Received an estimate for air conditioner repair for $3800. Paid the estimate and had the work done. Then they came back a month later and said I owe an additional $400. No one told me at the time of service that the estimate was incorrect, no one called to explain to me why it was different and that they would be sending me an additional bill, no one could explain when I called them why a month later they said I owed more money, when no one could explain it the they said someone from accounting would call me back. It's been over a week and still no call from accounting. Fraudulent company looking to steal from people.

I apologize if there was any miscommunication about the billings. Without more information I cannot say specifically what happened in your case but I sounds like the $400 may have been from the initial visit. Our estimates only include the price for that work, we do not roll any diagnostics into the estimate rather leaving it as its own independent invoice. All invoices will have details on them to what they are for. You can reach me at tmutz@moncriefair.com and forward me your invoice and I will be happy to explain the charges and handle any corrections.

It has been 12 years since we began using Moncrief. We found them in 2010 when one of our compressors blew up. They were among several companies we called for quotes. Their customer service and their reasonable pricing sealed the deal. We eventually went on their annual maintenance plan.
The staff always reaches out each 6 months for inspection and cleaning. Though there have been some fill-in personnel, our primary technician is Lionel, who is a truly nice man and very attentive to our needs. When our upstairs heater went out a few weeks ago, I gave Moncrief a call, and Lionel was calling me back within just a few hours, and he was at the house that afternoon.
Our upstairs furnace was almost 25 years old, and the parts needed were no longer available. The folks with Moncrief had an extremely quick turnaround giving us a quote for replacement and installation. Today, right at our scheduled time (we have learned that being on time is pretty much assured with Moncrief), the installers arrived and quickly got to work. They covered all the flooring to keep things clean and were finished in about 7 hours. I was unloading groceries as they finished up, and they even asked if they could give me a hand bringing the groceries in!! Customer service is superb with Moncrief.
I've referred several friends to Moncrief, and not one has been disappointed with their service. If you are in need of assistance with heating and/or A/C, don't even bother shopping around. Just call Moncrief. You will be in good hands. We have twelve years of great service to back up that claim!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Aug 12, 2010Previous reviewOur outside compressor literally blew up during the 90+ heatwave we had experienced this summer. We received a quote from the company we had used in the past but felt it was too high. I searched on the internet, and based on the reviews I had read here on yelp, I gave Moncrief a call.
Their service from the initial phone call all the way through till final billing could not have been more professional and courteous. It is like dealing with an old school customer oriented business.
The phone personnel were very curteous. As promised, they had someone out THAT day to inspect and give a quote on replacement. The technician who arrived was extremely thorough and was able to answer all my numerous questions without acting put out in any way. The quote to replace and upgrade from the unit we previously had came in $3000 less that the quote from their competitor.
They set up the date to have the service completed. They installed a new compressor, coil, and three new return vents all within a matter of hours. They were cureous, very clean, and very quick.
After the installation, there was a tiny problem with the thermostat. When I called, they were back out within 30 minutes to correct it. The new unit has been working terrifically since.
After the technicians were completed at the house, I received TWO follow up calls from one of their supervisors who was making sure everything was ok. How many companies do follow up calls in today's market place??!
I would highly recommend Moncrief to anyone who is in need of professional, trained and courteous service. I couldn't be more thrilled with their work. - Bradley C.Atlanta, GA02Nov 29, 2023
Horrible horrible horrible. Moncreif came to my home and installed a thermostat that I provided. the technician was there an hour and 9 minutes, but I was charged two hours of labor. I reported them to the Georgia State Attorney General's office. After charging me almost $800 to install the thermostat, it would not even work properly! They charged me another $179 to come back out and try to fix it. Ultimately, they could not fix it and sent a proposal for another $649 to install a completely different thermostat. these people are scammers. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Mr. Creel, I am sorry about your experience with Moncrief. The service manager and myself have reviewed your account and reached out to you twice via email and left you a message on your cell. We would like to discuss this further over the phone to get some more details but have not heard back from you. Based off our trucks GPS our technician arrived at your house at 9:34am and left at 11:55am which is 2 hours and 21 minutes. During that time we found a low voltage fuse blown and he replaced it. When he checked for shorts with the new fuse it blew again when the Y was energized so he replaced it again. The system then came on and ran normally. He then went to the roof and inspected the exposed wiring and internal wiring, no faults were found. He went back to thermostat and ran heat pump w/ auxiliary heat, fuse didn’t blow. The tech did not find a reason for the fuse to blow again and all functions of the system were working properly at that time. When we came out the second time for the heat not working it was noted the existing thermostat does not have Aux(Emergency) Heat mode, but the system is a Heat Pump with Heat Strips for Auxiliary Heat. It appeared that someone else had replaced the thermostat since our last visit. At that time the tech was able to run Heat Pump only & with Heat Strips, and Heat Strips only. The thermostat turns on Heat Strips, without Heat Pump. This thermostat will run AC in cooling mode, and cycles off normally. Our technician searched online for any guides to setting up this thermostat, but none were available. Our tech couldn’t reach you to get approval to replace thermostat so we sent an estimate over to you for replacing it. We do not have any records, notes, or pictures of replacing your thermostat on our first visit there. We would love to speak with you over the phone regarding this if you could please return our calls to you at 404-350-2300. Or you can call Chris, our Service manager, at his cellphone number he left you a voice mail from to discuss further. We look forward to resolving this with you. Thank you! - Daria Davis - CSR Lead

