House Inspection Associates

I was a first time homebuyer when House Inspection Associates assisted me in my condo inspection in January 2019, so one could say that any inspection company could've probably fulfilled my basic inspection needs. I wouldn't have known any better! My realtor recommended HIA, and I trusted her a ton, so I went with HIA.

David was my inspector, and so professional and great. He took his time, was incredibly friendly and patient in answering all of my questions, and gave me great tips along the way for maintenance and how I could/should keep my home in good condition for the long-haul. I really enjoyed the experience in walking through the inspection with him because I learned so much! David caught so many things that I think would have been easily missed (e.g., the dishwasher hanging slightly off, chips and holes inside the cabinetry). He was also honest about the things he couldn't inspect reliably (e.g., AC because it was literally zero degrees outside) and let me know what I could do when the weather was warm enough to inspect. Importantly, David's expertise with bathroom renovations/constructions revealed that there was a structural default in my shower tiling. He went above and beyond by answering questions even after my inspection that helped me and my realtor negotiate successfully with the seller/developer (who was initially reluctant to fulfill my request to fix the tiling). I'm sure it saved me MANY hours and dollars, as well as (importantly) much heartache. David even went up on the roof to make sure that it was truly in good condition (I was buying in a new and small four-unit condo building, so roof issues are still my issue! I later learned that no other unit owner in my building thought to do this, so the info really helped!).

The report was provided quickly and very thorough. In fact, in the last unit that was sold in my building, I noticed that the developer was using my HIA report to ensure that the work on the final unit was thorough and complete. :)

After living in my new home for a few months and hearing from the other first-time buyers, I am more and more convinced that I had a truly extraordinary home inspection experience with David and HIA. When I share (with my neighbors, other homebuyer friends, etc) that my home inspection experience was amazing, everyone looks at me kinda funny. But my experience with HIA has shown me that an excellent inspector can help you save money and time, allow you to negotiate successfully before your closing, avoid major troubles after you close (I'm the only unit in our four-unit building who hasn't had a major issue after move-in), and upkeep your home so that it maintains value. I'm incredibly grateful for David and HIA, and would recommend them without reservation to any homebuyer in the DMV.

It has been some time since Jiri and Co. did a home inspection at our residence. So, what sparked this review?

a). Jiri was the inspector. He was recommended by our realtor (we will never trust that again). Arrived and "I know it all" attitude was impossible to miss.
b). Inspected our home but never really gave an honest review. It all seemed like his only goal was to ensure the sale for our realtor.

He refused to go into our crawl space because of "moisture" that later revealed 35K water damage left by the previous owner. Bad luck, we think not!

When we encountered a major sewer issue at the same area he refused to inspect his "insurance" did not cover it. He automatically became impossible to deal with. Another major expense. This was all within the "90 day warrantee". Its all total BS.

The roof that he "cleared" had to be replace only a few years later. Again, the warrantee they promised did not cover this even if it clearly stated that it would. Read "water leak damage".

Con job if I have ever seen one. I know he is going to reply. I cant wait. Lets compare notes Jiri:)

I found this company last minute through Yelp. They had good reviews, and when I called, they fit me right in. Their price was very reasonable, and I started to wonder if I made the right choice. Boy, did I ever. From the get go, they had SUPERB communication. They emailed, texted, etc, and made the pre-inspection logistics incredibly easy.

Then, time for the inspection. Jiri showed up very promptly and was extremely professional. He was careful to make sure I understood everything he showed me and was also very conscientious to keep things clean and tidy (he put on shoe covers immediately!) And, he seemed to know everything about EVERYTHING. Extremely knowledgeable. After the inspection, he promptly sent me the report which was thorough and very good quality.

I dont rave very often about great service, because I am kind of hard to please. But, I recommend Jiri and House Inspection Associates without a shred of doubt.

Quick response and very accommodating. Would def recommend. I will be using in the future.

These are the qualities I expect from a good home inspector:
1. Good communication
2. Quality reports
3. Responsive to inquiries
4. Attention to detail

For these reasons, I highly recommend working with Jiri at House Inspection Associates. We relied on him for inspection services on two different occasions; a pre-drywall and final walkthrough after our new construction home was built in Fairfax. There were a number of things that Jiri was able to catch, and this includes existing issues as well as maintenance recommendations in his reports. His fee was reasonable as well.

Very professional inspection company! We used them by recommendation of our realtor for a Condo Inspection, and the inspector was very nice, thorough, and timely. We met him at the condo, he went through all of the systems, and sent us the report later than evening. He was very personable, and pointed out a a recommended further inspection (for the HVAC unit, which was working perfectly fine when we got there, but ended up needed replaced!). And also pointed out/found a few cosmetic, smaller details that would help with efficiency. Very knowledgeable, and would definitely use them again!

I recently had a condo inspection done by Jiri. He came at the recommendation of a friend who had used the company (David was their inspector) for the inspection of a 1920s house and found them to be very detailed and good. I was not sure what to expect because this was my first inspection experience - however I found Jiri to be professional and thorough. He explained everything very well and followed up with a written report the very same day. I found the report to be very useful - well organized and detailed.
Oh and it was so easy to schedule the service - they have a great website. My only suggestion would be to list the rates for the services somewhere so folks can have an idea before they schedule. Rates were very reasonable overall. In all I am very happy with the service and have recommended them to a friend who is having her condo inspected next week.

My realtor recommended House Inspection Associates and I could not be more pleased with the work Jiri and David have done. The DC market is crazy, and their inspection services proved helpful in determining whether or not we wanted to put an offer on a house. The first house I fell in love with, David found so many issues we opted against bidding because the cost to fix everything would have proven astronomical. Similarly, they helped us see the next house we loved was in better shape than we thought. They are so professional and thorough, and incredibly efficient to boot! We haven't yet purchased a house, but I look forward to working with Jiri or David the next time we find a home we want to purchase.

Didn't like the communication overall and the associate never communicate with me about the cancel policy. I wouldn't go this route with your home inspection.

This company recently did my home inspection on a house I bought. The inspector was extremely thorough, professional and informative.
They use an software that allows for many pictures, meticulous detailed reporting and recommendations. The thoroughness allowed me to get money back from the seller for repairs. Excellent excellent excellent. Don't bother looking anywhere else.
