Michikusa was an exceptional experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor was traditional yet modern, and the soft lighting created a cozy and intimate setting.
But the real star of the show was the food. The spicy miso katsu ramen was out of this world. The spider roll was better than expected. The tempura sabo was just as expected. There were two shrimp and three vegatables, very perfectly battered. The sabo noodles came in a miso soup and was very hot when served. Everything I tried was absolutely delicious.
The service was impeccable as well. Fast and accurate.
Overall, I would highly recommend. 5 starsHelpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 10, 2023
This was my first time trying this restaurant. I heard great reviews from my friends saying their food was really good so I was excited to try. We got sat in there back private room which was nice. All the food was really delicious and super flavorful. The only downside I would say is the wait time to get everything. But the food is worth going back for.

I have seen the place numerous times and decided to go in with a couple of my Japanese coworkers. I am a huge fan of spicy miso and miso ramen. The miso ramen was full of flavor. I didn't try anything else but I would recommend

We visited as a family of 9 for the first time based on some friends' recommendations and are thoroughly disappointed, especially since we had family from out of town.
The service was definitely less than par, closer to a 1-2 out of 5. The restaurant was only a quarter full with lots of empty tables when we arrived. They were unwilling to move the tables together and said we could only be seated together if we were in their private room and said it would cost us an additional $30. We should've clued in at that point and left but made the mistake of staying. The room was in the back of the restaurant across from the bathrooms and was very small. They also gave us 2 menus to share for our entire group. Definitely don't recommend this place if you have more than 4 people in your group!!!
The food was ok (3 out of 5). Took a long time to be served and the flavor was average. Although we ordered individual rolls, they served it all on one single platter... Which normally wouldn't be a problem except that the private room they put us in was so long and narrow, that it made it difficult to share off of one plate.
We will not be coming back. Too many better places to go in Lexington.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - George The Croc I.Johnston, IA25378May 9, 2023
Authentic Japanese place, I saw some other Japanese people eating her too when I sat down. I got salmon with rice which was crispy and not dry. I enjoyed it overall. I saw other things on the menu other "Japanese" esque places may not offer so if your wanting to try something besides just California rolls this might be a good place to try out.
They sat me at the bar and the older chef looked so serious I felt bad if I took out George so I didn't get to take any pics with him this time. But if he was out he would say chomp chomp cho...out of 3 chomps!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 7, 2022
Michikusa has an excellent menu! I feel like it's very authentic Japanese food, with even a home style kind of feel. I came here with my family, and we all had ordered their delicious dishes.
Unfortunately, the service was subpar. We waited a long time for our drinks, we were charged for a drink we ordered and never received, and the server took a very long to take our order even though were ready. The food was worth the wait, but be forewarned you'll wait a long time.
I would probably come back again, but I also feel like it may be best to get take out rather than come in.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jenny K.Georgetown, KY021Jan 11, 2024
Hiro is the best sushi chef in Lexington and this has been true for over 20 years. He was at Tomo for most of the time it was open until he opened Michikusa. His sushi is PERFECT, as is the sashimi and noodle bowls. You just can't go wrong at this place. It's a hidden gem off of Richmond Road. We don't eat sushi any other place any more because no one can top him. Service is wonderful as is the ambiance. Book a reservation because he gets busy!

First time at Michikusa. Cute little place. Ordered a lunch special that came with soup or salad. Selected the salad, cold and crisp. The special was beautifully presented, with 4 pieces of sushi and a roll of your choice. Salmon for me. There was a little something extra, a piece with salmon eggs. There were also two additional pieces of tofu sushi. Excellent! A thoroughly enjoyable lunch. A very gracious server.

PSA: Food is decent. But they automatically charge you an 18% "To Go Service Charge" - for picking up your own to-go food- HUH?! That's a bit ridiculous. They don't disclose this service charge to you before you order nor on their website either... now you know.
