I'm not familiar with the area, but the frequent police sirens and general aesthetic of this restaurant's immediate surroundings did not suggest that I'd made a great decision in coming here. However, it was a small but pleasant shop indoors, with various vegan grocery items available as well as a diverse restaurant menu. This is a full-on vegan place, with pictures of a farm animal sanctuary on the wall and a name that seems intended to evoke Hindu mythology.
I got a good quality tea and let it steep before digging into some chickpea fries. You hear this and think "isn't that called falafel?", but these are french fry-shaped and had their own unique taste, enhanced by a bright chili powder if you order spicy. My banh mi came with ample tofu and a variety of mostly pickled vegetables that made a bit of a soggy mess, but a tasty one.
They seemed to be doing some staff training, and were working hard (though a little "don't stare at the customer while he's eating" training might help). They're bringing something worthwhile to Cleveland, though.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - 203181225Jul 26, 2023
We stayed overnight in the area and searched for a restaurant that offered vegan food for delivery. Foodhisattva's name and menu caught our eye. I selected the Bangkok Tacos, and my partner selected the True Tacos.
Our delivery time was 40 minutes when we placed our order, and that's what it ended up being. Each order contained 3 tacos, which was plenty filling. I loved the Bangkok! The flour tortillas were filled with curry cauli bites, spicy slaw, chili sauce, cilantro, and peanuts. What a yummy fusion of flavors!
My partner wished he got the Bangkok after tasting mine, but his more traditional True Tacos were good too. The tortillas contained taco crumble, cashew cheese, lettuce, onion, jalapeños, and tomatoes.
I can't speak to the ambiance since we ordered delivery, but based on the food alone, we'd be regulars if we lived in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Beth W.Cleveland, OH02Jan 14, 2024
Great vegan food! We got takeout dinner and it was ready right on time. I like that they aren't wasteful with extras like utensils we didn't need. The space looks nice: clean and cozy. We had the Bodhi Beet Burger and Bodhi Beet Wrap, and a Harvest Bowl to share. It was all very flavorful and beautiful. So healthy! Even my carnivorous husband enjoyed a rare (for him) vegan meal!

Feeling a bit under the weather the past couple of days, so I wanted to pick up some soup on the way home, I have wanted to try Foodhisattva for a while now and sure enough they were open on New Years Day. Went on the website and the menu and ordering is well laid out and easy enough. I ordered the Hot & Sour Soup and a Small Banh Mi Salad. Received a text confirmation of the order.
As I was pulling up to Taylor Road I got a text informing me that the order is ready for pickup. Got my mask on, since they are required. You only get in the front door and they have set up a table to get your order, the whole process was smooth and easy.
Got the food home and I was very pleased. The Hot & Sour Soup was pleasant, stuffed with vegies and tofu. The broth was a bit thin and they could have turned up the heat and sour for my taste. Overall not bad, but I have had better versions of this.
The Banh Mi Salad was a revelation. Even though I ordered the small it was incredibly filling since it packed the box with a lot of the main ingredients and just a little lettuce. The salad is incredibly flavorful, with the house omelet, fake bacon, pickled daikon and carrots and jalapenos complimented perfectly by the Sriracha aioli. The jalapenos pack a great heat, the omelet add body and texture to the salad. Finally they loaded the salad up with the Coconut Bacon which add a fabulous crunch and almost nutty flavor.
I will be trying Foodhisattva again; hopefully they can reopen their small dining area again soon. The food is flavorful and satisfying. Surprise yourself and see how good a Vegan restaurant can be.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - May 1, 2021
Fantastically unique and creative gourmet vegan fare at good prices. The vegan hard boiled egg was made of ?? but it was absolutely delicious! The vegan banh me was loaded with wonderful smoked coconut, cilantro, vegan mayo instead of sriracha aioli for me, cucumbers, etc on a soft chewy bun. It is now my second favorite vegan sandwich in Cleveland right after the bravocado from Beet Jar which also had smoked coconut in it.
The sweet bbq "wings" were hardish chewy baked or fried tofu triangles (5) with a sweet barbecue sauce that tasted kind of like it had apples and molasses in it. These tofu triangles were a bit too hard to chew to enjoy for me. The bong bong sauce they offer is similar to yum yum sauce but more tangy also with a spicy bite that doesn't particularly linger. The house ranch is creamy and tastes of dill.
The cha shou (sorry about spelling) bowl was AWESOME. There is plenty of rice and tender gai lan stem strips. The soy curls in it are fantastic!!! They're super sweet and have a sort of generalized soy sauce or maybe teriyaki type of glaze and they're super tender and easy to chew. I was just so impressed with how flavorful they were!
This is an adorable little hole in the wall with very limited hours (closed Mon-Thurs, only ever open after 5 Fri-Sun) but so worth you bending your free time to try!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Joshua M.Lakewood, OH282812Dec 5, 2022
I thought they were friendly. They were only open for take out so not sure what it looks like inside as they are set up at the door.
After hearing great things about Foodhisattva, I was looking forward to the food. It wasn't bad but was far from blowing me away. It was just meh in my opinion. I appreciated it wasn't just full of salt but also felt it needed more seasoning overall.
I don't live close and don't think I would make a trip to visit but maybe if I'm near I would stop.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 21, 2021
Foodhisattva is one of my favorite places to grab a bite on the weekends. They have limited hours and only weekends since the pandemic. I cannot say I've had one bad thing on the menu. My ultimate favorites are the hot and sour soup, Bodhi beet burger with extra hot Mayo and a Thai tea. Fun fact about me I don't even like beets but the burger is to die for. They switch out menu items occasionally so one can never get bored with options. I always look forward to trying a new item. Best part about the place is it's 100% vegan and house made. You don't have to be vegan to eat here in fact my carnivore friends love it as well. Think Asian fusion meets gourmet. Place your takeout order on your next weekend off and let them take care of dinner.

This was fabulous vegan food; probably the best I have had. A great option for takeout for vegan and non vegan palettes alike.

The food is excellent! Ingredients are fresh with Asian inspired flavors. We ordered the Bangkok tacos and the cauliflower curry bites. Both were delicious! The freshness of the ingredients really came through when eating the Bangkok tacos. The service here is excellent as well.
One star off for the hours. Unfortunately they're only open Friday through Sunday, so you'd have to plan your visit accordingly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for sharing your experience at Foodhisattva with the Yelp community, we're happy to read you enjoyed our food.
We are still a new restaurant and plan on expanding our hours to weekdays soon. Like many other restaurants in our area, finding staff has been difficult and because our menu is made from scratch, we currently utilize the slower restaurant days of the week to develop new specials (counting desserts, we've already ran around 30 different specials), prepare our menu items, and manage the day to day operations of our little cafe.
Thanks again for giving our little restaurant a try, we look forward to serving you again.
