Kaheiki Hannosuke is one of several eateries from Japan. Located in the bottom of Waikiki Plaza shopping center, KH is noted for their tempura. There is even directions how to "properly" eat tempura. You have selections to order a tempura plate of tempura bowl.
Tempura plate - 5/5. Tempura Bowl - 5/5
You get miso soup with the tempura plate and tempura bowl. The miso soup was very tasty. The tempura batter is excellent! It's light, crispy and blends well with the veggies and shrimp. It's one of the lightest tempura batter with amazing crispness I've had. The veggies were fresh and prepared just right. The shrimp was tender, not hard or over cooked.
Overall, KH prepares a very awesome tempura. It is worth giving KH a try.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 31, 2020
Can you guys believe I haven't been to Yokocho yet?! The cons of not living in town :(
My mom had a friend visiting from Cali and we were in Waikiki and decided to check out Yokocho! So. Many. Food. Choices. I wanted to eat everything!! We walked by Hannosuke and I remember my friend had suggested this place. He raved about their tempura bowls! So that's what we decided on!
While I was looking at the menu, I didn't know what the difference between the bowl and the plate. The bowl comes with the sauce poured on your tempura, whereas the plate comes with sauce on the side and you can dip your own... which I like better :)
I got the tempura plate without miso soup - comes with 2 shrimps, mushroom, eggplant, pumpkin, shishito pepper, and a soft boiled egg. It was delicious!!! My mom got the shrimp tempura plate and her friend got the shrimp tempura bowl.
My mom saw they had tempura eel, so we ordered that as well. I've never had eel as a tempura, so it was pretty tasty! Oh and their choi sum is really really good, so make sure you eat a lot of it!
Make sure you let them know that you're Kama'aina, so that you can get a discount. I can't wait to come back to Hannosuke!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0Business owner information

Aloha,
Thank you for your review and pictures with Five stars.
We are appreciated to come to our restaurant.
We are always waiting for your next visit.
Thanks again. See you soon. - Mar 26, 2020
This first time i had Hannosuke was about a year ago and I was absolutely blown away. Don't tell my mum, but I may like their tempura more than hers! (Jk, if you're reading this don't kick me out please HAHA)
Here's why I say this:
The batter doesn't taste oily like other places, and it always comes out SO crisp while keeping whatever they're frying so perfect.
Portions aren't too terrible for the price, and especially in a Waikiki location, you'd be surprised at how full you can get from a meal here at a decent price!
THE SAUCE. Ho man, the sauce is really what makes this place so special. I've only ever gotten their Premium & Special Bowls, but they pour that magical brown liquid gold on top, coating every single piece of tempura juuuust right. The tempura sauce also gets soaked up nicely by the rice.
KAMA'AINA DISCOUNT. Sorry, I'm still living that #brokecollegelife so anywhere I can find a discount, you can bet your horses that I will use that discount. They offer a 10% kama'aina discount here which doesn't seem like much, but anything counts for me!
On my most recent visit, I got the Special Tempura Bowl without miso soup (~$15) and as part of their end of March promotion, I also got a free Keiki size bowl free of charge! This keiki bowl was LOADED with so many things - pumpkin, two shrimp, soft boiled egg, and nori. You really can't beat that value!
BUTTT my favorite will forever be the Premium Bowl - It's pretty much the same thing as the Special Tempura Bowl, but instead of the white fish, they give you a whole eel (anago).
My mum is a picky one when it comes to Japanese food, and she gave me a proud stamp of approval for this joint! Can't wait to come back again when Waikiki Yokocho opens back up in May!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

Whenever I'm craving Tempura-don, I know I gotta come here! This is literally the closest I've gotten to what they have in Japan!
First off, there's ALWAYS gonna be a line. I PROMISE it's worth the wait!!!
I personally recommend getting the bowl version only because I LOVE the ten-don sauce all over my rice, tempura, and popping the egg!! Ugh! The best!! #1 thing!! Pop the soft boiled egg and mix it with the rice!! Soooo good!!
I got the Shrimp Tempura Bowl and it came with FOUR shrimp tempura, a shishito pepper, and a kakiage with scallop & fish in it! You can choose to get your bowl/set with or without miso soup. There's all kinds of bowls from vegetable tempura, to premium bowls with a little bit of everything including anago (salt water eel).
If you have a Hawaii ID, they are currently offering 15% off! (Usually 10% off)
All I have I say is, you need to try this place if you love tempura!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi, Thank you for sharing a good review with us.
We really appreciate that and happy to hear you had a good time in Hannosuke Hawaii!!
Hopefully, see you again. Thank you for coming!! - Oct 22, 2019
Met up with long time friend Jason who just returned from Japan earlier this afternoon. As Jason lives near Waikiki , Yokocho Alley would be a easy and convenient location for dinner.
Yokocho Alley has many restaurants to select from. In my past years , I have dined at least 6 different ones. Kaneko Hannosuke was my selection for tonight and my first time.
I ordered the Shrimp Tempura .Along with the Shrimp, there were Pumpkin , Squash ,Carrot on a bed of Rice . Miso Soup is also included. The Tempura batter was excellent. Thin coated , not heavy and crispy fried. The size of the Shrimp were at least 1/2 foot in length. Overall , a nice meal
As Honolulu is more diverse in Asian culinary, I feel any meal you have here is as authentic as it gets .

