We decided to try out this small brewery in the old Laughing Sun location, after visiting Laughing Sun at their current location.

You can still order pizza from next door, so, that hasn't changed. There is popcorn to help yourself to & a sign for beer infused meat sticks - no other food. Staff were friendly and happy to supply samples and give a run down of the options.

It quickly became clear that this is a place with lots of local regulars, (with their own mugs to prove it), & a very relaxed, friendly environment where everyone (except us) seemed to know each other. There was a small stage in the back, we left right around 6pm & there wasn't entertainment at that time. There are a few round tables that seat between 2-8 people and a standard bar top, which was apparently the place to be with standing room only remaining.

We opted for a 2 seater and sampled a few brews. I went all in on the butter beer, which I regretted about halfway through. Don't get me wrong, it delivered exactly what it promised, which got to be a bit much. If you've a sweet tooth, this one is for you - very butterscotch forward, no hoppiness. My next choice was the winterweizen, which was on the money & probably where I should've started.

In all, we had 4 brews & several samples at $29
All of them were balanced & hit the descriptions.

This feels like a place where someone may feel inclined to hug you - by which I mean everyone seemed happy & very comfortable... almost like family without the fighting. I'd certainly recommend giving them a try, maybe even getting your own mug if you're local. (We aren't)

I was only in Bismarck for Sat/Sun/Mon. Unfortunately, Gideon's is closed on Sundays, so I had to wait for my last night. Too bad -- I'd love to go again.

They have a really nice variety of beers and their Butter Beer was a unique experience.

The server was especially nice. So patient and lovely to talk with. I would post a photo, but I didn't ask her permission. (Keira...message me if I could post your photo.)

They don't serve food, but not to worry. They have a cooperative arrangement with the pizzeria (Fireflour) next door. The servers next door will bring your order right to you in the pub. And their pizzas were amazing...the combinations and the crusts. Very original. (I just checked their Yelp ratings, and they have a very well-deserved 4 1/2 star rating.)

If I ever get back to Bismarck (unlikely...unless I hear from Keira...just kidding...I'm old enough to be her grandpa), I would head back to Gideon's on my first night.

      Atmosphere - 5 stars
      Drink - 4 stars
      Service - 4 stars

Background - Staying with my family for a bit in Minot. I have a Costco membership and they wanted to check the place out. I wanted to hit a local brewery while visiting the capitol city. The rest of the group are not a beer drinkers so it was just me for the visit.

Atmosphere - I love going to small breweries. This is tiny as they come. I found out while there that they are a 15 barrel house. Even with a small brewery they provide a great variety of taps. Standard bar and with high top tables, and a bar that looks out onto the street with the closed glass garage door.

Drink - I brought a growler in case they were out of crowlers. But I want to try a few and my 64 ounce growler would only provide one taste. I tried two of their beers via 16 ounce crowlers as it was a hit and run visit. Rambunctious Haze a New England India Pale Ale and then Imperial Rolo Stout. Who does not love Rolo's? That was my favorite of the two beers. They had hard seltzers on tap too, I not of a fan of these so I did not try any of them.

Service - During COVID pandemic I was surprised to find the bartender not wearing a mask. He was friendly and helpful. After I got back home to Minot I wanted to try my IPA, I found and issue with that crowler. I called to see what they could do and find a solution. The solution was more than I expected, so kudos to them.

Future - If I am in the Bismarck and would love to try some more of their beers.

Small local brewery, stopped here while in town. Great beers. Tried a flight of sours and loved them. Highly recommend the Blue Bliss ale and the White Choc Raspberry!

Great beer and very unique options! It's a great small brewery. Beer Menu is up on a tv behind the little stage and a chalkboard sports the current selections as well. The small space only has an issue when people stand with the door open in the ND cold. We will definitely be back here!

This is a new brewpub that moved into the old Laughing Sun location. Everything has been refreshed and is bright and shiny. They had a nice selection of beers and also a selection of hard seltzers. It's brewed, just like beer, but then fruit flavoring is added. For those who don't like the apple base of cider, the hard seltzer was very refreshing. RL had the blackberry, which was scrumptious. I had the chocolate stout because I missed the new porter by one day. It was decent, but I think I would have been happier with the porter.
Service was very friendly, with the only drawback being the large round tables and hard metal seats. Sitting with strangers on a long table isn't so bad, because you don't have to look at each other, but I Imagine when Gideon's gets busy, you will have to learn to be friendly fast.
The best thing about the location is that you can sit in the pub and order from Fireflour Pizza or Anima Cucina! They even have their menus on the tables!
