The turkey is almost magical. Tender, moist and seasoned so well. The brisket (I was told this is what needed to be ordered in Texas with some shade thrown at California) and it was delicious. Nice smoke ring and we'll seasoned bark. Brisket was buttery but not so tender it fell apart, which made for an amazing chew. The pork ribs were tender but some parts are a bit dry and not as well seasoned as the other meats. When I was given the bbq sauce, it boosted the pork ribs in flavor and moisture.
I would definitely come back if I was in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tony F.Houston, TX52Jan 20, 2024

I recently had a great dining experience at El Monte BBQ in San Antonio. I ordered the 3IB combo plate, which included brisket, sausages, and ribs, with a side of corn cheese and bread. Everything on the plate was delicious and expertly cooked, with the meats being perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sides were also top-notch, with the corn cheese being creamy and cheesy, and the bread fresh and fluffy. The atmosphere of the restaurant was casual and laid-back, with friendly staff and efficient service. Overall, I would highly recommend El Monte BBQ to anyone looking for some delicious barbecue in San Antonio.

This place does not disappoint and is the best BBQ joint in San Antonio that we have had so far! Revisited after 6 months, and it still rocks. Love the pulled pork and marbled brisket and the pan de campo is yum!
Thank you for another enjoyable experience!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1Apr 25, 2022Previous reviewHidden tiny local BBQ gem. We arrived right when it opened for dinner. This restaurant is so small, but it has so much to offer! Super casual, order at counter.
We went for the two meat combo- pulled pork, lean brisket ( they offer marbled as well), came with two sides ( chose charro beans and potato salad) , and your choice of bread. They offer pan de campo, tortillas, and white or wheat bread. We chose their home made pan de campo- round, soft, buttery goodness! Slightly thicker than a tortilla. The lean brisket was fabulous, I may mix it up next time and get the marbled as well. Yummy smoky pulled pork and both sides were deelish. Can't go wrong. They offer one BBQ sauce, and when we arrived it was just freshly made ...nice and warm. They also offer a complimentary condiment bar with pickled carrots/jalapeños and onions. I absolutely loved the pickled jalapeños!
We were happily stuffed lol . The dessert menu looked tempting with the variety of pies on the menu, but unfortunately we had no more space in our tummies. Next time!
We sat indoors, they also have plenty of seating outside next to the restaurant, but it was too windy to sit outside that day.
Great BBQ and reasonable prices! Till next time, we'll be back! - C. P.San Antonio, TX03328Dec 17, 2023
This small little gem had amazing barbecue and sides! The brisket was moist and delicious, so was the sausage. The sides were homemade, full of flavor, and so good. Their tortillas are homemade. There is a little seating inside, but lots of seating outside. The people are friendly. We will definitely be back.

Straight to the point, I won't come here again. Worst brisket I've ever had. Ribs and sides were good. If you compare these prices to 2M, Pinkerton's, South, Reese Bros, this place is not worth the visit. I'd only come here if I lived near by and didn't have a car.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jul 16, 2023
This has to be the best barbacoa and fresh homemade corn tortillas I've ever had, the meat had the perfect smoked flavor, not greasy at all, I regret only ordering 1/2 lb, lol, but I did see that they made pan de campo (IYKYK) so I'll have to go back to try the pan that brought back childhood memories, and the brisket and Turkey breast as well, the staff was so friendly, I enjoyed talking to them, they do have a small area to eat there (indoors)...can't wait to try the other foods, good luck to you

We've been here several times and have never been disappointed. The food is amazing. The service is friendly. We've tried everything on the menu, except the sausage, and it is all very good. The brisket is definitely my favorite. Do yourself a favor and give El Monte BBQ a chance.

I came here because I had heard great things. I want to say that the staff was nice and the cream corn was excellent so it was to my surprise that the food overall was simply ok. The ambience was intimate if not a little cluttered and dirty. Now I'm going to say something that will make most people gasp. If you go to QT and order a barbecue sandwich on Texas toast it's a hundred times better than what I had. I'm not saying get one of the sandwiches under the heat lamp but order one at the kiosk so it's fresh and you might just be surprised by the quality.

Blueberry cornbread we didn't get to. But, the 6oz of fork slice brisket, south cowboy beans, specialty pan de campo, and my mandatory slice of bbq turkey (just to try it out) finished off my appetite. And when Jaime broke out a thick wedge of buttered, Pioneer corn bread, I got it down with the last of the bean juice. Oh my, my. Tender, juicy, the good stuff... home town glory with a checkered tablecloth.
Mouthwatering. Fulfilling. Worth the journey.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0
