JT's Bar and Grill

So over the last past week I have been back to this bar and grill twice. It was with great hesitation that I stepped foot in there again., but to my surprise it was a little better. I did have the same server which made me nervous by her attitude was better so maybe we caught her on a bad day. Seems to me that she was in better spirits both times that I visited.

Like I said before the food is outstanding and I can never complain about that but they STILL don't have drafts beers available yet. Their fridge is still down and they cannot use their taps and that is disheartening because they have shocktop only on tap.

Other than that this place is a nice quaint spot in Newport News but they still have some kinks to work out.
Needless to say I'll be back again because their wings are AMAZING!!!!!

My ear was burning about this place so we just had to step in and see for ourselves. JT's Bar and Grill is a newly opened "American Restaurant" located in Newport News, VA near the shipyard.

Owned by two dedicated pro active members of the community. This restaurant offers a very upbeat atmosphere with a very unique and exquisite approach on interior decor. The soft grey wall color, the wooden chairs and table tops, and the modern rustic metal wrapped around the bar, were all huge compliments to the ambiance. This venue can host up to 116 people while featuring delicious food & signature drinks.

They accept parties of 10 or more and also offer carry out orders! With a slogan of "Where Friends & Food Come Together" their menu backs that up 100%. Serving appetizers, both burgers and sandwiches, entrees, salads, sides, soups and even offers a kids menu! All off these options have a wide range of vegetarian/vegan selections; which I highly appreciated seeing being vegetarian. The drink menu offers Pepsi products, lemonades, teas, and water. They have several signature drinks as well as beers on tap. The overall layout of this location is well spaced out giving any size group more than enough space to enjoy a great conversation over a meal.

Fun fact the restaurant, they dedicated a new signature drink named "Liberty Blue" in favor of Liberty Apartment Residents; which the restaurant is located just below of. They offer a terrific Happy Hour here from 3pm to 7pm and have live entertainment on Sunday nights. There's minimum street parking here in the front of the venue but are literally several parking lots and garages walking distance from the venue. This place is hands down Five Stars and will definitely bring a lot of enjoyable moments to the community! Make your way in today!

I had high hopes for this place they had a new year's brunch and when my party came in everyone was friendly and they had a decent DJ so we thought it was going to be a nice little time. Once we sat down it didn't take long to get someone to the table initially. So we placed our drink orders quick fast mimosas for $3 let's do it lol!!! It took 30 minutes to get some little mimosas yes 30 minutes!!! And mind you there was barely anyone in the restaurant this point...the place is not that big and were sitting right next to the bar.

So we finally get our drinks and place our food orders and that took forever because the waitress might have been new. So now orders are placed and we got some more drinks flowing and we are waiting for our food vibing out. An hour goes past still no food. Parties that came in after us got all their food before us. 30 minutes later they bring out one person out the parties food and were told the rest would be out in a moment. 30 more minutes go past and still no food.

The waitress comes by with some random order that did not belong to the table smh so we ended up cancelling the order because our food went to a different table. They gave us complementary shoots oh yippe except now I'm tipsy with no food. It took 30 more minutes to get our checks. We ended up going to chic fil a.....NEVER AGAIN!!!!

We had to relocate a baby shower last minute and luckily JTs private room was available. T was so accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure we had a pleasant experience and we did!! Our food was great, drinks stayed full, service was stellar from beginning to end and things couldn't have gone any better. Everyone enjoyed themselves, especially the mom to be and we will definitely be frequenting this restaurant.

I used to come here back in 2019 when I worked in NN and it was always good. I came back today and got the fried fish and fries. They were poppin. Good asf. Good music and nice people

The owners J (John) and T (Teunsha) not only took my friend and I's orders, but asked how our food was and made sure we had everything we needed though-out our meal. There was a waitress there (forgot her name, short hair) she's hilarious! The restaurant is a cute spot in the perfect area for busy shipyard workers, city workers, and apprenticeship students. I ordered chicken tacos and fries. The chicken tacos were really good! My friend had the shrimp, chicken, and steak tacos, sweet potato fries, and took a crab pretzel to go. The Food was fresh and hot, my friend said her margarita was pretty good also. They have a room that can be used for large parties which is always nice. They have WiFi ! Tacos + WiFi pretty much = happiness to me . I'm sure Tuesdays aren't the busiest day, but they made sure my experience was great. I will be visiting again!

Went to Brunch on Sunday and spent an hour and a half in this establishment. Even so, I am unable to tell you how the food was, because we never received any. During that time, we received ONE round of drinks.... so let's start from the beginning.

Came to the restaurant and was greeted and sat. The restaurant was busy, but well staffed, and there was not a wait to get a table. We sat there for 15 MINUTES before someone came to get our drink orders. I would have said something, but my sister knows one of the owners, and came to show support for the new business, so I kept quiet.

The waitress herself was friendly. Got everyone waters, and took drink orders. Our drink order was one mimosa, and one Hennessy & Ginger Ale.

That's it......

why did that take another 10 minutes to receive those?...

So we get our drinks. By the time she came back to take our order, the drinks were gone, and we were ready for a second round.

(At this point, we've been here almost an hour now)

3 of us order steak and eggs, one of us order Waffles, and we put in our second drink order. At this time, tables were beginning to close out checks, and there were about 3 or 4 empty tables in the restaurant. So we were optimistic in the fact that now that we've finally been able to place our order, the food would come out quickly....

WRONG

We wait ANOTHER 20 minutes, and a server walks over to us and let's us know that our meal is going to be another 20 minute wait because they don't have any steaks thawed to make our meal. I said "Well, we've already been waiting almost an hour and a half" and she says "I know, thats why I'm over here." .........

Not an apology, not a manager coming over to let us know they're aware, just a "do you still want it or no?" So at this point, we havent received another round of drinks, havent got any food, and the handling of the entire thing is piss poor. So we ask them to cancel the order, and to get our tab so we can pay for the 2 measly drinks we received 3 light years ago.

Couple of important side notes:
I was a server for 3 years. I am very aware of what goes on behind closed doors, and how it is when a restaurant is busy. I am the last to EVER complain and tip MORE when I see servers and managers busting their butts to ensure a great experience. HOWEVER, we watched people that came in AFTER us, recieve their food, so what was up with that? We were also told the reason our steaks were going to take so long, is because they needed to thaw from the freezer.......I just can't.
There was more than enough staff to handle the smaller sized restaurant, and 2 drinks that have 2 ingredients each should not take 10 minutes to make. And 10 minutes to carry over to a table.

I would have loved to give this place another chance, but after watching the way management handled the situation, they're forever crossed off my list of places to go. Good service can save any restaurant, and you just don't have that.

Hidden and new gem in downtown NN. Great ambiance and food! The music was on point the entire night. Waitress was great and I will definitely visit again. If you are in the area you should stop by and try out the food!

Great upbeat atmosphere with personalized customer service. They offer a nice selection of drinks and the wings are on point! Definitely one of a kind.

Steakneggs well done came bloody. No replacement due to cross contamination but fried my potatoes in fish grease!
