I will say that the work they did to take care of the water damage in our finished basement was timely and thorough.
However, their business practices leave much to be desired. The first price I was quoted for the service was retracted as soon as I mentioned that I will get a second estimate for my peace of mind. All of a sudden, we agreed on a price that was 1/3 less. I don't appreciate the attempt at price gouging. Secondly, I was told "we will do it all". This was misleading as I learned afterwards that we were on our own for all the work needed to repair the baseboards, carpet tucking, paint, new bathroom vanity, etc. What's worse is the poor communication and the many loose ends that they had no intention of taking care of. The vanity was disposed of (for water damage) without my knowledge. When the drying equipment was picked up, the person that came had no clue about it. But he did assure me that I would get a call the next week about the reconstruction portion of the work. That never happened. When I called (at least 4 times) to obtain clarification on where to go from here, I had to leave messages and my calls were not returned. However, they did call for their money less than 2 business days after we received their itemized bill in the mail. I later learned that the "reconstruction guys" are not with their company and they had nothing to do with it. Needless to say, I called someone else on my own.
So long story short, they can repair water damage but I would not work with them again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

My name is Michael and I am the general manager at Midwest Flood Restoration. I have reviewed this file and as much as I do not like anyone having a bad experience with our company these are the facts that transpired. I arrived at your home on 8/16/16 and assessed the situation at hand and there was a considerable amount of water damage in your home that affected your utility room, main basement area and bathroom. There were a couple of other rooms that were not affected so therefore we did not have to do anything in those rooms. I proceeded to explain the process that our firm would be adhering to in order to properly mitigate the water damage. This included moving of contents, extraction of residual water, floating the carpet, sanitizing, loosening the baseboards, and also removal of the vanity which if damaged beyond repair would be removed and discarded due to warping. We would then insert turbo air movers and dehumidifiers in order to properly dry the structure. We agreed upon this scope of work. We then discussed the price that our firm would charge to preform the service. I gave you a quote of 2,000.00 - 3,000.00 dollars due to the fact homes can take anywhere from 3 to 5 days to dry out depending on moisture levels in the building materials that are affected. The reason for a thousand dollar variance in the price is due to the fact that each water mitigation job is different and have many variables. Some homes can take longer than others to dry and any restoration company that you use will charge per day for each piece of equipment. In addition our firm does not make up our own pricing schedule. We utilize a software called Xactimate which is the same software that every insurance company and any reputable restoration company uses. That being said at this time you told me you would like a firm bid and maybe wanted to look elsewhere. At that point is when I told you that our firm would agree on 2,000.00 dollars for the project and that is what you were billed. Later that day you called me and asked about reconstruction services and I gave you the information for the company that we utilize for those types of service. In closing I would like to add that our company adhered to the job scope and price which we both discussed on 8/16/16. I do not know of anything else that I could have done to make a bad situation like your house flooding any better.

I would avoid at all costs. The work they did to clean up the sewer overflow in my basement was good, however their business practices are severely flawed.
When submitting insurance claims, restoration companies like Midwest know what the standard guidelines are in terms of what equipment is necessary for different levels of damage and the size of the space. Knowing that I was submitting an insurance claim, they loaded my basement with an excessive, unnecessary equipment, which ran the bill up very fast. The measurements to determine what equipment to use weren't even done until they came to pick up the equipment after everything dried...
After receiving the bill, I compared what my insurance company quoted for the clean up line by line with Midwest's bill. I sent the comparison over and after some argument, I ended up agreeing to pay 1/3 less than the original bill.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

My name is Michael and I am the general manage at Midwest Flood Restoration. I have reviewed your file and my findings are as follows. I spoke with you on 8/16/16 and at that time St. Louis had experienced a significant rain event and our company performed 48 separate claims in a two-week period. When I spoke with you on the phone you told me you had hired another restoration company to perform the mitigation service and they had failed to show up for the last two days. I then set an appointment with you for the service to be performed at your property the following morning. The following morning while we were speaking I had my manager measure your basement and I put a quote together for you which included removal of sewage water, removal of contents, power washing, sanitizing, and then drying of your basement. I then gave you a quote of 4,000.00 - 5,000.00 dollars to perform the work. The adjuster called while we were sitting at your kitchen table and explained that you had a cap of 5,000.00. Once you were off the phone you told me to proceed with the work and signed a contract for the work to be performed, then after the work was completed you signed a completion certificate stating you were happy with the work that our company provided. We sent you and invoice for the work performed which I reduced to 4,500.00 to fit the quote that I gave you even know the bill was really 5,280.00. Two weeks later you sent us the comparative bid from the insurance company which was flawed and missing several components that are vital in cleaning up raw sewage when it enters your home. Our firm performs work in accordance with the IICRC guidelines which is the governing body that water mitigation companies are supposed to adhere to. Many insurance companies do not stick to these guidelines in order to keep cost down. You then called me upset that the insurance company price was 3,390.00 which was less than I quoted you. I tried to explain that they did not include key elements that were needed to properly mitigate the situation and that is why the price was different. To try and help you out I agreed for you to pay only 3,000.00 which is even less than your insurance companies quote and was 2,280.00 less than we should have charged you to begin with. I feel bad that you did not have your home properly insured for a sewage backup, but if I were you I would be mad at your insurance agent for not properly insuring your home not the person that helped you clean it up at such a significant discount. I do not know what more you want than over a 40% discount and a job well done.

I wish there was an option for negative stars. When our sewage backed up in our basemen on Christmas Eve, the plumber asked Midwest Flood Restoration to contact us. Mike Cahill told my husband he would bring equipment to clean the air and the first day would be free. We were unhappy with the equipment and knew of another company, so we asked Midwest to pick up their equipment after the first day. Which they did, so no charge to us, right? WRONG! Not only did they submit a bill to the insurance company for 3 days of service, they charged us for emergency service. The equipment was in my home the day of 12/29 only. Emergency? Hardly.
I have called Mike Cahill twice to resolve this matter, and he refuses to return my phone call. And today I open my mail and the original bill for $1079 has grown to $4,919 and he is threatening collections and legal action.
I would not recommend this nightmare of a company to my worst enemy. Take your business elsewhere or you will regret it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

My name is Michael and I am the general manager at Midwest Flood Restoration. I did not see this review until December 2016 otherwise I would have responded immediately. I looked this file up and the following is our response. The air scrubber was dropped off on 12/30/14 and the contract and equipment tracker was signed and our company was to perform the work. They decided not to use us so we picked up the equipment the next day. There was a billing mishap and was corrected as soon as I was aware of it. We settled this claim with the insurance company for the air scrubber and service call which was $443.25. I tried numerous times to contact the owner, but I received no response. We only billed for the service that we provided and negotiated with the insurance company to settle this claim with no cost to the customer.
