Our unique hot dogs are served on a toasted bun. The famous cole slaw and chili are made fresh daily. The hamburgers and wings are also excellent.

A must stop for a hot dog all the way. They even have fountain Cheerwine. This is a little hole in the wall but it sure does pack a punch with flavor.

I've driven past this little joint so many times and finally made the stop. The food was fast and delicious
This is a little hole in the wall but definitely worth a stop. They have a small and to the point menu because they know what they're good at and they've stuck to it. There is a small space to eat inside and some tables outside of you want to eat there or you can get takeout.
Hotdog surprise all the way
Cheeseburger all the way - Aug 13, 2023Updated review
This remains my favorite hot dog joint here, even in a city that has a number of very good such places - Mr BBQ, Real Q, Kermit's, Grecian Corner, Joe's Takeout, Boone Doggies, Pulliam's, and Clark's BBQ in K'ville.
Started in 1987 by a brother and sister duo, it is still operated by the same family. The brother's nickname was Polar Bear, thus PB's!
The excellent hot dog chili is made fresh daily, as is the slaw, and the hamburger patties are formed by hand. The hot dogs are all beef with a very nice flavor.
This is the quintessential hole-in-the- wall hot dog joint - very limited seating inside, several outside tables; cash only; limited drink choices. The dogs are all you could hope for- all beef & grilled, buttery toasted bun, perfect chili, fresh crunchy slaw, freshly chopped onions.
The burgers are just as good, and the tots rock. The service is good, there can be a line at peak time but it moves quickly.
Come and enjoy THE TOP DOG!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Jun 14, 2017Previous reviewI love a good hot dog, and this little place makes a GREAT hot dog, and has since 1987, making it a mere infant when compared to the venerable Pulliam's across town which began business in 1910. I ate my first hot dog here the year they opened, and have not missed a year since, probably haven't missed many months, come to think of it!
Anybody can make a good hot dog, but consistently making a great hot dog, is a matter of all the components coming together with proper construction the final piece, and the chili the most important piece, by far!
Think about it - you can buy fresh, excellent tasting hot dog buns about anywhere; you can steam them, grill them in butter (as they do here), or just rip open the wrapping and grab one, au natural; you can freshly chop a good quality onion, slather on a premium yellow mustard, and make a fresh, creamy slaw; you can choose from any number of excellent wieners (although many in the South prefer the screaming neon red ones made by Curtis, Jesse Jones, or Bright Leaf), then steam'em, grill'em, or even boil'em!
But what do you do about that pesky chili - the item that goes on LAST, if the construction is as it should be, and ties it all together! If you buy canned, or already prepared chili, you will surely be disappointed, or at least you should be!
You make it from scratch - good fat content in the hamburger (70-30 fat mix, no less); some brown the meat, some just dump it in with everything, cover with liquid, and boil! The liquid - water, broth, something with a tomato base, some mixture of these, experiment! The other items - chili powder (of course, it's chili after all), chopped onion, yellow mustard, salt, and pepper - and yes, yellow mustard IN the chili, and my choice for the tomato touch is V-8 Juice!
Don't really know how they put their chili together, but whatever it is they do, it works - the only one I feel sure is better, is mine. My guess is that they do not brown their meat here, more of a total dump approach. There are only a few better hot dogs in the state, imho. These should be enjoyed! The hamburger is pretty damn good, as well! FF, meh!Sep 1, 2015Previous reviewWe were in Winston for a doctor's visit, and his office is just up the street from this great little hot dog stand, so of course, we dropped in for a quick dog on the run. It was around 1:30, so the biggest part of the lunch crowd was gone, and the hot dogs were quickly ready.
Just as messy as ever, just as good as ever.Sep 1, 2010Previous reviewI think this little place has the best Southern chili dog in Winston, and maybe the entire state. Nothing fancy, tiny place with limited seating, and parking - there is a chain grocery store with a big lot directly across the street. It can get crowded, so prepare - early is better.
The dogs (cost is $2.20, but worth it) are what to order, with fries ($1.90). They have other items (burgers are really nice, BBQ not so much), but I'd stick with these. These are old school dogs - no pretzel buns here. - 4014464474Dec 9, 2022
Don't forget PB's is cash only!
Normally I am always satisfied at PB's but for whatever reason the food was a bit of a miss this past time.
The positives: the chili cheese tots are EVERYTHING.
Negatives: the hot dog was a little... discolored. And had a funny taste. I normally love the burgers too, but this one seemed like it had been cooked just a little too long. Kind of dry.
This is the only "meh" experience I've had here. Gonna have to try again soon to make sure this was a fluke, hence the higher rating.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 4033412886Nov 9, 2022
P.B.'s is a friendly, fast and casual neighborhood take out spot serving up old fashioned burgers and hot dogs since 1987.
Inside, you'll find old fashioned bar seating lining the perimeter of the small interior. There are also a few picnic tables outside that offer additional covered seating. I tried a double cheeseburger for the first time recently and I am not making this up - the burger was stacked SO thick it was honestly hard to get my mouth open wide enough to take a bite! That just tells you how thick the burger patties are. I absolutely love their hot dogs because I grew up on this style of hot dog at the Tasty Freeze in my hometown not too far from here. The buttery buns wrap around the hot dog and toppings creating the perfect bite, every time.
I love how P.B.'s is located in the heart of the Ardmore neighborhood which makes things so convenient to walk and grab lunch if you live in the area. I will never quit P.B.'s!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Mar 24, 2023
I've been to PB 's before and always got the burger . This time I wanted to try the hot dogs because I heard that's what they are famous for. I'm pretty simple and only like ketchup on my hot dogs. So I ordered two with ketchup and an order of fries. I must say these hot dogs were pretty amazing. Definitely the best hot dog I've had since moving to Winston-Salem. This restaurant is is in the Ardmore community with a bunch of really cool little shops, coffee shop, and neighborhood grocery store right nearby. The service is great as I think I got them only about 10 minutes after I ordered. If you're in the mood for a really good hot dog, definitely check this place out.

