Huong Viet isa causal Vietnamese eatery located in the very busy Eden Center. They are open from 10am so when we went around 10:30am, there wasn't a wait and parking was a breeze. But as soon as we left, the place (and the entire block tbh) was packed!
Banh Xeo is my favorite Vietnamese dish of all time. There are over 100 items on the menu but as soon as I saw Banh Xeo, I knew I had to order it. The pancake was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. It was packed full of shrimp, pork, bean sprouts, and herbs (e.g., basil leaves) on the side. Every bite was delicious - the savory umami from the protein, the freshness of the veggies, and a tinge of sweetness from the sauce. My friends got the chicken pho and grilled pork vermicelli, and they were all very impressed. I will definitely come back to visit!
It is CASH only so make sure you are prepared before your visit!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 343453808Mar 20, 20241 check-in
This place was alright. The decor is nice, ceiling is pretty. Service was good from the majority of the staff except our waiter haha. We ordered a variety of foods. My aunt really liked her quail noodle soup, she slurped it up. We had the #1 spring rolls, I liked them both. My beef lemon grass rice was ok. Rice was on the harder side, the fam likes it softer. I'd come back to eat. The food was alright. Compared to New York, it's pricier, dishes were mostly $17 -$19ish.
Cash only! Tip included !Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 12, 20241 check-in
I came here after work with a friend as I heard great things.
I ordered the special with pork and broken rice, egg, and meatloaf, which was amazing . I thought the pork had great flavor, and the portions were quite large to my surprise.
We also ordered the spring rolls which was OK but I did enjoy the spring roll sauce that it was paired with
.
Something a note is said they do not take credit card or checks here and only operate on cash only for payment. I'm kind of surprised that they're only cash only considering that a lot of the shops within Eden center do take credit cards now which I thought was a little weird that this local mom and Pop shop still only take cash as a form of payment.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katie C.Fishers, IN04213Mar 1, 2024
If you do Cash only, you should post a sign in the front door or somewhere could catch customers's attention.
I haven't been back to Huong Việt for a while cause of a bad take-out experience last time. We decide to dine-in this time. Nothing changes!! Pho, rice dishes, appetizers are extremely disappointed.
A Special Pho but no meatballs, no tendons (??!!) there are eye rounds and briskets only! Broth is tasteless!!!!
Special rice dish is $18 with a piece of dried pork chop. The fish sauce come with rice isn't good ether!!!
Don't trust Yelp reviews !!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 351251155Apr 9, 2024
The noodles are super good here, but the service is extremely bad. I have waited for 10 mins besides the door, waiting for they queue us or ask us how many people in the party, but NONE of them come, all staffs are walking around and ignore us. Until we almost decide to leave, they said oh there are seats that will be available soon.
But for the food, all of them taste super good, very local, traditional Vietnam noodle. I love the spring roll so much, very crispy and crunchy!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 4553821242Apr 15, 2024Updated review
What can I say? Huong Viet is a solid staple and has always been. Has it gone down a little in terms of quality? Yes. Could it benefit from slightly smoother service? Of course. But all in all, it provides the best array of food if you're a pho-fanatic but also adventurous to try all the different types of dishes on the menu. It provides enough of a selection for even those well versed in Vietnamese food to have more to try.

But the quality of food and cleanliness has gone down a hair, which is disappointing considering that the place has raised its prices. This is completely understandable due to inflation and food cost, but I just hoped that the quality of the food would still be up to its former standards. Instead, I found that some of the food was a bit sloppy and overall, the ambiance isn't as clean as it used to be. I hope it steps up a notch!
Aug 29, 2022Previous reviewAlways a solid bet! Look at that freshness on the meat of the pho! I always think that the grilled platter is great with rice substituted out for the noodles. Makes a great wrap and the meat is always perfectly done!
