I kept seeing this spot pop up and had a few ppl recommend it. They have a sampler platter if you don't know what to choose. But I came here to try the ginger ahi. That was so good. It's like the ginger scallion sauce you use on Hainan chicken but on poke. And the poke quality was really good. There's no seating here as you order right in front of the door. The staff was very friendly and worked quickly. I would definitely come back again for the ginger ahi poke. I need someone to make me this on the mainland
Recommendation: Ginger ahi pokeHelpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Apr 24, 2024
Off the hook is a walk-up counter style poke market. Parking in the back of the building or along the residential streets.
I ordered a regular poke bowl ($18.99) with brown rice but should've just gotten a mini since I may have gotten the same amount of fish.
The shoyu ahi was a bit salty but it was tasty and fish quality was good. The spicy ahi had a nice mild flavor.
Overall a solid poke choice!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 18, 2024
First meal in hawaii!!
On the way to my friend's house we stopped for a quick meal and we grabbed some poke. I'll be honest, I was never someone to eat poke very often but over the last year or so, I have really been a fan of poke and find myself craving it fairly often.
I ordered a mini with Hawaiian style and spicy ahi with all the toppings and my goodness... was it good. So fresh and tasty with a flurry of flavors and textures. If this is any indication for my food journey in Hawaii, I will not be disappointedHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 941140Mar 16, 2024
A Take out only counter of fresh poke. They have different cuts of the tuna and sell it by weight.
Let me tell you, that wasabi poke was the star of the show for me if you like wasabi. The tuna was fresh. The flavors were on point. Probably one of the better poke spots I've tried in Oahu.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Mar 13, 2024
Heard a lot about Off the Hook from friends and social media so I knew I had to try it when I was in Hawaii! Finding park was super easy since Off the Hook was located across a McDonald and Safeway so you don't need to worry about finding parking at all!
My girlfriend and I waited in line at nine since we didn't know if there was going to be a line or anything so we did it just to be safe, workers there were super friendly and nice! They came out and greeted us before opening up and set up a couple tables and chairs for their customer to sit down and enjoy the poke! So I thought that was very nice of them.
Off the Hook specialize in mostly Ahi and they have one choice of Tako! I really love that they focus mainly on Ahi so you know what you are getting and not have to think about picking another fish type. The sampler is the best option if you are indecisive! You get to try each options they offer and it's the bang for your buck!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 11, 2024Updated review4 check-ins
Off the hook poke market continues to be my go-to poke place! It was the first time to come during non lunch hours, but I liked it since there was no queue lol!
I also noticed that they setup a couple of small tables outside to eat.
Happy to report that their poke still rocks as well as their friendly service, and it's worth coming from Waikiki area...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 31, 2021Previous reviewI would give them the solid 5-star rating.
After reading good reviews online, I wanted to visit...and glad I did!
I got there few minutes after they opened, and there were 5-6 people in front of me. While I was waiting in the line, I looked up the menu online to decide what to order. The staff are so friendly and polite - I was already a happy customer.
After careful consideration (lol), I ordered cold ginger and shoyu ahi on sushi rice with all toppings. I got the mini size and it was plenty for me!
It was so good and I was hooked...I will be back! :) - Jocelyn R.Honolulu, HI661346Apr 16, 2024
One of the best places to go for poke bowls! We miss our friend's shop which was closed after Covid in downtown Honolulu and this place did NOT disappoint!
They offered rice or salad and you could add whatever poke you wanted with free toppings which made the crunch and eating like a lot more enjoyable.
Only trouble is the parking and the long lines because it's that yummy and popular!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Kaipo T.Irvine, CA519161Apr 27, 2024
Favorite poke place on the island. Open later than some other poke places and the fish itself tastes amazing! Parking isn't too bad and chairs have been recently
added outside. Staff is always super friendly and kind. 11/10Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 1, 2024Updated review
In my recent visit I got my usual Hawaiian poke regular size. The price has gone up to $19.99 for regular and the line is still long. The poke was fresh and tasty.
However I have to emphasize that rice is as equally important for a rice bowl meal. Their rice is often cold and not steaming hot at all. To facilitate the transaction, maybe, they have pre-filled the containers with rice. However today I asked for them to give me the rice from the rice cooker and it was turned down. The woman at the counter simply felt the rice on her arm and claimed that it was still warm. I think it is OK when customers do not care if the rice is hot from the rice cooker but it is disappointing to turn down the customer request when specially asked.
The rice of course was lukewarm. It's really disappointing!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 30, 2020Previous reviewWhen you get there often times you'll see a line. But don't be discouraged because the line moves fast. I've tried various poke don on the island and this is hands down the best place! I especially recommend their tako poke. It's miso flavored and tastes very fresh!

It's been a while since I had something from Off The Hook. Ordered a mini poke with sushi rice and all the toppings. Got the Ginger Ahi and Tako poke.
Loved the tako poke. There wasn't enough of the ginger spread to cover all the fish so there were some pieces missing the flavor.
I was a bit disappointed with the sushi rice in that it was more like mochi rice. It was a bit on the moist side and stuck together.
