Service was quick, the food was delicious and the inside was really pretty! Got a chicken and cheese empanada and a burrito, my friend got the chicken fried tacos and they were beautiful! We both got fries, they were a little soft but everything was tasty and fresh.

I don't claim to be an expert on Caribbean food but I had the Mofongo for lunch and it was absolutely awesome.. Just the right mix of spices, meat, and plantains. One of the best dishes I've ever had and I have been privileged to eat in great restaurants from Jerusalem to Los Angeles.

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT! We got mofongo and the food was amazing! They cook with adobo, sofrito, sazón, this is legit authentic Caribbean food. They have little bit of everything. Mofongo, plátanos, pupusa, arroz con gandules, ITS GOOD! And I'm Puerto Rican, so I know when I'm eating SUPER food! My hats off to this place! We will be back for sure!!
Service was great, food was fresh and done to order nothing laying around or old. COME CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!
God bless them! Pa'lante mi gente!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 74308859Feb 10, 2018
So I've got to give this place a 5 and you all need to pay a visit. WOW.
To find authentic Hispanic food in central Pennsylvania is like being excited about there being water in a desert.
Ambiance: it's cute and family owned. The waitress we had was extremely informative and attentive. I would call ahead if you're doing a group of 4/5 or more as they would need to reserve your table and move things around to accommodate
In the back they LITERALLY just opened a cafe in the restaurant yesterday that's open 7-12pm where they serve breakfast and they have vintage pottery for sale. We shall be back....AND they have real Hispanic Pastries aka like the ones you see in the mercado which already had my heart pitter patter.
The decor is simple and colorful with wood paneling and art on the walls
Food: holy crap. You'll be served hot freshly fried plantains with a sweet aioli as their "chips" first.
And their food is SO well priced and you get high quality and large quantities.
Their food is more Central American / Latin America think Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala. Etc.
It was recommended that we get the dirty tostones by our waitress. Omg it was so good. It was fried plantains with pulled pork, Guac, and a cabbage slaw underneath to cut the heaviness. We only got the half share and could barely finish?!
Also we recommend the empanadas!!! They were freshly fried and piping hot. The special we got was an el Salvadoran one with pulled beef and almost like a beef stew wrapped and fried.
Keep up the great work and thank you so much for the great service and delicious food! And I'll be back to try breakfast and their actual entrees!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Kris H.Mount Laurel Township, NJ057230Jan 30, 2021
A restaurant you would pass up. But I would advise to try them. The authentic heritage meal was good and well portion. Very nice staff. Diffently try other items on the menu in near travel again. So stop threw and give them a try.

Great spot to visit in Mifflintown! Closed Sunday's and Monday's. Get your fix of hometown Caribbean and Central American food for great prices. I visited a couple times over the course of a few weeks and tried both the Chicken and Steak entrees, plantain chips, and empanadas. You can't go wrong but the empanadas (chicken and cheese) were my favorite. It's worth the trip off 322 if you're driving by to stop in for a meal. The restaurant also has a coffee shop in the back that sells fresh cups and some cookies/pastries.

The Guante Family Restaurant has been our go-to place for delicious Latin American food. This weekend we were fortunate to be able to sample their new brunch menu and it did not disappoint!
The brunch menu offers a nice variety of items (all made fresh) at very affordable prices for the quality and portion size. We started our meal off with a Cuban Latte and rice pudding. Up to this point in my life I loathed rice pudding, but after eating the GFR's version, I am hooked and could have eaten a whole bowl of this delicious concoction.
We sampled three of the entrees (see brunch menu photo for descriptions): 1. Mangu con Los Tres Golpes- This was a nice surprise with the mashed green plantains combining with the eggs for a very flavorful combination. 2. Desayuno Salvadoreno- the fried plantains with Spanish cream along side of the black beans/rice were great! 3. Brisket Breakfast Tacos- The house made beef brisket (good flavor and portion) with cucumber pico de gallo were very tasty.
We were very pleased with all three choices and felt like we had just had a little escape from Mifflintown after dining. If these choices sound a little to wild for you, the menu also contains items such as breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burritos.
In my last review I stated that the owners were in the process of remodeling the restaurant, well it is just about finished. There are new floors, ceilings, and soothing painted walls, in addition to custom made tables, which have turned the restaurant into a warm and inviting dining destination.
It is nice to have a restaurant serving this high quality of Latin American food just off of Rt 322 between Harrisburg and State College. Besides The Guante Family Restaurant, the next closest place to get food of this caliber would be NYC. Make the GRF a stop in your travel plans, you will not be disappointed.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 2, 2016Previous reviewAmazing Latin/Central American Food in Central PA!
Look past the décor of the interior and focus on the menu and fresh food. The front of the store is a small grocery store and the owners are in the process of remodeling, so do not let the building's appearance stop you from experiencing some of the best hispanic food around. There are a few tables along the one side for dine-in customers.
The menu is quite varied and includes the standard cuisine choices, but it extends far beyond with many other options such as aprepas, Ropa vieja, pupusas, empanadas, etc. The owners make a point of using fresh ingredients from local farms as much as possible in their cooking. In addition to the freshness, the menu items are handmade, so do not expect fast food!
Our first visit we decided to have the Cuban sandwich, which we saw posted on their Facebook page, along with a pupusa. The cuban sandwich was amazing and probably one of the best I have had outside of southern Florida! The Cuban roll and freshly roasted pork was balanced with the other components of the sandwich to form a masterpiece. The pork and cheese pupusa was delicious and came with a side of their homemade slaw. The slaw was amazing with just the right balance between heat and flavor. I enjoyed the slaw so much I ate the remainder by itself on crisps/chips!
The service was very friendly and they have several options for discounts and return customer rewards. I highly recommend the Guante Family Restaurant for those craving amazing home cooked hispanic cuisine.