This is a hidden gem!!
Located in Yokocho, this tempura place is rad sty and cheap! I usually get tempura teishoku so I can dip my tempura in the sauce but my friend said to get the bowl and I did not regret it! It was fried to perfection and tasty. Lots of tempura topped on a bowl of rice. We got the regular donburi which included 2 shrimp, one egg tempura, shishito pepper, pumpkin, nori, and a super tasty mushroom! The mushroom was my absolUte favorite and big! They give you unlimited ginger and Choy sum which are both tasty! You can add miso soup for less than $2 and if you show your state ID you get 15% off!
I will definitely be back, the service was quick and food came out fast. I was lucky there was no line when we arrived and got seated instantly! New favorite tempura place, I want to go back already!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Just thinking about that crispy, delicious tempura gets my mouth watery.
This place is in Waikiki Yokocho Alley, so do expect it to be busy. The good thing is that they offer flat rate parking (during certain times/days).
We got seated immediately. I ordered the Vege Tempura Bowl and the other group members got the main Tempura plate/bowls. My Vege Tempura Bowl was absolutely delicious! It had the Tendon sauce, which is sweet and tasty. The texture was crispy and crunchy - not too hard and not too soft. The vegetables were very fresh and the mushroom was killer. With the sauce on the rice, it was such a perfect combination and incredibly satisfying. The other group members also enjoyed their dishes very much!
The vegetables they provide in the pot was also delicious and so complimentary to the tempura.
Service was absolutely fine. We had no issues. They were attentive, friendly, and efficient.
Prices are very reasonable, imho. Only because I was full and I didn't even get the set, which comes with miso soup. But also, they give the side vegetables for FREE. Also, Kama'aina discount!
I would definitely come back here to get my tempura cravings fulfilled. The parking situation isn't that bad so that won't be a problem. Definitely try this place if you appreciate delicious tempura at reasonable prices.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Hello,
Thank you so much for review and five stars. The vegetable tempura bowl is one of our new menu. We are really appreciate that you enjoyed. Hopefully, see you soon. Again.
Thank you. - Sep 20, 2019
I was craving tempura so bad but the only place I knew that served good tempura was Marukame but I wasn't feeling like udon...then I remembered that my friend (Alicia M.) RAVED about Hannosuke telling me that's her go-to place in Yokocho so I had to check this place out for myself. There was a good amount of people in there but enough seating where we didn't have to wait for a table. We decided to sit at the counter where it ended up getting kind of hot so I would recommend sitting at the other tables if the heat bothers you
The prices weren't too bad, an average of $15 a bowl. The portions, on the other hand, seemed a bit smaller than I would have liked? But I left feeling pretty satisfied! Not too full yet not too hungry. You basically choose either a tempura bowl or a tempura plate. With the plate, the dipping sauce is on the side while for the bowl, the sauce is drizzled over the rice. This is one of the best tempuras I've ever had on this island; light and crunchy! Definitely a good breading ratio to the food. What I also love about this place is they have AYCE choi-sum in a jar for you. Looks like I might of found my go-to restaurant in Yokocho tooHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Please come again. Thank you also good pictures. - Apr 18, 2019
My brother took me here for lunch, its located in the Yokocho or food hall area of Waikiki among many other Japanese eateries, including many ramen shops.
I got the Premium tempura bowl and my brother got the Special tempura bowl, i think you can order it with out miso soup for a buck or two less. The only difference between special and the premium is a large piece of anago tempura.
What sets this tempura apart from all other tempura ive had is the onsen tamago tempura, so good! Once you cut into it the yolk just oozes out, its almost like egg porn. Whats also good is the nori tempura and the scallop tempura too! The shrimp while still very good, i have to say ive had better more delicately fried shrimp and lighter batter; but what makes it is their sauce, it has a stronger dashi flavor to it. So good.
I think the tempura is the best on the island because of the tasty tempura sauce and the variety of tempura, but mostly the onsen tamago.Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0
