Hangar's the old reliable for good times with friends. I've played in the arcade and on their pool tables countless times and always had fun.
They have a nice selection of beer and drinks. The food is good, but it's the wings that bring the place up to a 5 for me. I've never been disappointed after ordering wings.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jan 13, 2024
My family and I stopped by the hanger to have dinner before a umass hockey game. Even though we had 7 in our party we were seated immediately. The atmosphere is sports bar like and very spacious. TVs were abundant and it would be a great atmosphere to watch Sunday football or Saturday college games. The server was welcoming and took our drink order. We ended up getting large orders of boneless chicken wings and bone in wings with french fries. The food came out hot and fresh and was crispy and juicy. Properly sauced and delicious with proper amounts of carrots and celery with dressing. Food was on point and our server refilled our drinks and checked in a few times. Very nice experience. Looking forward to returning.

Worst experience . Would not suggest even for a quick bite ... rude ... save your time and money

Back in the area, ordered some boneless Honey mustard (extra saucy) & garlic parmesan, seasoned waffle fries, bone in mango habanero with blue cheese dip for pickup over the phone. Service was excellent.
The food came out really great and was much better than last time. The bone in wings were pretty large and saucy. I enjoyed it so much that I had to order again a few days later (though at a different location)
My old recommendations remain (boneless Honey mustard and garlic parmesan) but would like to add boneless mango habanero into my hall of Fame. Oh and off course the house made blue cheese cant be beat.
Well done Hangar, well done!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Aug 27, 2021Previous reviewBack in Amherst, have to hit up my favs. Coming off the Covid restrictions and right before school starts, the place is packed with a 2 hour wait. Decided to do takeout to avoid the crowds. Got the Skymaster with my usuals - Honey Mustard and Garlic Parmesan, blue cheese dip. Waffle fries.
Found a place to sit nearby. Ready to chow down, opened up the boxes and here's my honest opinion-
1. There were barely any honey mustard sauce! (See pic) Why you do me wrong like that bro???
2. I noticed they are doing takeout in paper boxes. This explains the lack of sauce as it would seep through the bottom. Before they were in heavy duty black plasticy boxes. Score 1 for the environment, 0 for my taste buds.
3. The waffle fries did not travel well. Pretty soggy and sad looking after a 10 min drive.
4. The Garlic Parmesan seasoning was saltier than usual.
5. While the chicken was freshy cooked, it was dried out on the inside and the prior lack of sauciness really hurt.
6. Blue cheese as good as before!
So unfortunately, the food this time around wasn't the best. With that said, the flavor profile I was craving was met and everything was fresh and the server I spoke to was super nice despite being so busy so I'm rounding up to 4 stars.
Just wish ya'll didn't dry up the chicken and screw me on the honey mustard sauce!!!!Nov 25, 2019Previous reviewHangar wings holds a special place for those of us who grew up in Amherst! I still remember the original restaurant which was across the current location. It was pretty small with terrible service but we didn't care..we still went because the wings were BOMB. To this day, I don't think I have eaten from an establishment as much as I did from Hangers!
Visiting Amherst again after many years, I see they have expanded to a much bigger space. Things are much different now. My group is seated at a booth and given a menu.
Pssh, I don't need a menu!
I know what I want. Give me a DC-10, half honey mustard and half garlic Parmesan! Despite eating here 842,373 times, I've ordered the same thing for over a decade son, do you NOT know who I am? This being my SO's first time at Hangars and not sharing in my excitement and nostalgia - she orders some OTHER wing flavors, waffle fries, onion rings, and nachos. What is all this other stuff? I told her to get the honey mustard sauce! "Nah, I don't really like my wings sweet. I'm going to try the spicy sauces". Sigh...disappointed, a single tear rolled down my eye.
Order placed and waiting. I'm not gonna lie. I'm pretty SCARED at this point. Did they change the flavors? Will it still be saucy? Do they still give that GLORIOUS blue cheese or are they generic packets now? So many places it could go wrong! Thankfully, I didn't have to wait too long to find out as the food came pretty quick.
I knew by the SMELL...that everything is gonna be alright. And then I saw my BONELESS wings. Soaked in that bright golden sauce of the GODS - that honey mustard sauce. I couldn't wait - I took that boneless wing already covered in sauce, dipped it into the river of sauce on the plate and took that first bite. For that one moment, I was transported to a different plane of existence where there is no suffering, only PLEASURE. NOW I remember why we used to call these "CRACK WINGS" back in the day.
The Garlic Parmesan dry rub was exactly how I remember it. Yea it wrecks my breathe but it's WORTH it. This is also one of my sisters favorite dry rubs but she prefers it more on the bone-in. I'm good either way. Lastly, from my items- The blue cheese dipping sauce is still AMAZING. I prefer chunks of blue cheese rather than completely runny and that's how this is.
Though I've learned if you order takeout, they give a generic packaged blue cheese which is much lower in quality.
As for the other items ordered by my companions, the onion rings and waffle fries were good but nothing to write home about. Srirachayaki and Cajun BBQ were meh at best. Ya'll should have listened to me!
The nachos were pretty good though.
I finished my meal, LICKING my fingers and plate to make sure no honey mustard sauce got left behind. I leaned back in my booth, unbuckled my belt and let out a huge burp. Cravings satisfied!
This is what I have been wanting and waiting for the last 4 years and this new Hangars delivered with flying colors. See you in another 3-4 years! - Sungwoo J.MA, MA02Nov 5, 2023
The foods are great including the services. I think it's one of the best chicken restaurants in town!

