charge way less than their inflated prices. Stay clear if you are wise. Try NYU Dental, they are wonderful and affordable, no sneaky tactics. I've noticed most of their ratings are one star only. AWFUL!

Long waits? Insurance doesn't cover? WAIT till you read this!

I was sent there for a root canal procedure. When i first got there i was shown a video about "CRACKED TOOTH SYNDROME". The video essentially excuses the endodontist of any responsibility for cracks or fractures in a tooth that the xrays from your dentist normally wouldn't reveal.

At the dentist's before the root canal there was some confusion about where the pain was coming from. Was it tooth #30 or #31? I was of no help determining where the pain was coming from so xrays were done of both. My dentist informed me that "calcification" of the usually darker roots indicated that both teeth needed a root canal. It seemed practical to prepare both teeth for a root canal at the same time. I THINK the dentist mentioned a crack that he "filled" in tooth #31. Temporary crowns were made for both teeth and i contracted to pay out of pocket for 2 expensive Zirconium crowns that are placed after the root canal(s).

At Dental Specialty Associates i was informed they only do one root canal procedure at a time and the Endodontist, Dr. Foroughi told me to have tooth #30 "filled". Healing from the root canal procedure on tooth #31 was unusually long and not at all like a root canal 15 years earlier on the opposite side.

Back at the dentist after the root canal on tooth #31 he was surprised i only had one root canal procedure done. Looking at the xrays again together (i have to admit they both "looked" the same) he told me he already bored out too much of tooth #30 to just fill it--the tooth now needed the permanent crown which was waiting to be installed. He placed the permanent crown on tooth #31.

Back at the endodontist, and after a long wait to my surprise a heavily Eastern European-accented dental assistant met with me to tell me i did indeed need a root canal on tooth #30. I was pretty angry that a dental assistant was telling me i needed a root canal after the endodontist told me to get it filled. I left and unfortunately walked around with a permanent and temporary crown on for way too long.

I decided to have the permanent crown placed on tooth #30 without the root canal procedure. When i arrived at the dentist i was informed my dentist had retired and moved out of the country but another dentist who had taken up his practice would be seeing me.

The dental assistant assuming i had had the root canal was removing the temporary crown from tooth #30. When i winced from pain, she was surprised i didn't have the root canal. I met the new dentist and they informed me that the referral for a root canal carries a lot of weight and that it is not my decision to go ahead and have the permanent crown placed.

Finally the office manager performed a CT scan of the area where one of the roots of tooth #31 was revealed to be broken off. They phoned their oral surgeon who confirmed that the $780.00 root canal and $1200.00 permanent Zirconium crown had to be pulled and a post following a bone graph and an artificial tooth needed to be placed. Any wonder i'm still walking around with a temporary crown on tooth #30?

Imagine if Dental Specialty Associates (who only does endodontics and oral surgery) had a CT scanner instead of that dumb video this problem could have been properly diagnosed from the beginning.

I'm told that the cost of a CT scanner is quite exorbitant. Hopefully after their license to operate is reviewed following my complaint to the NY Department of State, Division of Licensing Services, they'll regret operating without one.

Avoid this office! My dentist sent me there for a root canal. On my first visit they told me that all I had to pay was $75 co-pay for a sensitivity I test and my insurance will pay the rest. So I paid the $75 dollars. However on my next visit they told me that I had to pay an additional $350 for a procedure not covered by my insurance, and I will have to return again before I get the root canal. I found this method of dealing with patients very deceptive and I told them that. Why did they not tell me this from the beginning, instead of telling me upfront that all I had to pay was $75?

I wasn't the only one that was deceived. There were other patients there complaining about the deception of that office with their payment. I refused to receive any service from this Dental office. I lost the $75 I paid initially for consulting fee, but I refused to see the dentist for the second visit when they told me I had to pay more money. I was afraid that on my third visit they will charge me even more!. Be Aware and always check reviews! If I had checked the reviews of this office before visiting I would have still had my $75 in my pocket. lol

That's WHY WE SHOULD CONSIDER REVIEWS FIRST:
All the ratings were 1star and here goes another one:
      10/25/21
I paid the $75 fee, waited for more than 1hour, and in the end, I was told, sorry we recently decided not to take your insurance.

Meanwhile, the desk (the first thing I did, asked and make sure that my insurance is accepted) told me yes, we do! I waisted 2h for a total disappointment.
When I asked the office/ Billing manager why you didn't let me know since the beginning that My insurance wasn't accepted he tells me: you were here for an evaluation ...
Sir, I came with a referral, I know 99% what I need, what are you going to evaluate when you will not assist me ...

Staff/girls helping with X-rays was nice but overall...
I do not recommend this place!

I have waited 32 mins 41 seconds on phone trying to make an appointment. I spoke to a person who told me to hold, and I heard some noises from her side once few mins, which mean she left the phone on her desk. I got cut off at 32 mins 41 secs, obviously by HAND.
