Impressive is the word. You can feel the passion when you walk in the door. The place is done right!
We had mango wings for an appetizer....they were MASSIVE and tasted so incredible! The Jamaican jerk chicken was delicious....a perfect blend of spice.
The place was sparkling clean, the staff helpful, attentive and polite. Highly recommend!

We visited the House of Jerk Dread BYOB on Friday evening about an hour before closing. The restaurant was packed with customers and we waited a while before we were acknowledged, the hostesses were also the servers. There appeared to be only two servers for the entire restaurant, which caused the wait for everything to be a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry, so ok. This should've been a sign of what was to come. Order placed, waitress returned many minutes later to state that they were out of both the Jerk Pork and the String Beans. In my personal opinion and experience, if the chef is out of a product (or getting low), the waitresses should be notified as soon as possible. Now on to the meal: Jerk chicken and plantains, which were my second choice. Chicken was fantastic and so were the plantains! The dirty rice, however was extremely dried out and disappointing. Overall, I think they should provide sauces in pour bottles or bowls for bottomless consumption. The tiny paper cups that were provided seemed skimpy and inadequate for the size of the platters. The decor was rather eclectic and disheveled. The restrooms seemed to be an afterthought and not well labeled and overall the place was unwelcoming. The look appeared to be incomplete and haphazard, with repurposed planked walls that didn't seem finished or done with much experience or aforethought, which was disappointing considering the fact that this place has the potential to be so much more. Reggae background music was great! Lastly, upon arriving home, we noticed that we had received a bill for items that we hadn't ordered, it included soda and tea as well as the "Festival", a fried sweet dough side dish. We brought in a bottle of wine and were told that the Festival order was complimentary, so we were overcharged on our bill. Lesson to check the bill upon departure.
Bottom Line: Go for the Jerk Chicken and not much more.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael G.Philadelphia, PA1183161Aug 11, 2018
On a spur of the moment trip into Reading we had dinner at HOJD , and I was quite surprised, it was very good !! A couple next to us had the 3 hour advance notice Jerk Red Snapper which looked amazing reminding me of the whole fish meals I have in Hawaii. I had chicken and curry which was good but I would have preferred the curry to he a little more spicy. The jerk chicken and pork dishes were both very very good , well seasoned and not over cooked or dry. It's also a BYOB place so we enjoyed pairing or Jerk meals with the appropriate adult beverages. If your in Reading PA area give HOJD a try.

I have had the chance to eat here twice, and both experiences were amazing. The food is not only amazing, but you really get your money's worth as well.
The sauces are all handmade and absolutely amazing! This is one of the places you have to get in before it gets popular or you'll never get a seat.
Hats off to everyone there as well, excellent staff, friendly and polite.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Loren B.Appling, GA4622Dec 29, 2017

Awesome Food and Service , the decor is hand made by the owner . We loved the vibe , raw industrial with rough wood planks . Bob Marley music playing in the back ground . BYOB , I recommend a nice California Riesling to pair with the Jerk Pork and Chicken . Delicious side dishes and unique sauces. Give this place a chance it's well worth it .

Probably my favorite international restaurant in Greater Reading area. The restaurant itself welcomes you with a unique theme as the owners made all the tables by hand and upcycled many materials so it's very unique and cool. The only thing that upstages the restaurant is the food! The jerk chicken- AMAZING. The jerk pork- EXCELLENT. I also went for dinner and had the red snapper they offer 3 different preparations and all are great but I like the smoked preparation best. I wish they had Salmon. It seems like a great fit on the menu. Even if it's an off menu "special"
