Let me tell you what, never judge a book by its cover. The look of the restaurant is not impressive but the service and the food is amazing. I had the steak saltado and it is easily one of the top 5 meals I've had here in Williamsburg, besides what my wife makes.
I highly recommend trying it. I know I'll be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 5002634Mar 30, 2024
I had extremely high hopes for this place. I was so excited to see so many authentic dishes and drinks that I would eat during my time in Peru. The atmosphere looked very welcoming and family friendly! The service was extremely horrible as we had to keep trying to get our waitress' attention but she blatantly ignored us and proceeded to check on other tables. It took us about 20 minutes to get our pisco sours as other folk who ordered after us got theirs before us. After we received our drinks, we finally placed our order and didn't see our waitress again. After waiting for an hour we said something and they had said it was extremely busy and proceeded to bring out other people's food as they ordered after we did. There were 4 other tables prior to us arriving as to which 2 already had their food at their tables. 3 tables arrived after us and 2 received theirs before we did. The waitress also proceeded to make excuses as to why ours isn't prepared yet. I wanted to wait a little longer so that there were some redeeming qualities about this place, but instead we had left without eating anything. maybe next time it will be better :) The empanadas we're good and the chicha morada was great as well! The pisco sours were so delicious as they tasted just like when I was at the vineyards in Peru. The classic, maracuya (passion fruit), and mango were amazing!

Pisco 51 in Williamsburg was a total disappointment. As someone who grew up with Peruvian friends and eating with their families, I had high hopes for an authentic Peruvian dining experience, but it fell far short of my expectations. First and foremost, the food was extremely salty. It also lacked the vibrant flavors and bold spices I associate with Peruvian cuisine. The Lomo Saltado was a complete disaster, and it tasted like cheap stir fry. The service was slow, and the staff seemed disinterested. The prices were exorbitant for the quality of food and service we received. The bill left me feeling like I had been taken advantage of. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It failed to deliver on every aspect; the service was lackluster, and the prices were unjustifiably high. Save your money and explore other options.

Came here on a rainy Friday night. We had just arrived at a timeshare after driving around 6 hours. We wanted a meal and didn't want to wait 2 hours for an opening. My wife is a fan of Peruvian food so we decided to give it a shot.
I ended up ordering Mixto Ceviche while my wife went for the 1/2 Peruvian Chicken. The Peruvian Chicken is definitely the bargain meal but we planned to share our dishes.
The appetizer (it looks like unpopped popcorn) is addictive; I kept nibbling on a few every minute.
When the food arrived we were a bit disappointed in the temperature of my wife's chicken (barely warm); the flavors were fantastic but we expected it to be warmer. They also gave her plantains (though she did not order them) and they were fantastic.
My Mixto Ceviche was very good but too spicy for my wife; as a result I ate it all. This is a full plate of food and I was stuffed. I felt the lime and spice combination was bit overwhelming and I can't say I loved my food. Maybe I don't like Peruvian food?
If I came back (no plans to do that) I would get the Peruvian Chicken with plantains and another side.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bebbie R.Laurel, MD020Mar 24, 2024Updated review
Unfortunately the chicken was very dry and had no flavor. We had Peruvian style chicken at other restaurants and were very disappointed. The staff was friendly but not attentive.

We are so glad we stopped here before we left Williamsburg. We ordered the family meal with the fried rice and sweet plantains, as well as the churros and something new, the lucuma ice cream, sweet and tasty. Also recommend the Pisco sour! Wish we had this place closer to us!

I'm truly surprised they were not busier. The food is delicious, packed with authentic flavor and generous portion sizes. I had the fried fish dish, and my fiancé had the mixed fried rice. I will absolutely be coming back, looking forward to trying their brunch sometime as well! The restaurant also looks very modern and clean.

