The food here is AMAZING! This is the third Ethiopian restaurant I've been to, and is by far the best. Not only is the food great, but the portions are huge and the price is right.
AMBIANCE- This restaurant is connected to a bar. There is a good amount of seating on the restaurant side but it's still an intimate space. We visited on Sunday afternoon and were one of four parties.
FOOD- It was all made with love. If you are starving I suggest you get an appetizer like samosas to hold you over because entrees are going to take a while (not sure if just the veggie platters alone take as long). Since the portions are big each platter can feed up to 2-3 people.
We ordered the Derek beef tibs with the veggi 7 platter and the Awaze lamb tibs with tikel gomen (cabbage) and salad. Each dish comes with injera on the side. I don't usually like a lot of injera because I find it to be too sour but their's is perfect! I ate more injera in the restaurant than my actual dish.
The beef tibs were fried perfectly and tender (but not chewy or tough). The veggies we were given: lentils, yellow split peas*, 2 salads*, cabbage*, collard greens, red lentils & potatoes. Not exactly the veggi 7 but we weren't complain. Each meat dish comes with 2 veggie sides but since my cousin and her boyfriend were sharing, the waitress suggested adding the veggie platter which was a great idea. I definitely dabbled on their platter and would suggest everything I put a star by as a side. The salad is a fresh cut tomato salad that is very refreshing.
The awaze, my goodness, was so freaking good! Paired with that salad?! Perfection. I love saucy food so this was just right for me. It had a kick to it which made it that more appetizing. The lamb was cooked perfectly and went well with my chosen sides.
The flavor all around was phenomenal for both platters.
I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Baltimore.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 7156065596Dec 11, 2020
I am a Ethiopian food addict. I was excited to try this place out. I called and placed an order over the phone and seemed pretty easy, and the lady seemed rushed but friendly.
Fast forward to making it to the resturant to pick up my food. Walked in and went to the bar to get assistance. The lady told me it should be right up. Picked up my food and instead of opening it in the restaurant I walk out and do so.....just to see they didn't follow my directions. I am a lover for bread that is NOT wet so I always ask for my injera to be placed by itself so the food doesn't make it wet. Then fast forward to making it home and trying the food. There is a very strange aftertaste from the food and the injera. I literally stopped eating the injera and started using a spoon to finish my meal. I normally ask for gluten free injera but they told me they didn't have any....the reason o do this is because some places use more grains to supplement the injera which leads to the after taste and you feeling very heavy after. I believe for the food there must have been some type of oil used because it was not how I am use to experiencing at all.
Love the sweet people but the food is just not for me.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Mar 25, 2019
Make sure you are entering the right location when you try to come here via rideshare service.
We entered the exact name of the restaurant and it took us to their old location. Luckily, it wasn't too far of a walk from their new location.
Ebenezer uses great seasonings and flavors. We came here on Friday night and it was pretty quiet. We were one of 3 other groups.
We ordered the gored gored and the derek tibs with lamb. I've never had gored gored before and I was amazed at how the butter tastes with the meat braised in. This dish comes with the meat pretty rare, but cooked pretty well. The derek tibs were super flavorful. This dish almost reminded me a bit of a jerky--it's on the well done side, nevertheless, it has great flavor and it's delicious. As for the injera, I'll be honest, I've had better at other places, this one falls apart a little easily with a little moisture and doesn't contain as much flavor, but nevertheless, it's still a great base to sop up all the deliciousness of the meatsHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 12, 2018
So so excited to review this place. If you're new to Ethiopian or you're looking to try a new type of cuisine, this place will not disappoint!!!
They recently moved to closer to me, needless to say I'll be frequenting this place much more often. Their takeout portions are just as big as their in house portions. So if you don't want to eat in, don't be afraid to order it to go or delivery.
In terms of what to order, we tried many different dishes. I would recommend bringing friends and ordering different things from the menu (try the lamb and the vegetarian platter) so that you can share and try everything!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Lavanya W.Round Rock, TX872071050Feb 26, 2020
We were a party of 5 - 4 adults and 1 toddler. There was one other family of 4 in the restaurant. When we came in, we were acknowledged right away. But the swiftness of service stopped there. We waited 20 minutes to get waters and our drinks. The food also took extremely long. One of us had to go remind the man in charge (probably the owner) that we still needed something and were waiting. He was a nice guy just not good with restaurant service.