We have used Moncrief for the past four years for our heating and cooling issues since relocating to Atlanta. They are always able to come out quickly if we have a problem. Martin, one of their technicians, is so very knowledgeable and is a really nice guy. We ask for him every six months for our semi annual check. With the crazy heat this past summer, and the anticipated cold winter, we are relying on them to keep our home comfortable.

Really disappointed in Moncrief. Paid for a summer tune up in June. No issues reported on my five year old system. One month later major system failure. Had to pay Moncrief $300.00 to diagnose the system. 30 minutes later the tech reports the issue and quotes a repair at $4800. Called another company out... they assessed system issue w/o a charge and quoted the repair at $3,000. Moncriefs techs were rude and spoke down to me. Their competitor who got the business were warm friendly and professional. They will also get my annual service moving forward versus Moncrief. Moncrief's first tech was a really nice guy.

I'm sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with us. It's frustrating when you trust a service provider and then encounter these issues. We try our best to maintain transparency and professionalism, especially when dealing with major repairs and customer service. We will use this opportunity to remind our people how important it is to always make taking care of our customers is our highest priority.

I've been a customer since 2014, when they found and diagnosed a coolant leak in my old AC unit. Instead of upselling a new unit, they fixed the issue, and their service was excellent. I added a service plan then and continue to renew annually. They show up when they say they will, and communication is excellent. Their service techs and personnel are professional and polite. I purchase my new AC and hot water heater from them and have been very pleased so far.

I've had a service plan on my HVAC unit since I moved into my home in 2005 and it's still up and running thanks to Moncrief. My A/C stopped working last night and they had it up and running this morning and plan has already paid for itself. Fast, courteous, and reliable. They are the best.

After having system checked by a friend who use to be in the business I called Moncrief. They where told by my boyfriend that I needed some Freon added to my system... this had already been determined/diagnosed. Moncrief sent 2 techs who seemed disinterested in just adding Freon. They told me they would have to do own diagnosis. Finally they came up with same conclusion.....75 minutes later they gave me the bill for adding one pound of Freon.....$492.00!!! That is outrageous!

I am sorry the reviewer feels that price is outrageous but I can assure you it is not. First of all we can not rely on the diagnostics of boyfriends, handymen or a guy they know that knows about AC's. Many customers think when their air isn't working that "it just needs some freon" when it can be dozens of other issues including just a dirty filter. You are paying us as the professional, so we need to make sure what we are doing is what is really needed. We charge the diagnostic charge ($97) for confirming what is wrong and what is needed. This particular property is a condo where the air conditioner is on a roof top requiring two technicians using multiple extension ladders to access the unit. This required more labor than our pricing accounts for but we did not charge for. We charge a standard price of $395 to add refrigerant up to 3 lbs. That price also includes labor and testing the system to confirm why it is low and to make sure no other problems. Again this is why we have to diagnose ourselves before doing any repairs. We quoted the price before doing the work so the work could have been declined. The price for the work that was rendered was more than fair and we stand by our pricing and the quality of work performed. We wish the reviewer the best with another service provider in the future.

