Our last night in Switz we came here...

Recommended by the concierge... we walked here, and had extremely delicious steak with fries and small salad and a bottle of red wine.

It doesn't get any better than that.

I was expecting good quality steak seeing this is a steak restaurant. Most of my filet was inedible (mostly chunks of fat) and it was over cooked. The only good thing about this meal was the frenchfries.

      Terrible service as well.

The namesake steak dish is great -- l'entrecote cournnee. Soft french cut beef with tasty seasoning and accompanied by nice frites and veggies, plus salad, well executed overall. Perch with sesame and saffron also tasty. Amuse bouche starter. Try Swiss humagne rouge or just stick with gamay rouge. Water costs a lot so try to get tap.

L'Entrecote Couronnee is a small steakhouse in the centre of Geneva, a one-minute walk from Hotel d'Angleterre (which I am using simply as a reference point). The restaurant interior is basic and a contrast to the two slightly swankier other Entrecote restaurants I frequent when here, Café de Paris and Le Relais de l'Entrecote. And whilst there is some similarity in the Entrecote served at Café de Paris and Le Relais, the same cannot be said about Couronnee. In addition to the interior, the sauce they use at Couronnee also differentiates it from the other two. Firstly, it's not as buttery (which may actually be a good thing) and second, it has a very distinct, almost over-powering flavour of herbs; Thyme? Rosemary? I couldn't quite place which but whatever (or whichever), it completely dominated the taste of the dish, not allowing the beautifully cooked medium rare beef to shine through. And that's a pity really because it was quite evident a good cut of meat was being used. Even scraping off the sauce did not help.

Service was the other disappointment. There was only one waitress for the entire restaurant, which at 20:30 was packed to the hilt...on a week night. All credit to this little French firecracker, she managed everything as fast as possible, and at all times reminded composed and smiling. Yet the speed at which she had to move in-order to keep everyone happy left us feeling a little rushed if not giddy.

I did not enjoy my meal nor my experience at L'Entrecote Couronnee. I will not return and therefore cannot I recommend it. What I will do however is return to one of my regular Entrecote restaurants to get my bearings straight before leaving Geneva.

      Waste NOT. Want NOT.

One of the best places in Geneva for a great French steak cut, entrecôte. It truly is amazingly done here. I have been coming here for close to five years and I have never been disappointed. Other menu offerings, such as the French country chicken are equally impressive. Service is impressive, from staff who have been working here longer than I've been a patron. Decent wine list with local Swiss wines in addition to French wines. Yes, its pricey, but you will leave knowing you have enjoyed one of the best meals of your life.

First night here and we found this place. I liked it MUCH better than the "institution" of the place we went to the next night called Le Relais de l'Entrecôte. Everything is expensive in Geneva, but I would rather have this steak that was a little more expensive, but better and better desserts. Also, the wine as better here than the other place.

The food is decent, I had fish and probably it wasn't the wisest choice. Meet seems alright, at least from its looks. The place is nice and cosy. Maybe a bit noisy, the service could really improve.

By far the best meal in Paquis. This small restaurant had impeccable service. The quality of the food could not have been better. Service begins with a small glass of rose wine. This is followed by a small appetizer and salad. I ordered the entrecôte couronnee. The steak was prepared to perfection, (sliced though one cannot even tell that when served) without an ounce of fat. It was served with steamed vegetables and French fries.

Had a wonderful meal of l'entrecote with a very tasty sauce, crisp fries and fresh salad. The chicken and veal were in scrumptious sauces, as well. Service was very friendly and welcoming. A very nice 1/2 bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape wine and a pleasant mousse topped off a terrific meal, the best we had in Geneva in two days

We went there last Tuesday night for dinner and the place was full - and very lively. The American couple on the table next to us told the chef it was their second consecutive night as the food had been so good the night before - some recommendation. I had a good chat with the chef Maurice who does the rounds after service and he clearly has a passion for what he does and for selecting the best local produce. The service is attentive (if a little overworked) with the sous-chef serving the guests straight from the kitchen. My main course was superb - veal with a type of lentil stew - the flavours were excellent and it made a change from steak frites which remains the speciality of the house. Its a nice place with a history too - photographs on the wall show it much the same in 1945. With quality and service this good its easy to see why you'd need to reserve - even mid week in the credit crunch.
