I've not had a problem with the gym since I've been a member last summer. I'm a pretty low-maintenance client, though. I don't attend any of the classes but they offer a variety of different types at scheduled times that you can access online. I also have a family plan so I can bring a guest with me whenever I work-out.

I usually come after work in the evenings and it's pretty busy. I rarely have trouble finding another machine that I can use while I'm waiting for another, though. The locker rooms are decent. I find that some of the locker doors don't work perfectly and I have to find one that does so I can keep my things safe. The area is a little cramped and sometimes smells really bad. I do think that the staff should be cleaning and disinfecting the lockers at least hourly but I have a feeling that they don't.

I've been a member for two years and I'm still waiting for them to make good on the promises they made when I signed up. When I signed up in May 2022 I was told that they would go back to being open 24 hours, and that they would offer more classes very soon.

This gym is really geared towards folks who like to lift weights. If you are into exercise classes, you are better off at 24 hour fitness or getting a ClassPass. The Orange program that they offer at Energy is an extra fee for folks who are more interested in classes, and on top of that you have to buy an expensive heart rate monitor to participate in two out of the four exercise classes that they offer. So really they charge you once for the gym and twice for the classes.

I've been told that this place used to be a really good gym pre-covid, but it's clearly struggling.

This place is NASTY!!.. In numerous occasions I have seen guys leave the bathroom stall not wash their hands and go out and use the equipment.
A few weeks ago a gentleman had no shame and was sticking his hands down the crack of his butt and pulling out his underwear from the crack of his butt numerous times and then using the equipment.
The final straw was a few evenings ago I canceled my membership and walked out because there is a woman in there who never wipes down the machines after leaving a bunch of sweat on them.. I wanted to use a particular machine she just got off and had jumped onto another one I asked her nicely if she was done using the machine she stated yes and then I asked if she was going to wipe all of the sweat off of the leg machine.. there was tons of sweat on the backrest and tons of sweat from her butt on the seat.. she replied with "You can clean it up yourself if you want it clean"". At this point I go to the front counter to explain what just happened and the girl working the front desk shrugged her shoulders and said there's nothing she can do about that it's not the rules to have people clean up the sweat off of the equipment when they're done using it.
I got ringworm about a month and a half ago and I have a strong suspicion that I got it from this location.

Energy Health Clubs is the gym I go to when visiting family in CA for the holidays.

It is a decent size, with plenty of equipment and machines. They have two squat racks plus a smith machine and one bench press, but plenty of cardio and other weight machines. They have a large free weights section. People seem to do a decent job of wiping things down and putting things away.

A highlight of this gym is their pool, hot tub, and saunas. It's really nice to have a swim/soak option after a workout. However, I think they could clean the areas better and complete some deferred maintenance (the roof leaks in rain, as evidenced by water stains... and I saw a bandaid sit on the ground of the hot tub shower for days).

I have not attended any of their exercise classes, though I know my mom likes to. Recently they've started requiring a heart rate monitor (like Orange Theory) which I think is a shame. People are paying to work out, let them work out how they'd like to.

One of my biggest suggestions is for the gym to add a good short term payment option. The have a 7 day free pass (but only for folks who recently moved to the area), a 24-hour pass for $15, or a two-month holiday special. I wish they offered a two-week membership or a punch card.

      Updated review

I have never been 86'd from a bar but now have from a gym. Let me tell you why. I left 2 separate messages at the front desk on October 12th and again on the 14th. In the sauna under the bench someone had dropped a sandwich baggie. That happens. On the 11th is when I first saw it. Figured it had just happened and would get cleaned up. Nope next day still there. I tell the desk on my way out. They said it will be noted. 2 days later it is still there. Again I tell whoever is at the front desk. The next day it is still there. I finally pull it out and put it in the garbage. There was something black and fuzzy in the bag! So I finally made a comment either on Facebook or here and they 86'd me! Without a discussion of any kind. Good luck going there. The patrons are wonderful and the trainers are too!

I had hoped my review a while back when I lowered my rating would spark a discussion with the management to improve the quality of sanitation. Not a question from them just cancelled. So I would think professionally a discussion would have ensued to correct the issues.
Just a little about me. Daily swimmer and retired VP in the vendor side of the wine industry.

I used to really love this gym, I still go to this gym, but honestly the current state of the gym is making me consider leaving. I pay over $400 a year to go here, just like many other members, and some even pay more per month than I do, yet they can't fix their equipment.

There are 12 treadmills on the bottom floor in the cardio area, 6 of them don't work. Either they don't turn on completely, or they're stuck in an elevated position and will not return to baseline. There are also 3 treadmills upstairs I believe, but 2 of them don't work. Two of the treadmills have had notices on them saying they don't work since January.

There are also ellipticals that do not turn on, and some won't allow you to change the resistance, elevation, or "workout" pre-programmed on the machine.

In the weight training area there are cable machines that get stuck when you're mid rep, and you'll have to restart the rep before you can pull the cable any further.

The men's locker room grows black mold on the ceiling. My girlfriend told me about the ceiling of the women's locker room having multiple areas where the paint is coming down from the ceiling where water leaked in from the rain last winter. This still hasn't been fixed from LAST winter.

I know this is a long review but honestly you're just not getting what you pay for with all the non-operative, and malfunctioning equipment. One could also argue the mold in the men's locker room and the mold in the ceiling from the women's locker room is harmful to your health.

Consider this before you sign up, it's been a year or more for many of these issues.

Please start repairing your gym so your members that pay to come to your gym can comfortably and safely workout here.

Normally love this place, however at the owner's direction they do not enforce the local mask mandate. I saw the manager talking to someone without a mask at the front desk for over 5 minutes. Nothing done or said. The same people come in every day and blatantly not wear a mask, but nothing is done.

They say they clean the gym nightly, but the same dirty piles are in the same corners for MONTHS. So I'm not sure where the "cleaning" is occurring.

The poor employees try their best, but the members here seemingly do not give a single F about them. I feel for them.

As I write this there are 14 people in the gym and 7 of them have their masks around their chin. And yes, they've been talked to

Two employees were not wearing masks indoors today. They could be the best gym in the world but I will not return if I don't see masks on employees in the next couple of weeks.
I wanted to say something but just didn't feel like getting into the good cop bad cop situation. And I don't feel I should have to. I have a six-month-old at home. Please do your best to protect all of us.

This gym has all the amenities for half the price of other gyms. I love this place! if they just had this one ab machine that you slide on your knees with and if their stair masters weren't always broken down... it would be perfect.

This gym is the bomb!! It has everything one needs in a reasonably priced format. The staff are all polite and turnover is very low. One of the best staff members is Riley who really takes her job of both welcoming hospitality and attention to the cleaning tasks seriously. Jamie and Riley always greet me by name. The pool has 5 lanes indoors so getting laps in is easy. Highly recommended

      Lots of cardio options.