Amherst Brewing Company is a craft brewpub that opened in Amherst, Massachusetts in July 1997. It was founded by business partners Greg Noonan and John Korpita. Noonan had previously opened the Vermont Pub and Brewery in Burlington, Vermont and 7 Barrel Brewery in West Lebanon, New Hampshire. Korpita had previously brewed professionally at Windham Brewery in Vermont as well as Northampton Brewery in Northampton, Massachusetts. The two partners had a dream of bringing a brewpub to the college town which had an on-site brewing facility and a tour experience for customers. The original location was at 24 N Pleasant Street, but they moved to their current location on University Drive in 2011. In 2015, Amherst Brewing was purchased by Harold Tramazzo who planned to merge it with his other business: the Hangar Pub & Grill. The brewhouse remained the same, but the restaurant operations were now handled by the Hangar staff. Hangar Pub has five additional locations in Massachusetts, but the Amherst location is the only one to include an on-site brewhouse. Since 2019, the head brewer has been Caleb Hiliadis who was originally hired to clean and fill growlers at the brewery.
My wife and I first visited Amherst Brewing in April 2014 while we were visiting some Massachusetts breweries that were new to us. This was one year before they merged with the Hangar Pub & Grill. The brewery is practically on the UMass Amherst campus and is a popular watering hole for the students there. The interior was nice and offered billiard tables and a lounge area for customers. My wife and I ordered and shared a taster flight of six beers which included "Worthy Pilsner", "North Pleasant Pale Ale", "Cascade IPA", "Postmaster General" (Double IPA), "Massatucky Brown" and "Two Sisters Stout". The Double IPA and Stout were our favorites. We didn't get any food, but the food we saw other customers getting looked pretty good. Some of their specialties include wings, various bar bites, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, fish tacos, and mac & cheese. If you're looking for some good brews and bites in the UMass Amherst area then head to Amherst Brewing/Hangar Pub!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Robert N.Chicopee, MA08Aug 24, 2023
Enjoyed this place everytime I've been. Loads of sauces to pick from as well as plenty of beers. The waffle fries are great too.
Not quite as good when having it delivered but I think wings just might not travel as well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Josh And A.Amherst, MA01Sep 13, 2023
I like the food, for the most part. Sometimes it is hit or miss, but I feel like that can happen at every restaurant. The service is typically pretty good. If you like a sports pub feel, this is the place for you!

Not minority friendly well not tonight they weren't. Walked in with my family to two front hostesses who let us stand their without greeting us. Dark haired girl looked at us and walked right by us. Dark haired guy server stared at us until we asked were they seating and he replied do you want to eat here? It's 15 min wait do you feel like waiting? Made us feel immediately we were not welcome here. Managers should really retrain them in customer services or hiding their bias and feelings when they work the front. Immediately felt my money was not appreciated so decided to leave. They didn't even ask what was wrong just snatched the buzzer they gave us. Terrible experience for the 10 min I was there. Spend your money elsewhere!

We were looking for a place to go for casual beer and burger after UMass tour. Glad we found Hangar. Close to our hotel, great experience. Walk through an arcade area to seat ourselves at the bar. Bartender servers were one of the best parts. Asked if we were new to Hangar and made beer and food suggestions that are popular there. Yes, their boneless wings were awesome and come in an array of sauce options. Fried Pickles good too. Their in house IPA, Jess was just what we were lookin for. Not fancy but hit the mark for what we were hoping to find.
