I was very happy to discover (thanks Tom P.) that Hella Gyro was reborn as Ella's Gyro. I rushed over there right after work and ordered the gyro plate. Also, I was happy that I could use Apple Pay for payment.
I placed my order with a gentleman that assured me that this place is from the Hella linage.
I received my food and sped home. Once home I opened up the container and dove in face first. The gyro meat was plentiful and the I love the tzatziki. I love the new seasoned fries. The container steamed my fries, but they were tasty nonetheless. Also, I love the sports peppers. I had so much food, I couldn't eat it all.
Thanks for reopening!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alexander T.West Rogers Park, Chicago, IL362523Jun 29, 2019
Closed during business hours really? I placed my order on Beyond Menu to be picked up at 4:15pm and when I arrived it was closed. I mean really? You're just losing business there or are they closed permanently again? What's the deal? Food is good, but being closed is a no no.

Can't comment on the food because it was never delivered. Beware of this place! (Yes, it was this place! I'm not an idiot!)

I’m sorry we never got an order from you. Must be mistaken our place for somewhere else...what website did you order from? We never received an order from you.

Gyros plate was ok. Fries were not so great. They seem a little behind in orders. They charged a bag fee! WTF. If you read the law, RESTAURANTS are not supposed to charge bag fees. Please check on that.

ordered for delivery and they were fast and followed my instructions perfectly (which surprisingly is not common). the meal I had (grilled chicken with pita) was great and the friessss the FRIESSS wooof they were perfect. Hot and crunchy outside with a fluffy inside. dreaming about them still. definitely will be ordering again!

Greeks here, so maybe we're a little harder to please than others, but to us this place is average. The menu, with some Greek favorites, still leans heavily towards items better categorized as "Chicago-style fast food" such as hot dogs, hamburgers, Polish, Italian beef, and even tacos. But, no egg rolls.
Still missing "Gyros on the Spit"s homemade gyros, we ordered the gyros platter, and got a good helping of standard Kronos meat, tomatoes, onions, and a rice and potato melange. Filling but not necessarily exciting.
Ellas is a good place to go if you have a group that wants a wide selection, but if you don't mind traveling, and want more 'Greek specialties' try Cross Rhodes, near Main & Chicago in Evanston.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - tom p.Chicago, IL58411May 9, 2019
Was happy to hear that Hellas Gyros was resurrected as Ella's Gyros ! And even closer to my home! I will say that I went on their second day so things seemed hectic or not as smooth as they were on Bryan Mawr. And sadly the place is hardly big enough to turnaround in. There are three tables but it's so tight you're better off getting To go. I ordered the gyros combo which comes with fries and a can of pop. The gyros was served with a generous amount of meat. I asked for additional sauce on the side which was a very good tzatsiki sauce. I will say that the prep work on the onions and tomatoes could be better. The onions were thickly sliced and not one bit of the onion was wasted. They don't clean the onions well and leave the tough inner layer still on. The tomatoes were coarsely sliced and pretty big. I'm not sure what brand of pita bread they're using but a more authentic brand would be better, these tasted like they came from Jewel. As far as the fries....ask for them to be cooked well done. When I got home which is only two blocks..they were soggy and limp. Again this was my first visit and their second day of being open. My review..continues. I went back two weeks later and got the same thing. This time I asked for well done fries..and they were perfect. Again generous offering of meat but they still haven't mastered the art of of onion and tomato slicing. On the whole the food is excellent and highly recommend even tho it sounds like I'm bashing them.

The sign out front said "open" and the online information says open till midnight - when I arrived at 10:20 the door was locked and I was waved away by the people inside. From the dirty look for the place it wouldn't have been worth it either. Plenty of other places around....

Hi I apologize about that day but that day we had issues with our phone/fax system so we shut down early and I addressed the “waving” customers away to the cleaning crew that was there that night. As for the open sign being left on open and not closed that was a mistake but again sorry for that experience you had. Hope you come back and visit.