Mar 29, 2022Previous reviewThis was my first time trying the Banh Xeo and the Drunken noodles (seafood) here. Both were absolutely excellent! A couple things to note -- The Banh Xeo will have a strong pork flavor on the inside so if you're not a fan of the gaminess, I would recommend against it. But the unique taste of the batter is something that will keep drawing you back. The drunken noodles are quite tasty, though I would characterize them as more of a stir fry noodle rather than a drunken noodle that you would expect in a Thai place. The prices, as I have mentioned, have gone up a hair during the pandemic. Nonetheless, this place remains as the local cash-only staple where you find all sorts of great Vietnamese food.
Dec 26, 2020Previous reviewLet's face it. We're all foodies and we all wish that we were Anthony Bourdain, especially in that episode with Pres. Obama in Vietnam. I've tried to work my way up to that gastronomic-trip, eating at Huong Viet dozens of times. With Covid, I can't go to Vietnam, and RIP no Bourdain. But lucky for me, after a couple months of closure, Huong Viet is open for take out only, which I am ecstatic about. If I ever were to publish a collection of essays on restaurant reviews, let it be known: Huong Viet would take a full two page center spread. Not only for its taste but for the depth that intrigues me to learn more about the culture. Food is history and history is culture.
- Food 5/5: My bucket list item is to go through all the food items on this list (as with several members of my family who have also been here more than half a dozen number of times). My favorites? Anything with the nuoc sauce which my mom could identify in a blind test, the pho that is far richer that'll any competitor bowl out there, and the bbq combo platter substituting rice.
TLDR; #1, 26, 45, 53, 71, 93.
- Service 3/5: 3 is an overstatement as I have to fight for attention and service. Was it Ali Wong who said that Vietnamese restaurants need a number in their name to be authentic? Not here, where the restaurant is named after the proprietor's mother. Earning service is a medallion of honor.
- Cleanliness 4/5: Now with Covid, they no longer do dine-in. But there are tables outside and a socially distanced take out mechanism.
- Ambiance 4/5: The decor has transformed over the years from just the Washingtonian Awards to Venetian portraits. But with tiny diner light booth lamps and the spice rack next to it, anything from fancy to rugged fits this vibe. Good food makes you focus on good food. - 1882051004Apr 5, 2024
Very delicious! Everything we tried was great. The crab fried rice had so much crab meat in it. The rolls were fantastic. Friendly and helpful staff. Lots of seating inside with good ambiance. Very enjoyable. Highly recommend.

Huong Viet is the template for what I expect at the Eden Center. Important note - this is a CASH ONLY venue; they advertise that fact heavily so don't act shocked when they don't take your credit card.
I visited for an early Saturday lunch but it quickly filled up (it may have been even busier because of the pending Lunar New Year). My group were probably the only non-Asians (and I assume non-Vietnamese) in the restaurant...which is a good sign this place is authentic.
First off; they have a HUGE menu, so picking something was difficult. There was a small language barrier in placing my order but an English speaking server came up to answer questions (and provide suggestions). Apparently they specialize in hot pot so that's what I ordered, with a side of quail. My group also ordered a few side dishes as well.
In summary - we liked to loved everything. Prices were reasonable...but being cash only was admittedly a pain. Fortunately there's an ATM machine around the corner.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 19, 2023
Stopped in for lunch while in Eden center and went full out for noodles. We got bun Bo hue and the combination Lo mein. Lo mein was served with sauce on the side which actually makes the food that much better.
The taste of everything was perfectly balanced. Not too salty, not too spicy but just right.
It is cash only here so best to come prepared. Will be back for sure.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3856356Mar 25, 20242 check-ins
With peace and love, some of these reviews are dramatic. It is a hole in the wall restaurant that been there for years. I would recommend else where if that does not appeal to you. With that being said, I have been coming to Huong Viet since I was child and have always enjoyed the food! My go to is the Crispy Egg Noodles. The dish is a bed of crispy noodles with a variety of protein and vegetables covered in a savory brown sauce. It is a generous portion and always comes out hot. More than likely can be shared between two people. I also always get the Thai Iced Tea w/ Jelly, it is authentic, sweet, and creamy. Sometimes I go in just to get the Thai tea! The only reason I knocked down a point is because as of recently prices seem to have increased and are high. Although, I will still be going here when I am at the Eden Center!
