excellent Sardinian food in the heart of the old city of Cagliari. Great service too. Intimate, and such charming old architecture.

My partner and I ate at Osteria del Castello as part of a package set up by our hotel for a sunset tour of the castle and dinner. This winery does have a name for itself, but unfortunately this restaurant does not bring it out well.

The restaurant is just mediocre. There are so many random restaurants anywhere in Italy that serve great pasta and other dishes and you would not be able to tell from the outside, so it was all the more surprising that this restaurant was one of the least impressive we went to during our entire trip.

The dishes we ate basically lacked any seasoning. The soup was executed correctly as a gazpacho, but there was no richness and flavor. We didn't even bother staying around for the dessert, because there were mosquitoes everywhere and they didn't even bother putting citronella candles out to keep them away.

The tasting menu only came with their lowest versions of wine, but if you ask if you can get their more premium selections for free. They have good wine, so I would go to the tasting room but not to the restaurant.

It was Palio Saturday in Siena, and the evening of the big Italy vs. Germany match in the Euros, so we had the whole place to ourselves, which is actually a nice and peaceful experience, especially when sitting outdoors at the terrace and surrounded by the tall trees. After sightseeing the castle grounds and hitting the wine shop, we had an excellent dinner at the Castello Di Brolio's restaurant. Aubergine flan and the pigeon were the highlights. And of course paired with a smooth Brolio wine.