Long time Winston favorite.
PBS has been around as long as I can remember and it's always such a time capsule back into a simpler time. It's a walk up restaurant that only takes cash so don't forget to take some out before coming!
Their hot dogs are grilled and stuffed into a buttery, crunchy grilled hot dog bun and their burgers are juicy, thick Pattie's layered with cheese and any of your other favorite toppings. Add a side of tots and your good to go!Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Feb 10, 2023Updated review
Still making a pretty good hot dog, these folks are. But the accoutrements are getting a bit skimpy. They are being more frugal with the slaw, chili, and chopped onions than I recall.
Nor were there any fried pies for sale during my last visit.
And I do wish the choice of beverages were more diverse. I have occasionally been known to buy a drink across the street at Food Lion rather than limit myself to a few Pepsi products.
Actual score: somewhere between 3 and 3.5 stars.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jan 13, 2018Previous reviewNot my favorite hot dog spot in the world...but easily the best hot dog place in the Winston-Salem area. And the burgers aren't bad either.
FYI:
Cash only, so be prepared.
Seating is limited -- roughly 15 stools inside for seating around the counter, and two picnic tables out front. - Mary Hilliard M.NC, NC0103Oct 9, 2023
Great hot dogs. Crispy fries. Exactly what you want from a hot dog joint - nothing fancy. Just good foot fast. Bring your cash because they don't take cards. Enjoy the picnic tables or head down to the park nearby.

I love a good hotdog! I especially love a good hole in the wall restaurant hotdog! This place definitely fit the bill! I got here right before closing, so hot dogs were the only thing available. No problem for me! That's what I came for! Hotdog was good, chili and slaw tasty as well! I definitely recommend stopping here for a good hotdog! It is cash only so make sure you bring cash.
