Louie Wingz & Catfish

I took my wife out to dinner at Louie's on a Friday at 5:45 pm. This place is right in the middle of the university campus. Their main business is take out, but they do have a couple of tables inside that you can use to eat there.

We placed our order and were told that it would take about 20-25 minutes. We grabbed a table, one of three in the building and we were the only people there. While we were waiting for our food, there was a constant flow of people coming there to pick up orders.

After a while, approximately 15 minutes, we were served our food. I ordered the chicken sandwich, and my wife ordered the catfish. Both of our meals were served in to go boxes. Both meals were served with French fries.

Everything looked crispy and well cooked. The fries had a seasoning powder on them, and it was very tasty. I'm not sure what it was, but it was good.

The first thing I noticed about my sandwich is that the piece of chicken was HUGE. This is not a small sandwich. The sandwich was very flavorful, very crispy, and well-seasoned. The bun they used was soft and was a perfect complement to the chicken. Everything about this sandwich was top notch, it could hold its own to any other on the market that I have tried.

My wife's fish was cooked perfectly, she received four large pieces of fish. She could only eat half before she was finished.

Overall, this was a great meal, though it was not cheap, it was not expensive either. I will definitely be back.

I've been coming here for while now. It's always been pretty laid back when you come in. Really Good prices. great for if your hungry or just really want some chicken compared to other places.
They have really good chicken and really good deals.

Every time I've gone the food gets even better honestly.
You get your moneys worth then some.

Ordered a couple dinners for carry out from this place on/near the Valpo campus.

We ordered the fried catfish and perch dinners with chicken wings, fries, coleslaw, tartar and bbq sauces. Each came with a can of pop and a couple hush puppies.

Not surprisingly, the real stars of the show here are the fried catfish and the chicken wings. The catfish breading is well seasoned, the fish cooked perfectly, and it's just plain tasty. Be sure to get extra tartar with their fish dinners. The tartar sauce is pretty decent.

The chicken wings also benefited from a wonderful light and flavorful breading. It seems they count their chicken wings by part, so one actual chicken wing is counted as two wings (the "leg" part and the "wing" part like how Buffalo wings are counted). Not wrong, but I was kind of expecting 3 entire chicken wings.

The fried perch was alright, but the catfish outshined it so much that the perch paled in comparison.

The hush puppies were also a nice treat. Great seasoning and cooked perfectly.

Each dinner came with fries, which were fine. Their mild bbq sauce is great. We used it for both the fries and the wings. Their hot bbq sauce was a little too spicy for me.

The girl working the front counter was friendly and cheerful. Love that.

We will definitely return for that catfish!

Closed going to be a Mexican food shop not sure when they will open stopped by 6/20/23

As a student at Valparaiso University, I heard so many other students rave about Louie's. I had to put it on my list. Louie's is definitely a dive. The building is old with Christmas lights that makes it stick out on a dark street on the edge of Valparaiso University. But the inside looks a lot brighter and remodeled. You order at the counter and there is sports team memorabilia to the side.

I went with 6 wings, fries, and slaw and a water. No tab water here, it is all bottled. On Wednesdays, wings are on sale for I think 79 cents. Can't remember but they are on sale. Chicken sandwiches are on sale on Tuesdays.

Anyway, my wings were definitely fried. They were crispy and had a homestyle make to them. But what really made the wings really good was the sauce that came with it. The sauce was like a vinegar-honey base BBQ sauce. The fries went well with the sauce but the fries were the frozen variety.
I ordered slaw for 75 cents and this was terrific slaw. It was creamy and diced fine.

I really wanted to try some of the desserts they had but it was late so I passed dessert.

I know why college students love Louie's. A killer sauce with fried wings and terrific slaw will make me come back too!

I've only ordered three times, on of those times I dined in.
Every time the food greatly exceeded my expectations on all levels: seasoning, temperature and volume of food. You really can't go wrong here.

Let me just be honest about this place...BLACK OWNED & OPERATED!!! Second time visiting only because of the distance we live from them. If we were closer, I'd probably, no deeeffffinitely be eating there every other day! lol...their food is ridiculously good! Fried catfish cooked & seasoned to perfection as well as the perch, chicken wings, hush puppies (THOSE ARE BEST I'VE HAD) and their chicken sandwich! The chicken sandwich is made for either a GROWN MAN to consume or two people to share...that sandwich is ordered and eaten by me!!! I got louie's delivered a couple of times during the stay home order and I'm already craving more. The chicken sandwich is tasty and you don't feel terrible after eating it. The wings.. wow! I got them on the 50 cent wing night and so they were the smaller wings and they were fantastic. They put some kind of salty seasoning on top that is delicious. Can't beat the price for the quality of food that they are cooking!