Since our last few visits, they have made some very pleasing changes in lighting and decor. It's so much more of a comfortable vibe now, and more like a restaurant instead of a cafeteria. So much better!
We have eaten here a number of times for dates and with other adults, but this time we brought the kids. They loved the aji de gallina, as expected. The rotisserie chicken (on the back of the menu) was very over cooked and dry, which was a huge disappointment, and the rice was too peppery (black pepper) for the kids but we loved it. The kids really liked the oyster-sauce-based tallarines saltado. The kids ordered it with chicken but I think it would have been better with steak.
Chicha morada with rum has been my go-to drink for several visits, or a pisco sour, but this time I went with a different cocktail and was not disappointed.
All in all they are making delicious food, great strides in ambiance, and are often short handed like most restaurant at the moment...so bring your palate AND your patience. The meals are well worth it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Sep 29, 2022Previous reviewOMG. I posted pics from our date night meal here, and two of my friends messaged me right away and set up a girls' night out tso they could try it too!
This place used to be a Mexican/South American place called El Patio but recently the owners decided to re-tool and go with a menu only from their heritage, so it is alllll Peruvian food now. And it is damn good too.
So if you have ever had Peruvian rotisserie chicken, you will love their Arroz Con Pollo/chicken with rice. The rice has that same combo of flavoring that is on the rotisserie chicken and it is so good. The piece of chicken I got with it was slightly overcooked/tough but there was flavor for days. The aji amarillo sauce is like nothing I have ever tasted before...it's made from yellow peppers (peppers came from S America, so there is a huge variety of them in general...more than just sweet and hot) but it doesn't taste like sweet peppers, and it's not hot either...can't even describe the flavor. Weird to wrap your head around that it is a sauce made from peppers, but doesn;t taste like any peppers you've ever had...it is creamy and delicious!
The most interesting thing we learned about Peruvian food is that the base cuisine was strongly influenced by Chinese immigrant laborers at the end of the 1800s, so much so that Peruvian basic dishes include a lot of wok cooking and fried rice-type dishes called chaufa. Also stir-fried noodle dishes...it's Chinese techniques but with South American ingredients...try the Lomo a la Huancaina which has noodles to see what I mean...the marinated beef is so tender! The Lomo Saltado was also reallllllly good.
They also have ceviche that is to die for...if you get the spicy one (and I absolutely recommend getting the spicy one), be sure to order the sweet potato dish because the combo of sweet potato plus salty spicy sauce (leche de tigre) is seriously a revelation. (Ceviche Mixto) It's also the biggest portion of ceviche I've ever had and I am HERE for it. Every place should offer ceviche as an entree lke this, and not just an appetizer!
There are also: boiled potatoes covered in cheese sauce, and causa rellena which is like a stacked sandwich of cooked potato outside, with like a chicken salad inside. Everything is so interesting!
Make sure to get the flight of namesake pisco drinks! (Pisco is Peruvian white grape brandy) AND/OR a chicha morada (made from dark purple corn)! All delicioussssss.
I did not try any of the anticuchos (BBQ skewers) but can't wait to try them next time!! They looked fantastic on the plates at other tables.
The only things we all were NOT fans of:
* The empanadas were boring and a big let-down. We are used to Florida/Cuban style empanadas...compared to that, Pisco's are basically flavorless.
* The decor/vibe indoors is just plain sad. I realize they are transitioning from one restaurant to another, but it is truly shabby in there and does not feel like it belongs in the prime spot where it is. Some visibly broken hanging lights, mismatched "sturdy" chairs, big weird empty space at the front. And seriously, TOO MANY lights. It's like a cold cafeteria vibe except shabby...if they just turned off a few lights and made it dimmer, maybe add some textile decor for sound absorption, it would be much more comfortable in there...as it is, it's AWKWARDLY BRIGHT for a dinner spot. (or even lunch...tried that too) . The old neon El Patio sign is still up there inside, too, but not lit up, which is also just super weird. (Why not just keep the name in the re-brand?) The whole place needs a great cleaning and a paint job. - Smith S.Tucson, AZ081Feb 9, 2024
Amazing food! Friendly and courteous staff! This restaurant is a gem. If you've been looking for out-of-the-ordinary entrees with a South American flair, this is the place to try!

SORELY DISAPPOINTED!!!
Went out of our way on a trip from NC to come here and they weren't open (when their website and sign on business said they would be)! Ended up eating appetizers across the street only to glance up and notice people going into P 51s. We went in and ordered a pisco sour (it's in their name after all) and the ceviche mixto. Later found out that our server was the fall guy for their late opening. Apparently he was the only person including the owner who had a key to the joint?!?!? Beyond odd and barely believable.
The drink was very pretty in terms of presentation but just OK. The ceviche was seriously subpar. Way, WAY too salty to the point of swelling the fingers of both myself and my dining companion. My ring became a tourniquet on the drive to our hotel- no exaggeration.
Pisco 51 was a one and done for me.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
