My earliest association with poke bowls were those served on the island: Fresh fish bathed in some sort of flavor-enhancing substance and piled atop a mound of rice. They were perfect in their simplicity but Californians took things further. Here, the poke bowl was dressed up with all manner of condiments and the bowl elevated (in some cases) as a result. It's fair to say that I enjoy both versions if done well.

Off the Hook Poke Market, with its ubiquitous line down the block, does them well while lightly straddling the line between the two versions. There's a bit of topping on the poke and some options for what lies beneath, but neither are to a degree that has it looking anything like its California counterparts. The result though? Just as sublime.

The line moves quickly and unless you want to muck that up, you should know what you want before stepping up to the door to order. Once placed, turn-around of that order is momentary. Off the Hook Poke Market won an award in 2019, for "Hawaii's Best Seafood Restaurant" so if you're checking those things off a list here you go.

8 different poke are amongst your choices for a Regular Bowl ($11.99; add 50 cents for two different poke selections) and your base includes 3 different rice options as well as a lettuce option which I fully embraced. My 1/2 brown rice/1/2 lettuce bowl was topped with both Spicy Ahi. Another bowl purchased featured white rice topped with Cold Ginger Ahi and Hawaiian-Style Ahi. House-made soy sauce, available upon request, is a good addition.

Fully consumed, these bowls sated two hungry people through both lunch and dinner which is quite a value proposition.

With (currently, thanks Covid) no place to eat once you have your poke bowl in hand, you'd be well-advised to find a shade-producing tree nearby, plop down beneath it, and enjoy. Off the Hook has the perfect recipe for Poke and now you have the perfect recipe for enjoying that poke.

Sushi rice was hard and I found a fish bone in my poke bowl. I sent a private message to the business on IG, with no acknowledgment.

I went here based on all the positive reviews I read, unfortunately my experience was different.

I hope to come back someday to update this review.

My brother has deemed this place as his all time favorite poke place. And I can see why! From my previous review to now, their poke is very consistent in terms of freshness and flavor. The spicy ahi, omg, sooo good. I recently tried their cold ginger ahi which was the hype when this place first opened up, and I gotta say, it's really good. Definitely gives off the cold ginger chicken vibe that my family makes!

Since my last review, there was never a line but now, ALWAYS A LINE. Sometimes goes all the way to Starbucks. ugh. But fret not, the line goes by very quickly. Maybe 10 minute wait?

Definitely still one of my top favorite poke places on the island!

      Second time here.
Wanted to give their ginger scallion poke a try.
Did a split with half and half shoyu ahi.

      This one left me disappointed.

I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure that for the shoyu poke and the ginger scallion poke they don't use the fresher fish they have.
The shoyu and the sauces are used to mask the color of the fish.
It definitely wasn't as fresh as when I got the limu ahi (Hawaiian style)

      Pretty disappointed.
Don't think that I will go back any time soon.
If I need a poke fix I will drive 5 min down the road to Yamas and get their limu ahi. Always fresh there!

I heard the rave about this place prior to my Oahu trip and while I don't think it lives 100% up to the hype, it's pretty good! It's definitely more of a classic poke joint with a variety of flavors. If you're into a ton of toppings and leisurely ordering this may not be the place for you. Other than that, fantastic poke!

Cheaper, more, better. Looking for a poke place? This is IT.

Has a lot of unique sauce options at a great price. Tastes very fresh and sizes of poke are bigger than other stores.

They also has a good lb options if you have any rice or salad at home as well.

Island country market still reins supreme as the best poke spot on the island. This poke spot was good, but not the best. I got the regular combo with half rice/half salad. Be warned the wasabi is spicy

Hands down some of the best poke on the island!!! The first time we came here was 15 min before closing so there weren't too many poke options left, but the plus was that there was no wait. We were so blown away by the quality + seasoning of the poke that we were dying to come back again!

The fish is here suuuper fresh and candy-like. They also make their sauces in house and it . My absolute favorite thing here is the ginger ahi, which is the perfect combination of mashed ginger+scallions+fish. I have never had ginger ahi made like this anywhere else...it reminds me a lot of the sauce they serve with Haianese chicken (super simple yet fragrant flavors). Also a big fan of the shoyu!

Solid spot if you are looking for some great quality poke. Popped in on a Friday afternoon, luckily it wasn't packed. Got the regular white rice with spicy ahi and cold ginger poke. Spicy ahi is 5/5 and the cold ginger is 3/5. You can park behind the building or across Starbucks by Safeway. No indoor seating, so you will have to enjoy the food elsewhere! Make sure yall add extra tobiko and green onions.
