The Stair Repair Experts. We specialize in wood stair restoration and repair. Often we repair or replace stairs FROM ABOVE with no demolition to the ceiling below. Our work is usually performed in an occupied home leaving the stairs passable for the overnights throughout the job. We get the squeaks out. We perform repairs to existing wood railings, with in-house baluster duplication, as well as installation of new railings. We also enjoy a fine reputation for our design/build cabinetry

We called Marty Anderson & Associates because the stairs in our circa 1880s home had finally reached the end of their natural life. It was the final part of our renovation that we'd kind of been putting off because of the difficulty of finding a reliable carpenter specializing in stairs, and the sheer scope of the work: all the treads were cracked and creaky, and the handrail was dangerously loose and wobbly, so all three flights of treads and risers needed to be replaced. His carpentry team always arrived every morning on time, were pleasant, respectful of my space and cleaned up at the end of every day. When a few issues arose that awkward spaces - or years of DIY "repairs" created - Marty and team preempted them and suggested smart solutions. The cost was fair and well worth it. The results speak for themselves; the difference that stairs that don't creak and a firm hand rail makes is incredible. We would recommend Marty unreservedly.

Marty and his crew did two stairs in our 1893 home in summer 2019 and two years on they are solid and beautiful despite both having irregular curves and everything that would seem to make the job difficult. Their crew was efficient and professional.
We had pine installed to match our hardwood floors, but they were ready with other options if we had wanted them.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alma M.New York, NY081Jan 28, 2021
Marty and his crew work miracles!! We had a whole step collapse in our home just a few months after moving in. We reached out to a few people and the responses and suggestions for repair scared me... then I met Marty. He was calm and professional and knew exactly how to restore the stairs on our 90+ year old home. He was also very fair and honest about what needed to be done. He gives it to you straight and I really appreciated that. Trust was built from the very start.
We ended up updating the entire staircase to ensure that we had no issues in the future. Our stairs feel extremely secure and safe now and I am certain that we will make it another 90 years at a minimum.
In addition to being extremely good at what he does, Marty has an amazing crew. We have had a few people in and out since we moved in to make repairs in our home. Marty's team was by far the most professional. They were here on time everyday and really focused on getting the job done well. They were respectful of our home and made sure the place was clean each day. They were also extremely polite and friendly. This was welcomed given that they were here for a few days while we were also working from home. I should also add that everybody was COVID cautious!
Overall, you cannot go wrong with Marty. He was highly recommended and I completely understand why. An experience that started with much dread turned out to be great in the end. I'm so glad that I found this team!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I cannot rave enough about Marty Anderson and Associates! They did an incredible job on redoing our kitchen pantry and bedroom closet. Marty responded to my initial inquiry the same day I reached out and came up with a smart, reasonable plan to transform both spaces. The job was completed within a few weeks and the crew was professional, hardworking, and left our place spotless! Marty's work is thorough and creative and gave me every confidence that we'll be set for years to come!

After Marty posted a response to my review on 12/26 he private messaged me via Yelp as well, telling me I was not in his service area, presumably bc my Yelp location says New York area.
Yet, in my two text messages to his personal cell phone for Marty Anderson and Associates, one voicemail and another phone call from my husband, all 4 messages clearly indicated Bergen County, Oradell. I sent a screen shot to him as proof on 12/26 since his posted review claimed otherwise, as though that were reason enough not to return a potential client's inquiry. Or four.
Unsure why you would come clean over private message, but not publicly and then choose to update your review a day later (12/27) with false information and a combative attitude.
If you drop the ball and don't return repeated inquiries and are called out here because of it, apologize here, and call -- you have the number. Or, after being tipped off to it here, call and explain and move forward. Both ways you mend your fence and receive an updated positive review and do the right thing.
We reached out four times, in three ways.
With ALL pertinent info, in your service area and made that clear.
And we were never contacted.
Not good business practice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