This company consists of a bunch of liars & crooks. Can't trust the 5-star reviews. Basically, if you want deceitful, dishonest people working on your home, call this co. Some of us work hard & make an honest living, but not these folks. I've realized that they will lie, cheat, & steal from their customers. To think, I originally considered signing up for the service plan w/them. Be forewarned, they practice deceptive business tactics. I would've never booked an appointment if I knew they would charge $68 for every 15 minutes just for being on my property. This, btw, wasn't mentioned to me until the end of the appointment. The guy was there for about 1 hr 30 min, at most. So in addition to the $200 that it cost to come to my residence, I was billed the additional $68 rate for a total bill of nearly $500 for just being there 1hr 30min, without doing any actual labor. I was getting nowhere w/customer service. They said it was for "troubleshooting & discussing the next steps." A week later, I called in to pay my invoice, the 200 I felt obliged to pay. It was then explained to me that the 200 covers 1 hr and any additional 15 minutes is billed the 68 rate. Then how do you explain about $300 worth of charges for the additional 30 minutes? In actuality, I tried to reach the tech an hour into the appointment (I was at work). It's all time-stamped on my phone. Long story short, they will lie & say whatever they can to justify their deception & unscrupulous fees.

First and foremost, we apologize for any confusion regarding our pricing structure. It is our policy to be transparent about our charges, and we acknowledge that there appears to have been a misunderstanding in your case. When booking service for Condos we quote the service charge $199. We do not go into further pricing at booking because depending on what is required on site, there may be different rates used. We cannot go into every scenario when booking because it creates false expectations. Our technician communicated with the person who was at the condo that day about billing rates while working and with you over the phone. While We do feel what we charged was appropriate for the service we provided, we wrote off the labor charges at the customer's request so all they paid for was the Service Charge.

Save your money and call another HVAC company to work on your home. Moncrief's fee to visit your home is approximately $180 while there are plenty of HVAC competitors in Atlanta are less than $90.
I can speak to my personal experience. Moncrief came out to work on my HVAC unit. After looking at my unit, they recommended to clean my unit and change my filters. After paying $300, my average home temperature increased 5 degrees over the remainder of that day and the situation was worse. I called Moncrief to come back and check on my unit, only to be told they would not charge me extra if it was their mistake (or else charge the same $180 fee). After receiving a vague and unhelpful response to a situation directly correlated to their work on my home, I cancelled my free quote to replace my HVAC system via Moncrief.
I called another company, Guardian, and paid a mere $67 fee for them to inspect our entire system only to inform us that our refrigerant was low and due to the age of our system, paying $700 a pound to refill our system it was not worth the labor or time.
Overall, save $100+ and call another company that will identify the actual issue the first time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

We came over to address a complaint that the home's electric bills were high and if anything could be done to improve. For that we Charge $179 for travel and labor to assess the situation and make recommendations. We found the main problem was a very dirty condenser coil, also dirty filters and 3 supply vents closed off. We took out filters that customer said he would replace them we he got back. The customer was not home at the time of service. We opened all registers and cleaned condenser coil with cleaner and water. Refrigerant pressures high, adjusted refrigerant level operating as best it can at 26 years of age, temperature difference not as good as it should be but nothing else can be done. We recommended replacing the system. When the customer called back we made him aware that if the issues were from any of the work we did we would not charge. Our office tried to be as up front as possible and make the customer in this situation aware that if the issue is not related to the work we did, that there could be additional charges. The next company out came to the same recommendation but did not have to go through ruling out stopped up filters, closed vents and dirty coils. We did our best to improve the system's efficiency which is what we were asked to do.