Still love this place but prices have gone up and with the small setbacks noted in this review, have dropped my rating.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

So glad you enjoyed your experience and thank you so much for the review! We go to the auction every morning and serve same-day fresh ahi everyday, that’s why the ahi is so buttery, color is bright red and has no smell. We really appreciate you support!
Jul 1, 2023Previous reviewFirst thing I want to say is , that it's just not the same. The amount of fish you get is noticeably and visibly less than before. They weigh everything which can be good and/or bad. To me, it seems like there's more rice than fish. Before, I couldn't even see the rice when the fish was on it. My wife is saying that maybe they changed their container so it's more spread out... Well, as a consumer, I eat with my eyes first...
I got two 2-choice mini's with sushi rice. One was the Hawaiian and ginger poke; the other, Wasabi and Spicy Ahi. My first bite was the Hawaiian, which seemed to be lacking something... then ate the Ginger poke. That had more flavor but became overly salty after I finished eating it.
My wife had the Wasabi and Spicy Ahi. The first piece had a lot of tsuji (muscle fiber) and wasn't edible. The rest of the pieces were literally, small pieces. Unfortunately, we're going to return this...
Don't get me wrong, we love this place but lately, it's been inconsistent. We noticed this "change" ever since the original owners/workers haven't been in the shop. I don't know for sure, but I think they're not the ones who make the poke daily, and therefore, the inconsistency. Come to think of it, I don't remember being "salted-out" when I first ate the Ginger poke.
The line to wait was back to pre-COVID. Service is pretty quick, if you know what you want. That being said, I'm thinking that there may be a lot of new customers who take time to decide what they want and therefore, the wait time is longer than should be.
Updating my review (added a star) that after contacting the business, they got back to us and let us know that they are addressing our concerns. This is good customer service and shows they listen to what their customers say and make the effort to make sure the quality of their product satisfies their loyal customers. Kudos to them.Mar 6, 2021Previous reviewEvery time we go to Manoa Market Place, I ALWAYS look to see if there's a line and have to hold back my temptation to go over and pick-up poke to eat.
There wasn't a line at the time, and we had to do something beforehand and when we got back, the line was right about at the Starbucks entrance. We came back to this and I wasn't going to turn back.
Each order is made right there so it was about 15 minutes before it was our time to order. Initially, my wife said that she wasn't hungry (right!) but when she saw that they still had the 'Hawaiian Style' poke she said she was going to order. She said that most of the time when she goes, it's usually sold out. That piqued my curiosity so I decided to get that as well. She got the Hawaiian Style and Wasabi poke and I got the Hawaiian Style and Cold Ginger poke. And, as usual, we each got it w/sushi rice and all the toppings.
For those of you who ate poke long time ago, there was basically just two types; shoyu poke and poke with limu (a.k.a. "Ogo") round onion and maybe green onion, as well. The first piece of the Hawaiian Style that went into my mouth brought back those memories from long ago... the texture of their fish is "clean" and easy to eat. When you bite into the fish, it cuts nicely with no tsuji (tuff chewy stuff) to contend with. The limu adds a nice slight taste of the ocean saltiness to the flavor. You can tell that this is fresh fish because of the soft, clean, smooth consistency. If you don't know what I'm talking about, try eating Foodland's poke and compare it; there's is previously frozen. Of course, if all you've eaten is Foodland poke, then you're used to that and that is what you're basing your standards on. But I digress...
The Wasabi poke has a slight creaminess to it which enhanced by the light taste of the wasabi - not overpowering. The Cold Ginger poke (my favorite) reminds me of the taste of cold ginger chicken. If you like that and you like raw fish, you might just want to give this a try. Again, it's not overpowering enhances the flavor to the poke.
My wife, being my wife, in addition to her mini order, also picked-up a small order of the poke bomb. It's like an inari sushi topped with Spicy poke. If you want to try this, it's better you go earlier in the day because it's usually sold out toward the end of the day, and sometimes sooner!
I've probably mentioned this in a prior review of this place but my wife is quite the picky eater. She loves her sashimi and poke and she said, by far, this is the best poke because it's fresh. The owner also confirmed this as he said that they get their fish at the auction every morning and serve fresh ahi everyday.
Speaking of which, their service is always great. They provide quick service and they're all very friendly! You don't get this type of service at too many places these days. And for the combination of the freshness, taste, service, and friendliness of the employees, their five-start rating is well earned.Mar 16, 2019Previous reviewMy wife is very, very picky about the freshness of the fish used for poke. Well, this is our new "go to" place for poke and I must say, I'm starting to understand why. The fish has a very "clean" taste. I don't know how to describe it; you'll just have to try it.
They've been in business for about 5-1/2 months now and according to the workers, they're busy everyday and have their "regular" customers - some coming every other day.
This place is a "hole-in-the-wall" with a few tables inside and some outside, as well. The employees are very friendly. What's really cool is that they offer to provide a sample for you to taste the poke - awesome!
I've learned from my wife... sushi rice with a choice of poke and all the toppings. My favorite is the "Japan Delight" (miso mixed w/other flavors and with a hint of shiso) and "Cold Ginger Ahi".
Can't wait for my next visit...
