The food hit all the spots it needed to: good flavors, great portion sizes, and the drinks were so fresh and good.
I'm from CA and haven't found Mexican food as good as this anywhere North of NY yet.
The service was also amazing - the kind woman who sat and served us was so sweet and made sure we were all set with anything we needed/wanted throughout our time there.
Shoutout Hartford for having such a gem in their grasp.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gary C.Jardim Paulista, Jardim Paulista, Brazil3715Mar 9, 2024
Best Mexican I've had in the Hartford area, period. Try this place! It is small and I'd recommend take out but I love it.

Mofongo con chicharron de cerdo.
The pork was fresh and hot. Rice was tasty and didn't have that"Uncle Ben's" flavor. A sure sign your meal was not made with respect. One complaint. Either drop your mofongo or make it right. No flavor. No just plain. But what really is offsetting is that you can tell that they take what's left from the day and PACK IT with what they are using. Like a never ending batch. The consistency reminded me of dry smashed stuffing. Absolutely no air pockets at all. One solid brick. I included a small picture of a piece so you can make your own decision. Fix your mofongo and make it with love. Food gives life. We enjoy life so we expect to enjoy our food. Discontinue or fix. The only two choices.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Laura C.West Hartford, CT16475Mar 14, 2023Updated review
Quesadilla and empanadas were almost as good as last time. Maybe the novelty has just worn off.
Instead of sopas, I got a chicken burrito this time. It tasted pretty good, but was sooo greasy. Also it was just rice, chicken, beans, and cheese. I was really missing that nice fresh produce balance (tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, etc.)
Also, I still think it's really weird that the entrees come with a side of fries.
Pretty good comfort food, but it won't be a regular meal.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 14, 2022Previous reviewWe got cheese and beans pupusas, pork sopes, chicken quesadilla, and chicken empanadas.
The pupusas were just ok. We barely noticed any cheese and it just tasted like flavorless mashed bean in a dough pouch. And it didn't really go well with any of the sauces given.
The sopes was pretty good, but dry. I wish there was a sauce drizzled on top or for dipping. I added sour cream and it was definitely better. The pork was really great though.
The quesadilla was really big, with nice big, well-spiced pieces of chicken. It came with fries that were a little soggy. We did get delivery, so I understand that the fries aren't fresh out of the frier, but they have still been crispier from other places. Overall, the quesadilla was very enjoyable though.
The empanadas were a little strange...they tasted so much like samosas! Maybe chicken empanadas are supposed to taste like this (we usually get beef empanadas), but in the end we were not complaining because they tasted so good, and didn't even need a sauce.
Will definitely try this place again! - Jocelyn A.San Francisco, CA01Jan 9, 2024

I took out lunch from this place. Even in this pandemic, they have indoor seating. And a good number of customers were eating inside. So they have a dedicated customer base. I liked the drinks the most. Horchata was the best of the drinks. It was one of the best I ever had. I also went for a soursop milkshake, which was also good. Mofongo was my favorite entree. Bandeja Paisa was good as well. Meat felt a bit dry though. Portions were enormous.

Another great lunch at this quiet little place. Perhaps you have eaten in the original colourful place closer to Pope Park. ThIs is the second generation. The $10 lunch special can't be beat. I had the chuleta (pork chop) straight from the grill served with white rice, beans, salad, tostones and a slice of avocado. What a plate of deliciousness! Had a passion fruit (maracuyá on the menu)!but I know it as parcha. Ice cold and smoothly fresh. This Is a nice quiet place to enjoy your lunch.

Nice new spacious digs with the same quality of food. Had the $10 Lunch Special and chose the Grilled Pork Chop over the Chicken or Steak. This came with rice and super beans, small salad and my choice of Maduros over Tostones or French Fries. Great taste and plenty of food. Ate at the bar and there were quite a few tables of customers. Have to go back for the Pupusas!

I had the pork dish with plantains, beans, and rice. The pork dish was seasoned perfectly and grilled. The plantains were not at all greasy, the beans were yummy, and the delicious rice was a big surprise. Rice at most places is just boiled. I usually don't bother eating it, but I certainly ate a lot of it here. The only problem for me was that the pork chops were a little bony and hard to eat. But they were so tasty that I would order them again.
