Larry's is pretty much your typical ice cream place. Pretty reliable and reasonably priced.
They have probably 20-30 different flavors available at any time and they also have brownies, cookies, and other treats if you're craving something else that's sweet!
They have a few places to sit inside and a few outside as well if you want to enjoy the weather. This is a good option if you're near Clarendon and you want real ice cream!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1034215240385Apr 19, 2015
Glad we tried this place out.
The Cardomom Ice Cream was calling my name. It had a wonderful consistency, smooth and creamy. The flavor was a bit light but still good stuff. Employees were sweet and quick. They were patient with us as we tried to figure out what we wanted. One scoop in a cup was $4.50, a bit on the pricier side. Seating is available. They have a variety of Ice Cream flavors like Red Velvet and Vietnamese Coffee. The Red Velvet has pieces of cake mixed into it. Very cool!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Jun 24, 2015
I really like Larry's. They have interesting flavors (cardamom almond, sea salt caramel, something called ecstasy) along with classic ones. The ice cream is creamy and smooth.
They are open late and offer coffee and pastries as well. My only complaint is they are always understaffed. There's always only one person and it can be very frustrating at times.
The entire DC metro area is lacking in true ice cream, and with so many Frozenyos closed and all of the Pinkberrys gone, it's a bit difficult to get a good scoop. Larry's offers just that.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Helen T.Richmond, VA10157159Jun 1, 2016
So this was actually really confusing to find! We found the old Larry's Ice Cream location to be boarded up and closed! But across the street a blue neon ice cream sign was blinking at us - Hooray! But wait! This new place had a Larry's Ice Cream poster! By golly, Larry's Ice Cream and Spices seem to have been combined!
This seemed to be the case (we even sent a message to Yelp) when we asked the shop owner he wasn't very helpful, just said "Yes, this is Larry's Ice Cream". So, here it is, folks! Across the street. The ice cream was delicious. We ordered this and a doppio espresso, which was dark, strong and had a perfect crema to espresso ratio. It was a little expensive (one doppio and two ice creams was 18 dollars) but hey, an indulgence every once in a while is good for the soul!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 16, 2015
Nice little place. The sign says they have over 40 different flavors but ut looked like they only had about 20 of them out. I got two scoops - the salted pretzel and peanut butter cup. It was good but i think i am just jaded by Ben and Jerrys. Im so used to big chunks of goodness in my ice cream. The ice cream wasnt super rich and wasnt bursting with peanut butter like i was hoping. I got mine in a chocolate sprinkles cone and the guy put a cone on my cone, so i guess that was pretty nice?
The best part is that they are open til 2am and they are right next to the bars, so you can satisfy your drunk ice cream cravings easily.
They do have a couple flavors id like to try (viagara??) so i would definitely be back !Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 12, 2012
Before Larry made homemade ice cream, I think he was a used car salesman.
Brother was trying to hustle me on chocolate chip cookies! I only wanted one but then he offered two for $3. I bit and as soon as he saw my inner fat kid peek through he changed his mind -- a whole tray for $5!
How can a girl resist? Luckily self constraint was on my side that day and I stopped myself even though it was a jawsome deal.* However, that didn't stop me from leaving without trying a bite of their pumpkin and Vietnamese iced coffee ice cream.
My cookie seemed a bit hard but a fifteen second blast in the microwave made it good as new again.
This isn't the most charming ice cream or bake shop I've been to but they did the job quickly, cheaply and pretty darn delicious.
Side note: My biggest regret of 2012 is not partaking in this deal.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Sep 12, 2012
I was excited to give this place a try since I like all things ice cream! They do have a wide variety of flavors and I wanted to try something new. I tried the Lychee flavor and Red Velvet ice cream but did not find them interesting enough to order them.
I settled for cookies and cream, after reading other reviews but it was sub-par at best. I have had much better cookies and cream ice creams before to know this was not up to that level.
Also this place should not be confused with Larry's Ice Cream at Dupont Circle (one of my favorite places for ice cream).Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nov 8, 2013
I devoured my Peach Bourbon Ginger ice cream cone while waiting in line for Whitlows during the Halloween bar crawl. Doesn't the flavor just sound scrumptious?? It was cold outside and I still enjoyed it. The ice cream was so thick, creamy, and luscious. I realized midway though that I don't care much for the spiciness of candied ginger lol. But there were only tiny bits of it, and the ice cream itself tasted purely of ripe peaches and sweet cream.
Service was kind and the gentleman allowed us a few tastings before ordering. 1 scoop on a sugar cone + 2 scoops in a bowl = a little over $10 bucks.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 10, 2014
How I heard of this place: We walked by...and every time I questioned why we weren't stopping. This time, we didn't stop.
Type of cuisine: A cafe with the works: beautiful, shiny espresso machines, fresh baked cookies, brownies, blondies, not to mention the sale of locally sourced, organic milk and bottled beverages.
"Our vision consists of a multi-unit food and beverage concept providing gourmet desserts and beverages to consumers at a fair price. Our mission is to offer the freshest ingredients sourced from local markets and to build relationships with our customers by offering personalized, efficient and consistent service.

All day, we serve breakfast foods and pastries, freshly made cookies and brownies and specialty bars along side an array of dazzling hot and cold beverages from our Espresso Bar.
Our ice cream provided by L&L Bakeries has been around for over 25 years and has earned mentions in the Washington Post as well as features in the ZAGAT guide. Our ice cream is 100% made with all natural ingredients and lots of love."
Ambiance: The bright interior is noticeable amidst the darkness outside. The fluorescent lights attracted us immediately, and our path could no longer be obscured nor obstructed. We entered the small shop, seating enough for a handful, maybe a dozen. Our party of six adults and 7-month old child filled the space. A few regulars kept their seats at the bar, directly ahead of the espresso bar. Music played, calmly in the background, as Larry, himself, invited us to sample flavor after flavor of creative ice cream options.
What I ordered: After sampling a number of inventive options, the two I decided upon were the Decadence & Cookie Dough. Decadence for its ooey gooey white chocolate and cocoa swirl and the Cookie Dough for its homemade chocolate chip cookie dough ($5 per medium cup of two scoops).
What I loved: Cookie dough! I also thoroughly enjoyed the sweetness and creamy, caramelly delectability of the Butter Pecan I sampled.
Why I loved it: It is always a treat to meet, converse with and enjoy the company of the owner and ice-cream-maker at any mom & pop shop. That, in conjunction with smooth, creamy, and innovative flavor profiles at Larry's, make this an ice cream shop worth a return visit!
Cost: Average ($4-$6 per cup of ice cream)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
