Paintworks & Decorating did a fantastic job skim coating and painting our entire 950 sq. ft. apartment! Ricky and Ryan provided prompt, direct, and complete communication throughout the project.
Our rooms look beautiful! The co-op we're in opened in 1957, so there was 65 years of sanding to really make the walls smooth again.
- We researched about a dozen different painting/renovating/decorating companies and met with 4 for in person walkthroughs before approving Paintworks' quote.
- They were not the lowest or the highest priced, but they were very clear about what expenses were associated with which services so we could make an informed decision about the size of our investment. They are absolutely worth every penny!
- We never felt like we were being "up sold" to a bigger budget, just educated on what would require more time or money. They really worked WITH us as much as FOR us.
- We specified the kind of doors and doorknobs, paint colors, and moulding. They sent a knowledgeable and polite carpenter to take measurements before starting work.
- They handled all the paperwork for our building management, buying the materials, and having them delivered.
- We were able to ask questions and get updates by email or by phone throughout the project, so I knew exactly when one phase was done and the next one was starting.
- They estimated 2-3 weeks for this project and their employees were in our home for 11 workdays. We met them the 1st morning, checked in on their progress once in the middle, and had a "finished product" conversation on the last day.
Super honestly: Ricky and Ryan are a little younger than us, and I can now say they are mature, experienced, and capable business people.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sarah B.Brooklyn, NY116139Mar 7, 2023
I was looking for a painter to do the walls in my BK apartment's living room and office. I had a tight timeline for the project to be completed, so finding someone to get this done soon could have been a challenge. But I saw good reviews for these guys on Yelp and started the convo. My contact at this company was Ricky. He got back to me pretty quickly on everything (his responses are brief but gets to the point!), and he sent a thorough contract/agreement before we started the job, to confirm the plan. I provided the paint. His professional and thorough team was done in half a day with both rooms. Several hours faster than I expected - a nice surprise. And they were skilled in avoiding the built-in cabinets I had recently gotten installed. The walls look beautiful! I would absolutely hire them again.

LOL this place is a joke. I send a video of a 3 bedroom apartment . And they gave me a quote of 4500 . Over priced company I seen.
By the way , Ryan Ehrlich keeps calling me because I made 1 star rating based off the quote and he said over the phone he will keep calling. Very unprofessional. He called me three time and I only asked for a QUOTE. I never said you guys did work. I do not agree with the quote it is my own opinion. He spoke with me and telling me that I don't support small business . And that's not the case. 4500 is a price if I would have a house. I don't agree with the price. Ryan, work on your professionalism. Because you calling me , 3 times , and then says to me , I will continue to call you is harassment. I will be visiting and speaking with your manager. Attached is a photo. This isn't needed . I asked for a quote. Nothing else
Unprofessional
Hey Ricky, it's not about being broke. It's about customer service. Who goes as a project manager and harassed a customer ? Explain that to me ? I make 90k a year. And I wouldn't dare to go to this place. You and your team is very u professional. Unbelievable. You calling me broke on yelp , is unprofessional . You don't know my life nor anything about me. How about you speak to me face to face , and have good customer service.
Your co worker tried to call me 3 times over a review. Stop crying like a baby. And deal with it.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 4Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you so much for your review have a blessed day

I sent a request for a quote via their website, and I received a text asking me to send pictures. So I did. The quote I got was $4500 + $300 for several kitchen cabinet fronts/4 and side panels. And it will take 7-9 days unless I'm willing to wait a month, then they can do it in 4 days. I asked why $4500 for just several cabinets, and he said I was not the right customer he was looking for. Then, who is he looking for? A sucker who'll pay up $4500+materials over a phone text? Not even a call, or a visit, just a text.
I have done a few small to big apartment renovations in Manhattan, including one bdrm+studio gut reno combination, a gut reno of a studio, and a couple of 1-bedroom gut renovations, plus two big house gut renovations in NJ. I have dealt with so many different contractors and people in this industry. I have never dealt with a business owner quoting me $4500 over text with no willingness to call or visit.
The level of unprofessionalism of this owner is baffling, and his incredibly rude attitude and disdain are the reason why I'm writing this review. Customers who are willing to pay do not need to take this. To those who are looking to paint their interiors, ask around and interview and see how they quote you and how they treat their customers. My experience is that those red flags do not get better once the $ is involved. They often almost always get worse.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I have had great experiences with Paintworks & Decorating for painting walls, floor boards, and local ceiling touch ups at my studio apartment. They are responsive, easy to work with, communicative, and have fair prices. I highly recommend them!