We got samosas and various entrees. The samosa was oozing oil and not good at all. I couldn't finish mine. I got a veggie plate with injera and 5 entrees. That was good. The injera wasn't super fresh but tasty nonetheless.
So after almost 2 hours at this place, we were done with our meal. And then we ask for the check, he asks us cash or card and as soon as we say card, he claims his credit card machine is down and it will take 20 minutes to run our card. Luckily we were able to pool up cash and got out of there as soon as we could.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Henal M.Baltimore, MD217119492Sep 22, 2019
This was my first time at an Ethiopian restaurant and here is my input on Ethiopian cuisine and this restaurant in general:
1) I'm indian and the veggie options are very similar to Indian cuisine
2) the flavor of the lentils and veggies in the veggie platter 7 was phenomenal! It was so flavorful, spicy, and just delicious!
3) also, veggie 7 platter was definitely enough for me and my husband (both have average appetites)
4) the service at this restaurant is very mediocre, borderline bad. They took so long to even get us a glass of water, much less our food.
5) the ambiance is eh...so not the best place for a first date or romantic night out
Despite the downfalls, I will most definitely come back because the food was just delicious. And it makes me want to try some of their other veggie options as well.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 15, 2019
We had a great late evening feast at Ebenezer Ethiopian. We were greeted and seated shortly after arrival. The host/ waiter was friendly and helpful, showing us pictures of different dishes on his phone. We ordered a 7 veg, fried fish and a ground meat dish with homemade cottage cheese. We chatted and waited and our dishes came out after about half an hour. Everything was hot and fresh and the extra injera was a nice touch. The veggies were all distinct and packed with flavor though a little light on the cabbage, which is one of my favorites. We tried an Ethiopian beer which was decent and the waiter was always happy to come by and get us whatever we needed. Overall an enjoyable Ethiopian dining experience.

I've had a lot of platters in my day, but nothing comes close to piling up on delicious lentils, veggies, and meat options yourself onto perfectly sour and soft injera at the strike of noon! It was lovely to accidently find this lunch special, but I'm so glad I did. A place not too far away was closed, so this was the next closest option and it was exactly what I've always wanted to try. The waitress was warm and kind, the space was large and clean, and the food was well seasoned and authentic to what I've tried in the past all over the country. Baltimore has the best Ethiopian food and I will be back! They accept cards and service was quick for lunch time during the week.

5 stars for food, price and portions, 3 for service.
Went there on a Saturday night for dinner on the late side (8 pm). There was only one guy working there it appeared, but there also weren't very many people there. Took forever to get water, take our order, and for our food to arrive. We ordered the lamb and beef combo platter with the vegetable platter. He looked concerned and said it was way too much food for 3 people. We said we like veggies though, so he said he'd add the veggies we like (lentils, cabbage and kale).
When the food came, he was right--it was a lot of food!! Such a nice spread with each dish a different taste. Really delicious and such a deal.
So if you don't mind waiting awhile but want an Ethiopian feast, highly recommend.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kayla Z.Annapolis, MD123Jan 29, 2020
I find it really hard to believe that all these 5 star reviews on here are valid. We had the most bizarre experience ever. We arrive on a Tuesday night, besides us there are two others sitting at the bar. The "bartender" brought over menus, and after studying it a bit we wanted to start off with the samosa app. He informs us that he doesn't have samosas, then goes on to say they "get the food delivered"... WHAT?! This leads me to believe the food isn't cooked in house. Huge red flag.
At this point we've been at the bar for 15 minutes. Still no drinks and dude hasn't even asked if we want a drink.
No samosas, he says they only have one of the five appetizers on the menu so we order that. I go to order my dinner, a chicken dish, and he informs me they don't have chicken either. Here's the kicker, he says they only have dish #5. So out of the 20 menu items they listed, we could pick from one app and one entree. I ordered a vodka soda and my boyfriend ordered a beer. He brought the wrong beer and my vodka soda was just a Collins glass of vodka.
The app came out cold and sad. At this point I didn't trust anything this place had to offer so we paid and left once the app came out. Beginning to end it was the weirdest restaurant we have ever been to. DO NOT EAT HERE.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
