Service is always great: attentive & friendly.
The restaurant has a relaxed/chill vibe.
Food: Everything I've ordered is delicious but my absolute favorite is their brisket and mac n'cheese. Their barbecue sauces are all wonderful. We've had them cater for our parties and people always ask, "Who made the food??" because it's delicious. I highly recommend this place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 46315135Feb 3, 2024Updated review
2/2/24 - Sorry to say that my stellar reviews of my past visits have now been cancelled!!! When I walked in I was quickly greeted by a cashier/server. She didn't waste any time by telling me that they had sold out of the tri-tip. I guess she could tell by the look on my face that is what I came for and YES it was!! I asked for a menu anyway to see what else I could order and was hoping that they have added some more items, but same menu. So, since I have never tried their brisket I ordered a brisket sandwich with onion rings and a soda. You pay when you order and it came up to $24.+. There were two customers seated and one at the bar so it was a very quiet restaurant.
My meal came very quick and I couldn't wait to bite into my sandwich. I did, and it was tasty but I needed more sauce so I grabbed two from the table next to me, one sweet & tangy the other Chipotle. I opened my sandwich to add the sauce and at first it looked good, but something told me to look at it again and when picked up the other half of the first piece I ate it was nothing but fat on the other end. I picked up the other two slices and more of the same. I could have screamed, it was all fat, then I picked up the second half and it was all fat, nothing was trimmed off.
I should have said something when the waiter asked me if everything was okay, I didn't!!! I was quietly furious and didn't want to cause a scene or let other customers who just sat down within hearing distance know of my dissatisfaction!!! I drank the little bit of soda I had and left. I was so disappointed I just sat in my car for a few minutes and I had completely lost my appetite, I wasn't going home, so I needed to eat something but I just couldn't, appetite ruined for the evening!!! I am glad I put something in my stomach at 10:30a, or I would've eaten all day!!!! Now it's either almost five or a little after.
It has been a while since I have been here, the theater was still across the street, because I have been busy with my grandchildren. I could bring my grandson here and he would be happy, but my granddaughter is very picky and she wouldn't eat. Now, I don't know when I will feel like visiting again. Sad!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Danielle
Wow!!!! Now this is a awesome review!!!! We truly appreciate you taking your time to write this!!!! We look forward to serving you again!!! Also thank you for mentioning Dinners, Drive-in & Dives! It is a goal of mine to be on the show! I have a vision board in our kitchen and that is all over it!
Thank you againMay 20, 2023Previous reviewI hope my five-star stellar rating of this place never changes; I have been here about four or five times now, and every experience even the two times I dined in were great!!!
My brother is now a resident of Stockton, but even before that he was down here often. So the other day he was talking and asked me about the places I frequent or go to sometimes. We started talking about barbecue and I mentioned Fat City. A couple of months roll by and now it's time for the playoffs for basketball. He calls me and asked me to pick up some sandwiches and for some reason I went on the website only to find out that you are closed on Mondays. I called him back to give him the bad news and he says where else can we go, then he says surprise me. So I took care of that!!
This week comes and I will visit with him on Friday, but I won't say anything. I come in and quickly notice that they have customers who are dining-in and some were seated at the bar getting their beers on & ordering food. I slowly glance over the menu and try to decide if I want tri-tip or brisket. I want tri-tip which is my favorite. I order his with onion rings and mines with potato salad. My only gripe about this amazing place is they close at 6:00p.m.
I reach his place and was surprised that his wife was there, she told me she was going to San Francisco for the weekend. Well, now he will have to share his sandwich and because they were out & about they stopped and got an early dinner and were stuffed so I ate alone. But before going home they both had an onion ring in their mouths.
As usual, every bite of my food was delicious!!!! I paired mines with fresh and creamy potato salad and I was not sure about what kind of barbecue sauce he would like, so the cashier gave me a variety to take with me. My sandwich with the spicy sauce was a hit for me. It made every bite delectable, I could chew every piece of meat, no fat or big lumps of meat that was undesirable. If I had a lot of family down here, I guarantee they would all come to Fat City. I am from San Francisco and I still have relatives there and most live across the bay as well as my friends. San Franciscans know good food and will brag about where they dined!!!!
My service was good from when I came in until I left. You could hear chatter coming from different areas of the restaurant, but not loud and they had the TV's on low for customer enjoyment. They have plenty staff on hand to help and to answer any questions you might have, they are very friendly!! My order was $37.02.
I am sure my brother enjoyed part of his meal, I haven't heard from him yet. I guarantee he will find this place very soon and I know I will be back!!Aug 5, 2021Previous review8/4/21 - Yesterday was my fourth visit to this restaurant. This time because I usually go earlier in the day, I got to see more customers and customer service. People were coming in from the front & back, single or with a friend or family member. Some purchased beers with their meals.
I decided since this was my dinner & like I said fourth time, that I should try something different. This time I got the two meat platter: Tri-tip (my fave), and brisket. I paired with onion rings and potato salad & of course a Pepsi. Everything, I mean everything was delicious!!! I left their stuffed!!!
I could not eat it all, so I brought the rest home for lunch for the next day.
As usual the place was clean and they have great customer service!! They come around quite often to make sure everything is good!!!Apr 28, 2021Previous review4/28/21 - I have to give them 5 -stars again, my tri-tip sandwich & potato salad was consistent with my first visit more than a year ago!!! When I came here with my boyfriend it was October of 2020, and they had just lifted the order for restaurants and we were able to sit in the restaurant and eat!!! Wow!! What a joy that was, even though it felt very strange & different.