Ricky and Ryan were an absolute dream to work with. Ricky came by for our free estimate and was very clear about his color recommendations while also listening to our vision. The interior paint for our entire home was a big job and the day after our estimate, Ricky and the team started on the job. With 4,000 sq ft to paint, Paintworks had a huge team of 15 men everyday at the house for 12+ hours per day for three days. It was amazing to see these professionals work with precision and care. We had some holes in walls, intensive trim and moulding work and repair as well and they were able to complete it so well in the time we needed.
Hearing Ricky's story was amazing and I marvel at his work ethic and drive. I know I'll keep using these guys for varieties of projects for years to come. He does whatever it takes to get the job done (late night texts and calls included!) and that's the type of person that I always want to work with.
I know that in Ricky and Ryan I've earned some brothers for life and I can't wait until our next project! Special thanks to Jose and Jonathan who were consummate professionals in every way. Y'all are really the very best at what you do!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

- Flawed job and left a big mess behind
- When I confronted Ricky about it, I was met with an accusatory tone and unprofessional comments.
- Issues were ultimately resolved after much back and forth.
- Yesterday I discovered the check I gave them posted twice to the bank. Called my bank and learned they deposited the check to mobile app and then cashed again via a third party vendor.
Unprofessional and shady. 0/10Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

When I first went to give the estimate Jennifer was locked in her bathroom texting her dad to talk to me and he would say speak she can hear you and she will text me this went on for 20 minutes until she came out she was all paranoid about COVID-19 even though I had a mask came out for a 1 minute and I left. When I started the job we primed her walls and skim coated all the wall and ceiling joist crack. We were finished on Wednesday she was happy we met the deadline because she was moving on Thursday she called me Thursday at 8pm telling me how the place is a mess it will take her and her husband hours to clean I asked her how much will this cost to fix $400- she said she has to hire a profesional company to clean that I should give her $700.00 off. So I called cleaners that I have and it only took 20 minutes it was 2 empty water bottles and a little dust. She over exaggerated to get over and get a discount.Did you know she asked me over 4 times to lower the price again asking and asking. She said the painter had to fix certain areas he went back on Friday took 2 hours to resolve in the punchlist she gave me Thursday at 8 pm. Jennifer was also upset when the painter got there on Friday “saying he doesn’t want to listen or do what I’m telling him.”I spoke with my painter he sent me pictures of old green paint that was on the windows doors when the paint we used was Grey Owl from Benjamin Moore and I spoke with Jennifer and told her that we don’t clean old paint and she was upset once again. Always trying to get over. Now the check situation she gave me an out of state check the bank told me it would take 14 days to clear I couldn’t wait that long so I canceled the deposit was on the phone with Chase for over an hour and had it changed somewhere else. I even sent Jennifer a screenshot explaining what happened but she doesn’t want to hear it. Only want to focus on dust that was cleaned within the hour and the check.I sent her a screenshot doesn’t say anything positive about the work. Doesn’t say they met the deadline just comes to my page throwing shade. I don’t know what’s going on in your personal life or the problems you have but we went above and beyond for you. Anyone wants to see the text messages that I sent her I will screenshot it to anyone. She is very difficult and has issues.

