Wow we just read tonight on Facebook that this great restaurant has closed its doors for good.
Maria, her son Giuseppe and entire staff were real honest terrific people and they will be missed!
God bless and take care Maria!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 14, 2019Previous reviewAlthough I'm a big Italian National Soccer fan and this restaurant is owned and run by Giuseppe Rossi mother and business partner, I am not being influenced by that sentiment.
This is a great BYOB Italian Restaurant that is deserving of all the great reviews it receives.
Grazie for an outstanding dining experience. - Oct 9, 2021
Ordered takeout from Piazza 22. The staff was very welcoming and the food was good. My wife ordered rigatoni ala vodka with grilled chicken and I had the Frutti di Mare with penne. Both were delicious but the sauce with the rigatoni was the highlight of the meal.
Liked the bread that accompanied the meal but was surprised there was no side salad. Portions were decent sized. We would likely come again.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 16, 2021
BYO and Go here for the special filet mignon truffle pasta and burrata! Also had Cesar salad, calamari and zucchini flowers. The food here was a pleasant surprise! Quality and reasonably priced! A large menu but ordered all from the specials. I didn't know what to expect since I had been here under different concepts and nothing seems to last but I hope this place does so I can try a few other items on the menu.

I was a huge fan of Pelligrino's. When they closed I started going to other Italian restaurant across the street. My wife found hair in her food on 2 separate occasions so we finally tried Piazza 22 for the first time.
We placed an order for pickup. You can go pickup and pay the host outside without going inside. I got the Linguini ai Frutti di Mare (Mixed seafood in marinara sauce). I think they have better marinara across the street but everything else about this dish was better! The calamari, mussels, and clams were all perfect. They were the best scallops I've ever had and I'm usually not a fan. They actually took the tails off the shrimp! Nobody does this even though everybody should.
My wife said the ravioli was the best she ever had. She said for the first time in her life, she could tell the pasta was made fresh with cheese instead of some frozen/ prepackaged dish.
The cannolis were awesome, definitely freshly baked. The filling was fluffy and not too sweet.
The patio has recently opened back up after being closed down due to COVID. The patio decor looked nice and secluded without distraction. I appreciate that the tables are nicely spaced out, we will be going back there to eat in the near future and I recommend you check it out as well for some delicious, authentic Italian cuisine.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Vincent C.Hawthorne, NJ05Aug 17, 2023
This was a decent restaurant, but it has closed its doors. Nothing seems to be successful in that location.

I was a huge fan pelligrinos which was at this location. This was where I had my first date with my wife almost 8 years ago. I went with my wife and son and enjoyed a nice meal. We went around 430 which was nice because there were not many people there. At pelligrinos we always ate downstairs. Was not aware that there was an upstairs dining room. Pleasantly surprised about how nice the upstairs is. They really made it look nice. Though the outside looked nice as well, we opted for inside.
We ordered mussels with white sauce which was pretty good and escargot. The escargot was good, but not as good as I've had at other places. Let me mention the bread that was piping hot and delicious. It was great to dip in all of the sauces.
We ordered specials for entrees. Wife ordered bronzino which she thought could have been cooked better. I ordered a special pasta dish and I was blown away. Typically I avoid pasta dishes, but the dish I ordered was great. It was a larger rigatoni pasta with pink sauce crumbled sausage and mushrooms. I ate the entire plate.
We shared a chocolate cake for dessert which was good also.
I was slightly disappointed by the lack of homemade pastas or dessert. I was told the pasta special was homemade. I could not tell for sure. But I appreciate the waiter answering my questions truthfully.
I also need to mention the wait staff was great. Our main servers and other members constantly made sure our glasses were full and table was clean. They always checked to make sure we were OK.
Overall a great experience. Was nice to be reminded of my meals at pelligrinos. I think PIAZZA 22 has its own chops and I'm sure the locals will enjoy. Will definitely be back to try some different items in the future.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ron G.Allendale, NJ0332Nov 19, 2022
We have been here 3 times now and the service and the food is outstanding. The owner makes the time to personally ask how we are doing with are meal. We will definitely be going back again it was a fun and great experience.

Great Food, Great Service in a lovely setting inside or out! And I love the BYOB feature. I do not drink wine which my husband likes to drink and I can bring my Jameson!

I really enjoyed this byob Italian spot!
Out town really needed a new place and this is a great fit. They really make you feel welcome and like an old friend .
The Caesar salad is really great I think they must make their own dressing. I have tried their salmon which was good but a tad bland and the shriimp which was great!!
My mom loves the desserts but I have not tested them yetHelpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Hisense T.Wayne, NJ128Dec 3, 2020
What a pleasant surprise. Been living in the area for years but never thought to drop in. I regret this of course. The service is outstanding. The food is authentic Italian. The cappuccino is perfect. Atmosphere charming.
The owner over heard me saying I forgot its BYOB and sent a glass of his own wine to the table.
You don't find gems like these nowadays. Will be back again and again. Bravo.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
