I would say Fehrenbacher's artisan sausage is a hole-in-a-wall restaurant/store in Gainesville! $$ but fresh and tasty!
I walked in and I noticed that you can order an array of meats and entrees (e.g. sandwiches, salads, etc). The dishes that you can order are listed right when you enter on the left side and these dishes typically change daily.
I ended up getting the smoked salmon everything bagel which included horse radish mustard, radish, dill, trout poe, arugula, capers, and pickled egg ($12). The bagel was good however, it was there was some kind of sour kick to it. I believe it was the capers and my taste palate isn't use it. Other than that, it was a decent bagel. My friends and I also order mimosas - 1 bottle Spanish cava and Florida OJ ($20) and the house charcuterie plate - assorted meats, cheeses, fruits and pickles ($20). The variety of this plate was huge! I honestly didn't know where to begin but my favorites were their house sausages and fresh cheeses such as gouda. We also sat outside since it wasn't too sunny! Cute and vast area with a band playing in the background!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Raye Z.Gainesville, FL7891226Apr 10, 2021
A Picture might have helped me not make this mistake. I will definitely have to try Fehrenbacher's Artisan Sausage another time and order something different, just because I had heard such positive things prior.
The positives are there are plenty of other restaurants around to choose from and a wonderful social park/beergarden in the backyard area.
I swung by and picked up one of their top recommended sausage sandwich. It was, lack luster in flavor and to be honest the taste was off. Day old pre-packed bread is the worst - so sad to not see a collaboration with so many great local bakeries!!!! I was tearing off chunks of the bread just to cope. I took two bites and the rest went into the trash. The flavor just over infuse my mouth with a weird boiled meat undesirable taste. This Sausage sandwich is a Pass for me. I would have preferred it grilled at least.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 10, 2021
Fehrenbacher's is a local butcher shop specializing in sausages, bacon, and specialty meats (wagyu, oysters, etc). The prices on some of these can be a bit high but they all taste amazing, so it's worth it. They also sell sandwiches, some of which rotate. The unfortunate part of this rotation is that sometimes a sandwich you like won't come back for a while. Every sandwich I have had is fantastic and very large, you definitely get your money's worth. My favorite is the ham, apple, and brie, though I do miss the one that had sweet plantains instead of apples.

I had high expectations about the sausage here since it's in the name and boy did it not disappoint.
Ordered the Sausage Sandwich and it was HUGE. The sausage was delicious with so much flavor. The dijon mustard spread over the other toppings helped make this massive sandwich be a great one.
Also had a draft beer to pair with the sandwich. You can enjoy your food and drink outside at their Biergarten/patio or at the park with picnic tables that is connected to it.
Make sure you come early, since I came on a Saturday at 3pm and most of the menu was already sold out.
Will definitely be coming back to try out some of their other meats and sandwiches.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 28, 2018
I had a chance to sample Fehrenbacher's Artisan Sausage at the Haile Farmer's Market and it was delicious! They offer several kinds of sausages including [I was told] a vegan option made with The Tempeh Shop's tempeh. I didn't get to try this one yet, but will look for it.
According to their website: The owner and chef of 20 years, Adam Fehrenbacher [Fehrenbacher's Artisan Sausage] "sources its pork from the Meat Lab at UF. Adam explained that the pork industry doesn't use hormones and only antibiotics when they're sick. His sausage only contains fresh ingredients, and no sodium nitrates." Great to know...
Some of my recommendations: Try the Panang Red Curry Sausage, Herb & Garlic Sausage, Salt & Pepper Smokeys, Rosemary Lamb Sausage and Spanish Chorizo. Amazing selection and an excellent way to support local. They are cooking up good things for the community.Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 18Oh no 0 - Katherine M.Gainesville, FL3713678Mar 18, 2019
This is my second time at Fehrenbacher's but I wasn't active on yelp my first visit.
Being that this is my second visit, I really enjoyed that the food quality and variety was consistent! And that consistency being excellent!
At first glance, the location seems small and without much to offer, but upon entering you will realize the wide variety of dishes that are offered daily! I got the charcuterie the first time and loved it so much that I got it again this time around. All the components of the board were really fresh and unique, and my friends all loved their individual orders.
I was also impressed with the large amount of seating available in the back of the store, sort of like a Biergarten.
The staff is very friendly and our food came out relatively quickly considering that there were quite a few other tables present.
5/5 was easy to give for this pleasant experience! Would recommend to all my friends!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jess M.Gainesville, FL2811314Aug 2, 2020
My husband and I had been a couple times just to pick up some meats to cook up at home, and all were fantastic quality. We went again recently to grab a beer and try a charcuterie board, and WOW it was beyond yummy. We were able to snag a table out back and it was perfect for social distancing. Tables very far apart in the open air. Loved it!

Fehrenbacher's exceeded my expectations. I called up the shop and got the answering machine and I didn't leave a message. Adam from Fehrenbacher's called the office to find out who just called the shop. That action alone made me feel like he wanted to help me which I appreciated a great deal.
I told Adam what I was trying to accomplish, and he offered his suggestions. He put together a sampler's charcuterie tray for me. It was a hit and satisfying.
My heart was set on five stars, but I tasted refrigeration in some of the meat. A box or two of baking soda in the meat storage would probably cure that and I wish I would have known what sausages we were sampling which would have also been an easy fix. I wish the display would have a been more pleasing to the eyes, but that's just me.
Once our function was over some folks asked where did the charcuterie board come from and when I told them they said, "Oh yeah, they have great lunch too." At that point I felt like Fehrenbacher's was a little secret that I found all by myself.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
