Q:
Do you guys have vampire crabs?
A:
They are restocked weekly. We just sold out of the purples the other day but we have a handful of the Banana Crabs on hand! Purples and discos will be restocked again likely midweek of next week

Great selection of fish. But most of all excellent patient customer service. Mason helped us and he was so knowledgeable with all of our questions.
Our 3 children wanted their first fish and Mason helped us out so much. He got us 4 fish and recommended food and plants for our tank at home.
We will definitely come back for any further needs!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ron A.Oceanside, CA855213Feb 25, 2024
Stopped by visiting from Oceanside in search of Koi angel fish, I couldn't find them anywhere, and they didn't have any in stock. But one of the associates showed me some nice platinum angelfish and shared that they would have some Koi angelfish in stock in the future. Great fish and customer service, glad I stopped by.

Bought a piece of spider wood here and put it in my tank, about a week later the wood started turning black. It also made my whole tank cloudy. I would be careful buying driftwood here!

Hi Esme! This is very normal for any wood to get “cloudy” and develop a fuzzy layer of “cotton” looking stuff as biological bacteria (good for the tank) develops on it. Wood does darken over a few days and inevitably turns your water a tad darker (all wood releases tannins).
As a business who loves our customers, getting anything less than a stellar experience breaks our hearts and we’d love to turn your review to a 5 star (anything less we just tear up as our team is passionate about this hobby and customer satisfaction).
Just to get some honest and fair feedback, would the two star rating go in regards to the experience of your visit with our store and the shop or simply just your experience with the wood? All woods will give you a similar experience (water turning color + darken + get fuzzy).
We’re here to serve. Thanks and appreciate your honest feedback! - Jeff A.San Diego, CA0164Jul 7, 2023
This is the premier freshwater aquascaping store in San Diego. As other reviews have said you will get top tier customer service and each employee has their areas of expertise.
The owner is humble, friendly, and always willing to help. The employees being happy to work there is also a very positive sign.
I've never had a sick fish or invertebrate from this store. And I'm confident they'd work with me to make it right if I ever did.
Their tanks they have on display speak for themselves
Go and check them out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chris Z.San Diego, CA03Mar 2, 2024
I've been a loyal customer at Tropical Fish Stop for over two years, but my recent encounter has left me deeply dissatisfied. Despite my past positive experiences, the store sold me fish infected with ick on my last visit. Last week, they refused to sell me eight cardinal tetras, claiming they were infected, only to discover this week they have over two tanks full of them.
It's evident that Tropical Fish Stop neglects proper fish quarantine procedures, prioritizing profits over customer satisfaction. The inconsistency in their statements about the cardinal tetras, initially claiming they had them for three months, raises concerns about the store's transparency and honesty.
This experience has shaken my trust in Tropical Pet Zone and I urge fellow customers to exercise caution when considering purchasing fish from this establishment. It's disheartening to witness a store prioritize profits at the expense of the well-being of their aquatic inventory and the satisfaction of their patrons.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Chris, we are fellow hobbyists just like yourself and fish health is our upmost priority and we’d never sell sick fish out of our tanks. We have additional tanks at our quarantine facility that have been around for a long while with stable batches of numerous fish, which is true as you stated. But if we see any issues (such as what you encountered some days back), we refuse to let anyone go home with fish that are showing signs of sickness or weakness.
We’ve been in business for well over a decade and wouldn’t be doing this if we didn’t have a love and passion for the hobby. Why run a fish store for the sake of profits when there’s other businesses with higher margins and less risk? This is our love, passion and blood/sweat and the entire team at the store is on the same page when it comes to this.
We appreciate all feedback whether positive or negative, thank you. - Marcus M.San Diego, CA844174421May 8, 2023
Petco & Petsmart are cool for basics, but if you're looking for expertise then make a visit here.
From salt to brackish (where ocean meets fresh water) to just freshwater there is tons of options. All the employees from what I've observed are very knowledgeable. Although we live in Chula Vista, this is my preferred destination.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - K A.Tucson, AZ0554Jan 18, 2024Updated review
They have a wonderful selection. The customer service was wonderful, and it was fun to have someone help walk us through ideas and brainstorm.

Stopped in when we were in the plaza. What a great little shop. Their filtration system is on point. The water & tanks were so clean which was nice to see.
They have a good selection of fish, tanks and live plants. My moms loved and had guppies ever since I was a kid cuz she grew up in Singapore where there were wild guppies in the waterways. So it was cool to see the variety and colors of guppies here.
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.
Can't wait to come back when our house Reno's are done for a tank setup.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