We are well known for our quality work and business practices as demonstrated by many reviews here. Unfortunately, there are people willing to write things like "...utterly confused by the positive reviews" who know next to nothing about our company, and such a comment is IMO rather inappropriate and uncalled for. However, it looks like there appears to be some confusion here. I am sorry to disappoint you, but based on your stated location we do not currently work in 4 of the 5 boroughs of NYC (other than Manhattan if the project is a good fit). We service primarily northern New Jersey, with a main emphasis on Hudson County, NJ and often when things are busy are not able to service far outside this area due to high demand locally. If there is anything else we can do to be of help please let us know, we do sometimes travel a significant distance for a project, but on some occasions we can get quite busy. However, if possible we will do our best to be of help. Also, please check our other reviews (especially the ones that yelp downplays and does not list on the first screen) for a more balanced perspective of our work.
Dec 1, 2019Previous reviewI'm utterly confused by the positive reviews. We work with many great contractors who use us as references for their businesses; we're not new to speciality/craftsman vendors. We also participate in various historic restoration communities.
Left an initial voicemail with details. Followed up with 2 texts, one week apart, as encouraged by website to reach out via text. Looks as though the texts are to Marty's personal cell, as well. Heard nothing whatsoever.
Was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but after two texts to his personal cell, a week apart with no acknowledgment I wasn't optimistic.... still my husband decided to give it a try, he also called, left a separate voice mail, three weeks later. Crickets.
Disappointing not only for us but for our community as their are many seeking historic staircase restoration. - Sharon K.Brooklyn, NY10826830Mar 26, 2021
It was an effort to get in touch with Marty as he is very busy. However, once I did, I never had a problem getting in touch with him again throughout the project. Marty and his team were able to repair my stairs and we ended up doing the whole staircase. It looks beautiful and is a huge difference from what we had before. The team did a great job and completed the project on a timely basis and also accommodating my schedule. Marty made everything really easy and I was able to manage everything remotely. Would definitely recommend.

Marty and his team are true professionals. We had to rebuild our entire staircase for our 100+ year home. Marty and his team were efficient and clean and the quality of the work was superior. Our staircase looks and feels brand new. His pricing was fair and his team went the extra mile to work around nuances of the house. Would highly recommend!

After a horrible experience with a contractor that took my money and ran, I was forced to become the general contractor for my home's renovation. A friend recommended that I use Marty Anderson and Associates for the installation of the railing system. It took a couple of tries to get a call back. Don't give up. Marty's a busy guy and well worth the wait. Once you see his work, you'll understand why he's so busy. From the onset, I found Marty to be honest and straightforward. In his bid Marty detailed all aspects of the job, he was clear as to when he expected payments and changes were discussed clearly and options were explored. Marty's guys were wonderful to work with. Their craftsmanship is impeccable. My stairs are PERFECT!! Thank you guys.

Thanks Mabel! It was so nice working with you! All readers should scroll down to my reviews listed "not reccommended" and click down there as well to see even more positive feedback which yilp has chosen to downplay! I can't say enough about the expertise and professionalism I experienced in working with Marty and his carpenter Joe. We have a beautiful old staircase that was falling apart and Marty knew just how to rehab it to make it safe but maintain all of it's beautiful character. He removed all of the spindles, replaced the treads and risers, re-inserted the spindles, and stabilized our wobbly wrap-around banister. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, responsive, and respectful. Posting photos as well - a great job all around!

Marty, Henry and their team created a custom "L" shaped bookcase for our condo in Hoboken and we could not be happier with the result. Marty and Henry met with us on several occasions prior to beginning work on the bookcase to discuss the design with us. They were extremely knowledgeable and provided several design suggestions (both aesthetic and functional) that were incorporated into the final design. Installation went very smoothly and was completed in a single day. Everyone was responsive and enjoyable to work with, and the final product is gorgeous. We would absolutely work with them again.
