Q:
Appropriate for family celebration with 17 and 15 year old or is this more of an adult place?
A:
Totally appropriate. We went with the family (my kids are 19 and 16) and there were kids younger when we went (Saturday night). It was so much fun, for all ages 😊

This is an amazing experience that I feel everyone needs to do at least once in their life!
I went here for my birthday with my parents & hun. Make sure to look on their IG for a discount code, I got 40% off for all of us, what a steal!
Come early to grab a drink at the lobby, they serve a variety of beers & wines but no cocktails. Then they open up the grand dining hall & seat you at your assigned seat. The room is regal, gorgeous, & intimate & I feel like there was no bad seat. We had an incredibly delicious, fufilling 3 course meal! You get to choose your entree & I chose their prime rib which was a bit more fattier than I liked, but still good.
We came to see Derek Ostovani & he was incredible! His magic tricks were seriously unreal & so fun! He was interactive with the group & I felt like he included every single person which was super cool. & omg, he was so hilarious!
You seriously cannot find a better dinner & show place than this in San Diego so book your ticket now!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mar 5, 2024
4.5 stars - rounding up for great service and hospitality.
Arrived 15 minutes before the start time of 6:00pm on a Saturday evening. Everyone is welcomed to hang around the bar to hangout until doors to the main room is open. Seating occurred promptly at 6.
Upon walking in, the first of five courses was already set on the table - a crispy potato topped with ricotta spread and topped with prickly pear. Second course was a miso caesar salad, Third course is a lemon sorbet with raspberry puree as a palette cleanser. Fourth course is the main entree selected upon reservation - I opted for the prime rib which came fairly rare (not asked how you want it cooked, I assume for simplification purposes) accompanied with au jus, horseradish, mashed potatoes, carrots, and asparagus. Fifth course was an upside-down pineapple cake to close. The pineapple cake itself was very sweet but the flavors were divine. Dinner was about 1.5 hours total. Once the last course was cleaned up, the magic show began.
Our magician of the night was Anjo Sanchez who performed for about 45 minutes. Anjo was funny, personable and had such great energy throughout the performance. I will say I wish the dinner was shortened and the magic show was pushed to about an hour as the second half went very quick.
Restrooms was a bit of a hassle as you had to exit to the outside to get to the bathroom. There are two separate rooms available to use. Private parking lot in the back which is great but the spots are pretty tight.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Feb 19, 20241 check-in
Had reservations on Sunday 6pm. They only have one team per day Wednesday to Sunday. We were told to arrive approx around 5:45pm so we did. Thankfully they have a small private parking lot around the back of the building. It is one way so make sure you enter through Drury Ln. The parking spots are super packed and small so I wouldn't recommend bringing a huge truck.
Their bathroom is outside the side of the building. You will pass by it on your way from the parking lot to the front door (unless you walk around the outside of the building next to Drury Ln. Just take that small walkway directly from the parking lot to the center of the split building.)
Once you arrive, you can enjoy the bar in the waiting area or sit on the chairs placed to the left of the entrance to the dining hall and take some photos. Right at 6pm, they will open the doors and will take you to your pre-arranged seats. If you have made special changes to your meal due to dietary restrictions, it is important to sit at the seat they provide you (yes you pick your seats when reserving but between your own guests, don't move around if possible).
You will be treated with a 5 course meal. They have 2 servers that will quickly and kindly serve each meal. The two were amazing: nice, funny, quick, and attentive. Each course was delicious. They change the menu all the time so I won't go into details of each item but I finished them all clean. We have someone in our party that had to watch her sodium intake so all her food were prepared low sodium which she said were perfect and still delicious. The only thing was the prime rib was half fat. Literally just a big chunk of fat. And that was for all 5 of us in our party (one ordered scallop which was perfect). They were able to switch out one person's but that was the only one available. It was still ok since I was full just eating half of it (the edible part) and that part was juicy and cooked medium rare, just the way I like it.
The magic show begins after they clear out everyone's dessert. They don't rush you to eat and they give enough time to take some photos and also use the restroom in between but not to a point where you felt like just sitting and waiting. A perfectly timed dinner and show. The show was hilarious and also very shocking and entertaining. Still trying to find out how he did it! There was only one kid and everyone else were adults and the show was really fun for all. Not childish at all. I would highly recommend trying this place out.
It was the best birthday celebration.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Nov 18, 2023
My wife recently received a gift certificate for an evening of dining and magic at Mystique. We had not heard of this place, so after figuring out an evening that worked, we made reservations. Interesting note - when you make your reservations, you also choose your main course (the rest is somewhat of a fixed menu, with a few possible upgrades). Standard menu fare was prime rib (I'm definitely a carnivore, but do like my meat not to moo back at me), gourmet macaroni and cheese (there is simply no such thing), chicken cordon bleu, cioppino, and vegan. My wife agreed that the only choice that jumped out was the chicken cordon bleu, so I ordered that for both of us.
We arrived, and were seated quickly at the rather ostentatious dining room, where we ordered some wine to enjoy, and rather quickly, our first course arrived - a nicely arranged salad. We quickly moved through the courses, and when the main course arrived, both of us were pleasantly surprised - this was easily the best cordon bleu either one of us had ever had.
After dining, the featured magician began his show. I studied magic for about ten years, so know many of the subtle tricks that magicians use for misdirection. And I have to say, this guy was pretty good. I caught a few of his slight of hand moves, but quite a few, I was completely baffled. That's a good thing!
Overall, this was a great experience - and absolutely worth an evening of dining and magic.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Guy L.Oceanside, CA60214245Feb 5, 2024
Parking....on street or behind building. It's a little intimidating due to all the Towing Signs. But we found a spot.
Atmosphere...theyl place looks awesome couldn't have asked for more with a decor to get you more in the mood.
Food....outstanding. we all pre ordered the prime Rib. It's cooked medium rare so if you want it done more then you have to specify that ahead of time.
Magician....we had Tovar .It was a Sunday night. His slight of hand was incredible. He really did an awesome job ! His dialogue could stand some improvement though.
There were 6 of us.....tip was added onto the prepay. Total came out to about $200 per person. Pricey but fair I thought. We don't drink so I have no idea what the alcohol prices were. But I ordered a cup of coffee with desert and they charged me $5 plus change......after spending over $1200 there I'd think they could provide a free cup of coffee. This is the kinda thing that makes me walk away scratching my head going WTF !
Post Script: Terry, the business manager replies to me about this review essentially thanking me for the review but also stating that the $5 charge for coffee was to dissuade people from ordering it especially at a time when it was TIME FOR MAGIC ! LMAO.....1St of all when I ordered my Coffee....there was no mention about a CHARGE. So that argument fails. I'm not going to rehash the entire exchange here other than to publicly say.....You lost any future business from me or mine due to this exchange. I'd recommend someone e else with a little more common sense reply to your reviewers.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 13, 2023
Upon arrival we were greeted immediately at the bar by the waitress/hostess/and all things. She shared we'd be seated shortly. Bathroom was out and around the corner which was a bit inconvenient due to having to leave the venue if you have to use the bathroom.
The food was surprisingly delicious! I got the prime rib and was pleasantly surprised. So good and the desserts as well. Loved the timing on the dishes coming out.
The decor was so detailed with everything from the moment you walk in to the place Matt's on the table. Our magician was so cool and collected. He knew how to handle every personality in the audience. I was super shocked at how he was able to figure out my phone password. Great show and would definitely go back.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - 1267205Nov 1, 2023
Going here was a birthday gift from my husband. I had no clue. From the moment you enter the ambiance is so gothic, right up my alley. You check in and the bartender offers you a drink. Alcohol is additional. Drive was great. Always prompt and the "waitstaff" always in character and friendly. Food was really good. Would've given another star if we would've known we could take leftovers. Our plates were just taken, with mine having half of a prime rib left. The show was really great! Very intuitive and intriguing.