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Ricky was very responsive by phone and text, answered all of our questions and gave us a fair quote quickly. The technician he sent was extremely prompt and very professional!! He patched up our ceiling and drywall and then even painted the entire bathroom to make sure it look as seamless as possible. The area looks completely new and beautiful. Great work, reliable service. We will definitely be a repeat customer for all jobs.

We found Paintworks and Decorating Inc. through Yelp and are we so happy we did! We met with a few different companies to get quotes to paint our 800 sq ft. apartment. Ryan was the first one to respond and was super responsive throughout the entire process answering our many questions. Paintworks was not the least expensive nor were they the most expensive (we met with five companies) but we just knew we would have great quality and wonderful service and we 100% did! I would highly recommend working with them. They said they would have the job done in 2-3 days and I figured we should add a few days to that since nothing is ever on time...THEY FINISHED IN TWO DAYS! And it's a such beautiful job, we couldn't be happier with the finished product.
You can see the difference in the pics from what we had before (off white) to what we now have (bright white). Jose and Luis were amazing to work with and so lovely!
Again, HIGHLY recommend working with Paintworks and Decorating Inc.!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jad M.New York, NY84526Mar 1, 2020
After purchasing a coop I had an urgent need to paint the entire apartment and remodel the kitchens and aspects of the bathroom.
Much like you, I spent hours pouring over reviews of companies, trying to get a sense of their work after having heard horror stories from my coworkers about doing remodeling work in NYC.
After doing some searching I initially had several companies come bid on the projects. Some of the companies were local, some from NJ. I ended up with several insane quotes for the kitchen remodeling.
In the meantime I had to get the apartment painted so I again met with some companies and one of them was paintworks.
Right away I knew Ryan and Paintworks were serious by the way he was extremely punctual and had an eye for details, such as the existing paint, the unmatched ceiling paint strokes etc. Ryan also estimated that his team could do this in one day. The apartment was empty - finally after having been quoted 2/3 days by various companies here was a company who was speaking the truth!!!!
Unlike other companies, getting the COI and all the particulars for the Coop board from Paintworks was a breeze. Ryan is extremely capable with cloud based tools so the transactions via email were trivial.
Some other companies had terrible difficulty simply scanning documents, or sending a quote.
Needless to say it was a pleasure to work with Ryan from initial meeting. His team appeared a little earlier than 8:30am and were done by 3pm. They had also picked up my paints and added a 5 gal ceiling paint bucket.
Everything from start to finish was easy and transparent there were no delays, hidden fees, no bs. So I asked the head painter "what about kitchens?" to which he replied "definitely talk to Ricky and Ryan".
Given I already had all the coop mandated particulars for Paintworks already submitted, I had Ryan and and a senior carpenter come again specifically for the kitchen and bathroom. Right away they gave me a quote for the entire job.
The quote was ready to be signed the next day.
Paintworks did a fantastic job. They went above and beyond - Ryan and Ricky were in constant contact during all phases of the demolition and kitchen buildout. I'll summarize why working with them was great.
- ALWAYS ON TIME
- they pickup all materials from Home Depot and even returned cabinets that I incorrectly ordered
- all receipts were provided
- unforeseen issues were dealt with safely and quickly, there is no appetite for risk
- carting of debris was done efficiently and the cleanup was very good
- management of the team tasks while waiting for cabinets to arrive was very good
- carpenter Danny is a genius, ask for him.
- picked up big pallet of cabinets , no issue, cabinets were all in good condition
- cabinetry was expertly installed.
- backsplash was patiently installed as I asked them to cut tile down in our maintenance room to prevent dust as we were living in the apartment already with a baby
- final billing was smooth with no BS or hidden fees and very conservative materials costs.
- they charge what they say they will charge no more no less.
For the project to be smooth - you have to have a vision and they will make it happen. You have to be able to order what you need and have it all planned I had the whole kitchen planned by Home Depot. Cabinets were from Spain, but standard sizes, to speed things up.
Ricky and his team are excellent. I would definitely recommend them 100% - I would without any hesitation have them do otherHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
