Back in 1997, Gandhi Indian Restaurant got its start at a Portland food court. Locals loved our food so much that we decided to open a full-service restaurant at the heart of downtown. Now we're serving up lunch and dinner all week long. Our dishes are inspired by authentic Punjab, Northern India, cuisine, so you can expect healthy, fresh meals with bold flavors. We even have vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free dishes because we wanted to have options all of your friends and family can enjoy.…

The food tasted great, but we asked directly if the naan was gluten free and the 2 gentlemen who were sitting by the serving station says it was. It is not. My partner who has celiac was delighted and had some. He is now very sick! This is so violating that you can't trust the menu or the owners. This is not ok! This occured 4/1/24

TLDR: Terrible food with friendly service, would not recommend. The restaurant was completely abandoned on a Friday evening at 7PM. I should've really paid more attention to this lol. The service was friendly, but oh my gosh the food was absolutely terrible. I ordered a mango lassi, Shahi paneer, and garlic naan. The mango lassi was rancid. It was scarily sour and I couldn't finish it. The paneer was oddly sweet and mushy, and the naan was drenched in oil and tasted like citric acid had been added to it. It was $29 without a tip, which is a really high price to pay for terrible food.

Friday early evening I struck gold ending up here on accident. I've been unable to find exceptional Indian cuisine in Portland. When I say this place is amazing it is an understatement. the curry is deep, complex, flavorful and lighter on cream. I find a lot of places use too much cream for my taste. Making curry that is so rich through building flavor is hard to come by. I like medium spice which was beyond perfect. The naan is made fresh in the clay over which is delicious as well. The owner was incredibly friendly and shared this history of the restaurant which opened up on Friday after closing during the height of the pandemic. They are back and planning to expand the menu. He also made me one of the most delicious mango lassis I've had. i can't say enough of how special this place is.

Very bad experience, they won't give you even water. It was tarabble experience we went with our kids and they were super hungry I thought they have buffet so I won't have to think much what kids will like and what not since there are options in buffet but their buffet system will blow your mind. First you won't take your plate they will give you plate in taht they will fill the plate with rice than top of that your vegetable goes that too not all you can only take two vegetable in one plate and one peice of naan, so when I say one peice it's basically one fourth of the naan that's all you get in their buffet. And taste we were super hungry but we have to leave the food in plate that's how bad it was. So please don't waste your time. Hav to select one start bcz it doesn't let us go further with choosing it.

Stopped by for dinner 30 minutes before closing time.
The owners were very courteous and thoughtful. Service was excellent.
Food was quite good. It was fresh and tasted like home food- it was not oily or heavy like restaurant food can be sometimes.
Restaurant was spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated.
Even though it was a few minutes after their closing time, they waited for us to get into our Uber first and only then closed.
      Highly recommend!

Very friendly service! The chicken vindaloo is my favorite! The sauce bar is wonderful! If you like to add some additional flavor/heat to your meal, they have you covered with the option to add as much additional sauce as needed. One of my favorite places to get a delicious Indian style meal.

Stopped here for a bite and it did not disappoint. I'm not an Indian food expert by any means but out of all the Indian food I've tried it was up there. We had the lamb vindaloo I believe it's called also the garlic naan. The chutneys they offered were tasty as well

This place has been consistently delicious for years! We used to visit the food court area frequently and always loved the food. Their sit-down location is equally tasty. So much food and for a really great price. Plus self-serve condiments - yum!

First time having Indian food ever. The flavors were definitely there. The portions for the price were amazing. You could probably share 1 portion with someone. The ordering process felt a little rushed, it was my first time and they seemed like they wanted to help the next customer before they even served food on my plate.

Water is self serve, and they have pitchers available for you to grab to your table. When you ask for Togo, they don't give you a bag to go with it unless you ask.

      Overall, good food, mediocre experience.