Shawn McMaster the magician is a must see! My wife and I had a terrific time at Mystique last night. Dinner was very good (better than we expected for a dinner/show venue). We had prime rib and scallops. Prime rib was perfectly cooked (but with a tad too much salt) and the Scallops were also perfectly cooked and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
After everyone else left, we hung out in the bar and chatted with Shawn who is an interesting guy. He even did a couple more card tricks for us which were simply amazing. We did the coupon offer they had around Christmas so cost was probably $125 per person. I'm not sure why other people are complaining about this, it's easy to spend that on a nice meal out without a show these days. Parking was easy for a Saturday night. All in all, we had a great/fun evening.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bryan M.Banning, CA4433250Jan 13, 2024
Service was great and the show and ambience was amazing but food was cold, lobster tail was small compared to times before and that was disappointing been a couple times before and had nothing but a fantastic experience all around will return but definitely make some adjustments to my meal selection.

A Stupendous Evening
Always had a love/hate relationship with my birthday. Every year hubby asks me what I want to do to celebrate and every year I say I don't know until the last minute when I decide I should do something to mark the occasion.
This year's last-minute decision was to go to Mystique, and we had an extremely incredible evening. Since the doors opened at 6pm, we feared rush hour traffic, so we left early and arrived 35 minutes before the doors opened. Consequently, we got to experience our own private magic card show by Erik Tait who's act is pure fun. He won First Place in IBM's Gold Cups Competition, and we saw why! He has a rare combination of outstanding chops and a truly smart comedy script.
Let me not forget the dinner. They offered several options for food including prime rib, scallops and vegetarian. Hubby had the scallops, and I got the vegetarian dish which was sauteed mushrooms in an outstanding mushroom gravy with mashed potatoes.
The actual magic show put on by Erik was one where you are constantly asking "how did he do that"!!!!
Service by the staff was top notch and even the décor was magical!!
This is a must-see experience for everyone.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
