The food is delicious but order if you have time to wait. You can't call ahead. At least I haven't been able to. So you can walk in order and then sit your car for an hour or run an hour errand then pick up your order.

The food can be a little salty but it's soul food. What do you expect? But the smothered pork chops are tender and flavorful. All the sides are delicious. Desserts go quickly. Get there early.

Just moved to the area and found this place on Yelp. Great food...expensive, but very good.

First of all I heard about this place from a relative I'm new to the Indiana area so I finally came to try me and my fiancé got the rib tip and catfish dinner I had the Mac n cheese smothered cabbage and dressing wit corn muffin n extra side of Lima beans he had the spaghetti dressing let me just say this food was soooooooo good it took me back to my going to big ma house for Sunday dinner n I'm from down south in Atlanta I ain't had no good soul food since moving but ooooh I found my new place thank you sooo much n u can tell the food is cooked with love

Really good food for a good value. You can taste the made from scratch family recipes. I would definitely eat here again.

So glad I finally had a chance to visit this kitchen! I ordered the perch and wing combo; along with a bunch of the sides. Let me start by saying the chicken was absolutely delicious and the star of the meal. The wings were a nice size and seasoned to perfection. They tasted better than Harolds and Sharks! The perch was also good.
The sides I ordered were: collard greens, mac and cheese, dressing, spaghetti, yams and peach cobbler. The spaghetti was a hit! Mac, peach cobbler and yams were good. My dressing was very over-seasoned and missing cranberry sauce.
All and all this place is a definitely a winner! The people there were friendly and went above and beyond to assist me. Mississippi Boys is definitely worth a try! Food is DELICIOUS!

The food here is fantastic. The neighborhood they are in is lucky to have them. My brother, sister in-law and I all had the rib tips, fried chicken, collard greens, black eye peas, macaroni and cheese and peach cobbler. Everything was cooked right and seasoned very well. Perfect comfort food. We all were very happy to find a new carry out restaurant. It's a small business with little signage, but the food is what matters and they do it right. I'm guessing we are going back next weekend

my first time going today (Sunday) VERY PLEASED with this place ...everyone has there style of cooking... so, (all people cook 'soul food'' different) the dinners are $15 bucks , and you get 3 sides , the food here is very Good, decent, the baked turkey wings are huge and good, the mac and cheese is good, the corn bread dressing is very Good flavor, the candied yams are good , but the main attraction is the Peach Cobbler , is VERY GOOD ! fresh peaches, juicy, very flavorful, and lots of crust I like , So I give this place 5 stars. Merrillville, don't have many 'Soul Food' restaurants , but 'Mississippi Boy' Thank you for coming to Merrillville , Indiana

Ok let's start from the beginning. Great customer service. Parking on street was comfortable, it was right in front of restaurant. The lady was very knowledgeable of the food menu. All dinners are about $15.00 and come with 3sides. I tried the Cajun fried turkey leg/wing with Mac&cheese, string beans and yams. Turkey was good. Macaroni an cheese was ok I had better. It was edible but could use some flavor. The other sides were mediocre. Side of peach cobbler for dessert was 2stars. It was cold like it was in the freezer. The wait was almost a hour. Horrible timing. They said 20min. When I got home my food was kind of cold The hours for business are only on weekend. Overall I had a ok experience but Mississippi Southern Restaurant may not be my 1st pick. 3star restaurant NOT WORTH THE WAIT.

Everyone was talking about this place, so I decided to check it out. Slow service, very hot in there with a gigantic fan blowing hot air, I gave 2 stars instead of one because the baked turkey wings were seasoned to perfection. However, the sides were HORRIBLE!!! Worst mac and cheese I have ever tasted, did not eat it, yams were not sweet. Won't go back.