Today, I am by myself, I lost my boyfriend a week ago. So I am also reminded of that time and one of the reasons I wanted to come here. Now, it's taking time to plan his funeral.
My food was good!! The tri-tip was fresh and tender, no chewy fat at all and that's what I like. I hate to bite into a sandwich where my meat is chewy fat or a chunk of fat; it turns me off quick, and I usually don't want it anymore!!
The waitresses come around often to make sure your food is good and that everything is alright!!! That lets me know they want your business. I have told some friends about the business and I will tell my brother who is a new resident of Stockton about this place because he loves barbecue!!!
My late lunch was $18.12. Some would say that's an expensive lunch, and I would agree, but I am paying for quality. I could have a had a tri-tip sandwich from another drive-thru type place, but it would have only been about $7.50 difference and I would not have gotten a drink and would not have enjoyed my meal as much!!!
Plenty customers were streaming in to dine -in or for take out. That's a good sign!!
Thank you Fat City!!! I will be back!!!Oct 6, 2020Previous reviewOn last Thursday, my boyfriend and I were out running errands. I was getting hungry and since we were in Stockton's "Miracle Mile", I thought we should go ahead and try Fat City!!!
Well, I am so glad I did!! The hospitality of the staff was amazing!!! They were very helpful in letting us know what options were good. My boyfriend ordered a cheeseburger & fries and I ordered the tri-tip sandwich and it was juicy and tender. I also partnered my tri-tip with potato salad which was very, very fresh!! Both of us enjoyed our lunch, we were too full to indulge in dessert which is free!!! They offer ice cream --chocolate, vanilla and a swirl!!
I am kind of upset with myself for always saying that "Stockton does not have any good bbq", when this place has been around for three years.
I found out that they serve brisket on Friday & Saturday's, so I definitely will be back to try. But my favorite is tri-tip!!
Our pleasant experience was $38.00+, but was well worth it!! I forgot to mention, we sat inside!!! Gov. Newsom has lifted some of our Coronavirus restrictions, so restaurants can have 25% inside patrons. Fat City also has outside seating in the front & back. The restaurant was very clean and neat!!!
So sorry that I did not take pictures to share with you. I am going to write Mr. Guy Fieri because I know first-hand that Fat City Brews & Barbecue deserves an honorable mention on his tv show "Dinners, Drive-in & Dives" aka "Triple D". - Cj C.St. Francis, Daly City, CA02538Apr 18, 2024
I ordered the brisket and the ribs. With a side of French fries, onion rings, and Mac n cheese.
The meat here was VERY tender and VERY juicy. I really liked the texture. Unfortunately, the flavor was non existent without sauce. I felt as though I had to drown the brisket and the ribs in it, in order to have some flavor.
The French fries and the onion rings were good, classic.
The Mac n cheese unfortunately was also very plain and didn't really taste like much. It didn't have the creamy, rich, and cheesy taste that I usually expect when getting Mac n cheese.
Service: Was great. The two ladies who helped us were very kind and helpful.
Ambiance: Was fine, but a crackhead walked in.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 10, 2024
Great place for some bbq food! Had the fat city spud with brisket and oh man the meat was so tenderrrr. I recommend it. Didn't finish the potato it was in since it's humongous but if you're feeling it and hungry this is all you need to go into a food coma lol.
The tremor beer lager is a great pair. I'm a big lager fan so I recommend it.
Great seating for big groups or small groups, retro throwback music was spot on when I went in. Plenty of parking in the back. Service is friendly and nothing to complain about. Food came out fast. I'd come back.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

WE appreciate you Rockie and how you are always here supporting ALL local businesses... That Fat City Spud is no joke... So satisfying.....
Jan 8, 2021Previous reviewAlways love the food here. It is consistently GOOD!!! keeps us coming back.
As a family we are always happy to support the local places but during this unprecedented time of uncertainty and with all the additional restrictions placed on dinning establishments we feel it's crucial to support our local spots more than ever, as their survival depends on it as does the jobs of their employees.
We hope everyone has an opportunity to enjoy the delicious food at Fat City Brew & Bbq. You will not be disappointed. The food is plentiful and oh soooo tasty. Do yourself a favor. Take the night off from cooking and treat yourself to some good ol Californian BBQ!!! Oh and don't forget the Frog Sauce!!! - Aug 16, 2023
Working near this place so I had to try it out and I'm glad I did!
Tri-Tip is my favorite food so if it's in the menu im getting it! I ordered the 1 meat plate with 2 sides. I was given a generous portion of tender tri tip that was perfectly pink in the center and seasoned greatly. The Mac and cheese was good in a way I don't think I've ever had before. The cheese was so gooey and almost had like a queso taste to it that made it stand out and very good. The onion rings were nice and golden crispy. I love when you have to actually bite into an onion ring. Noting is worse than taking a bite and the whole onion string out. These were very good. The only thing I didn't really like were the sauces. They were all on the sweeter side and I'm someone who likes spice but other than that it was great!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 6232522Jun 2, 2023
Out of town and a friend wanted to try a new bbq place. We wound up here at fat city brew & bbq. All three of us got two meat plates, a mixed drink and a appetizer to split. The total bill plus tip came out to $168, which honestly is a little pricey.
For my plate I got the tri tip, brisket, Mac & cheese and potato salad. The best thing was the brisket, the tri tip was alright but just like the appetizers a little bland. I would still try this place again whenever in town but next time to help cut down on the cost, I think I will get a sandwich as I noticed a lot more customers opted for sandwiches instead. The mixed drinks were pretty good and priced fine, but just a little heavy on the ice.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
