We didn't order online because we weren't sure if the price was higher - turns out ordering online gets you free stuff! We'll try that next time.
Honestly, came all the way from Lakewood to Tacoma to pick up because they were the only Teriyaki & Sushi restaurant with decent reviews in even a relative radius that is OPEN CHRISTMAS DAY! We are so grateful. We prefer to order food and over-tip than cook ourselves on this crazy day. We budget for it every year!
Inside, you'll find modern decor and semi-loud, very upbeat music that fits their name of "Joy" ... it's clean and open, while cute and cozy at the same time.
We came here today out of necessity but will return based on a great experience. I will update once we have gotten our food home and eaten. :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sarah H.Sunnyside, Houston, TX041Apr 26, 2024
No chopsticks in bag with Sushi order. Ordered the sushi roll that had lean wrapped around it; wouldn't recommend. The krab changes the texture of the roll. Teriyaki and fried rice 9/10. Sesame chicken 4/10.

I ordered DoorDash from this location so I can only rate their food and delivery style.
I ordered the family meal with Mongolian beef, general tsao chicken, beef teriyaki, vegetable yakisoba, gyoza, and the white rice was upgraded to fried rice. Sadly the rice came as white rice even with the $8 up charge. The meal was packed well and that's about it. The beef teriyaki didn't even have enough sauce for each one to have a drop on, disappointing since the beef itself was really dry. The general tsao chicken was just ok. It didn't have much flavor but to it. The Mongolian beef was unlike any I have ever seen or tasted before, but not in a good way. The beef was grey and tough, and the flavor was literally just sweet onion and nothing else. The yakisoba was very sweet ginger. Not the best, but it was warm and satisfied the craving. Overall it's not that great, I wouldn't order again, but they get an extra star for having great packaging.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jun 13, 2022
After returning from a long weekend away last night, the LAST thing I wanted to do was cook. But, I did want to eat. Instead of immediately ordering something healthy after eating junk food and drinking (not water) all weekend, I naturally decided to order some yakisoba to really finish the weekend with a bang.
First off - a teriyaki place that's open on Sunday, AND offers delivery? Hell yeah! The first spot we tried turned us away before they were even closed, and said it was too late to place an order. Joy Teriyaki of Tacoma? Accepts delivery orders until 10:45. Such a score!
As mentioned, I got the Chicken Yakisoba and my boyfriend got Chicken Teriyaki & Gyoza. The food arrived late, but it did arrive super hot - so I'm not complaining. We live about 20 minutes away too, so I wasn't expecting it to still be so warm.
Was it the best yakisoba I've ever had? No. But did it hit the spot? Heck yeah! The chicken itself was actually really delicious, and so were the noodles. My only complaint is that I wish there was more of an assortment of veggies - there were about 1000 strips of cabbage and maybe two or three slices of zucchini and maybe four pieces of broccoli.
All in all, it was pretty good at decent price. I'd order again - their menu is really vast and there's quite a few other things I'd try from them if I was craving teriyaki on a Sunday, or wanted some delivered!Helpful 17Thanks 0Love this 17Oh no 0 - Sheila H.Tacoma, WA011Jun 4, 2023
I ordered through Uber eats, when the food arrived I was shocked to see what amounted to tv dinner trays. Sealed with clear plastic film with a ventilation slit in it. I was shocked and rather upset. I've heard of low budget food but really? When I went to look at their reviews I saw an honest to goodness review for a different restaurant! Makes you wonder if their just copy pasting the food reviews and changing the names. Wow. The food was lackluster and bland the portions were sad, and the rice... I love fries rice and this one made me want to just throw it away it was so bland and tasteless. Seriously people if your going to make food like this just freeze it in a box and sell it for $2.00 at Walmart. 2/10 would never recommend.

Tried out Joy Teriyaki for the first time. We ordered two "joy special combos" one with honey garlic chicken, one with sesame chicken.
We upgraded both sushi rolls to the Philadelphia roll.
The chicken, rice and gyozas were great! Great texture and flavor for both chickens.
The sushi was disappointing. The menu states it's "smoked salmon, avocado, & cream cheese", but as you'll see in the photo it was fully cooked salmon and just avocado. The taste wasn't great.
Overall it was mostly good, but the sushi was a big let down.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Heidi S.Tacoma, WA4643030Oct 12, 2021
We've ordered from this latest iteration of Joy Teriyaki twice since they reopened, both times ordering honey garlic tofu as part of of our meal. The first time, it was similar to the honey garlic tofu that we've had from the previous Joy Teriyaki businesses. Nothing spectacular, but garlicky and sweet as you'd expect.
Tonight, I called Joy after my partner and I had both taken 1 bite. For just shy of $19 (plus tax and tip), we'd received fried tofu in a vaguely sour brown sauce, that tasted nothing of honey or garlic. Bummer.
The person who answered argued that I simply didn't like honey garlic tofu, and that I hadn't eaten at Joy since it changed ownership again. I let her know that in fact I had, asking a couple weeks ago when they would have bubble tea again, since they weren't quite set up yet. She then blamed her kitchen staff, asked for my number and said she'd call me back.
A few minutes later, the same person called and said I could drive back and that they'd put "extra garlic" on a new order, which would mean, I suppose, "any garlic at all". I agreed to bring the order back with 2 bites missing, but requested a refund instead. I was told that since I'd ordered via GrubHub on the Yelp app, that I would need to take up the request refund with them.
Imagine telling a customer that they are not only wrong about their own, regularly ordered meal and tastebuds, but then refusing to simply refund them after they agreed to make a second trip to return that meal.
What a time to be alive.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 20, 2021
There is plenty of parking stops and the food is made fresh.
I absolutely love this place. They have so many vegetarian options and the flavor is on point. They have other meat options as well. I feel like their vegetarian options are so tasty and have the same type of flavor as their meat choices. I don't feel like other restaurants have these options for tofu. The tofu is so crisp and texture is on point. They also give pretty big portions!
Their fried rice is soo delicious. This location is a little far from where I live but when I'm in the Tacoma area I try to stop by. The workers here are also very friendly and pleasant!
Definitely stop by and try this spot!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Food is great but prices aren't matching up. My pick up order should have been about 29 and some change for two entrees (doordash pickup price), but the in-person (called to order) ended up being about 37 for the same two entrees... not sure how the price changed or if we're just being overcharged. Receipt on the bag didn't include the prices to doublecheck. Don't feel like fighting over a few bucks so just leaving a review for awareness.
