Kimpanadas

Stumbled in here last night after dinner on the block because I wanted a dessert empanada. The apple pie empanada was tart and hot! Perfect for the cold day we had. I also picked up a rice crispy treat because they looked so good.

My favorite part of the visit was the workers. They were so nice and funny to talk to. I'll be back when I'm in this part of Brooklyn again!

Excellent empanadas with a great variety. Price is worth it given the story.
Great staff who happily shared Kim's story with me. She's filipino and german. She wanted to open a business serving food she likes, hence Kimpanadas. She's a new yorker! The desserts are to die for! All yelpers be sure to support Kimpanadas, a local business.

Delightful Carroll Gardens spot with some fascinating, diverse, and--most importantly--delicious takes on the empanada.

My favorites--and absolute go-tos--are the Pernil, with its juicy and more traditional Cuban vibe, and the thanksgiving (get there early before it sells out), which combines the deliciousness of your thanksgiving leftover sandwich baked into a flaky, baked empanada.

Also love that the empanadas are in fact baked, and feel a tad bit healthier--or at least less greasy--than your traditional options. In fact, virtually everything is baked, including their chicken wings (best in chiqui Asian bbq sauce, imho), Mac n cheese, onion rings, etc.

Shop is small, with a strange mélange of food stand and a couple of other assorted items such as dog treats--Colorful and charming and eclectic. A few tables outside to sit and eat on smith if you prefer not to do to go.

Went here with a friend and she said, "it's the best empanada I've ever had". This was after a few drinks but the sentiment is the same. Totally worth stopping in.

Had a few items at Kimpanadas on Saturday afternoon. While it was hectic and a little pricey, I felt the quality was high and I would not hesitate to return.

Quality: I originally came to Kimpanadas to get Churros, but when I was told of a short wait, I figured I would also grab a few Empanadas. I selected the Beef & Cheddar, Chicken Mozzarella, and Beef & Maduros. By far, the best was the Beef & Maduros, which added a complimentary sweetness to the savory meat. I would not order the Chicken Mozzarella one again, it lacked the depth of flavor that came with the beef options. The Churros were solid, though I didn't love how the chocolate was on top rather than on the side. The fact that they stayed fresh for my journey home was impressive.
Quantity: The empanadas were a little smaller than I expected, but they were completely filled inside.
Value: $6.00 for the selection of Empanadas. $6.00 for Churros.
Ambiance: Kimpanadas is a hole in the wall spot located along Smith Street in Cobble Hill. They have some of the food options displayed in the window, but it is filled with so many other items it is hard to focus. The inside area is barely enough for two people to squeeze in to order. Outside they had a single small table set up as well as a high top with a few seats. It is really made for grab and go.
Crowd: Constant flow of guests ordering, though more than a few left frustrated when they could not find an option that worked for them.
Service: It was hectic behind the counter, with the staff member at the register confused about what they had available. They really need to have a sign somewhere to inform guests of current options.
Parking: A few street spots out front.

Im so happy Kimpanadas opened across the street from work! Not only is Kim and her staff friendly and wonderful, the food is yummy!!! Today I tried the wings and they are delish!!! Cooked well because I am super picky and the flavor is not your usual buffalo wing which i appreciate! Love having you guys so close!

Lovely empanadas with a unique flair. For example they make a thanksgiving flavor with Turkey and cranberry.

I had the beef maduro. Slightly sweet but still savory. Crust was light and filling was plentiful. For $6 I think it's not too bad. Wish they had a deal for 2.

OMG! Delicious empanadas made with care - flavorful and SO fresh! We tried Thanksgiving, BBQ chicken, spinach & mozzarella and beet/goat cheese. Friendly and very helpful service!! Will go back!!

This place is tucked inside another establishment so it was kinda hard to find at first. Greeted by Kim herself and made the order for 3 different empanadas . Apparently some are baked and some deep fried which is my fault for not recognizing ,but I prefer the latter .

The baked Empanadas's crust didn't offer much flavor and didn't efficiently compliment the empanadas fillings. The spinach and cheese was my least favorite with it having too much spinach and the cheese downright being smothered as a result.

The beef empanada was a lot better . Housed in a deep fried shell and seasoned perfectly . It might have had too much meat ,which for many isn't a bad thing but it ultimately takes away from the flavor of its delicious crust which is my favorite part of an empanada .

The last empanada I had was the pulled chicken . Never been a fan of pulled chicken but it was cooked very well . Chicken expertly seasoned and made even better when dipped in the dipping sauce and housed in a baked crust.

I more or less rounded up from a 3.5 for Kimpanadas . I enjoyed my empanadas sufficiently and I like that they seemingly cater more to the health conscious based off their baked wings and baked empanadas offerings .

I work down the block and first walked by this place and all the kitty decorations caught my eye. But when I walked in I fell in love with all the delicious empanadas and sweets ! This is the perfect munchie place ! So full of soul and personality with the place itself and the food that's served. There customer service is great and the women there are so lovely !! My favorite empanada is the beef/sweet plantain and THANKSGIVING (which is year round!), combined with a cold cherry root beer, and the peanut butter cookie are my go to. Keep the hustle up ladies xoxo
