Q:
Not sure if this place is still open?? Several different numbers listed online for this place and NONE of them seem to be the right phone number?
A:
Yeah, they don't answer their phone, and the number on the door directs to some kind of automated spam. Not ideal! I thought they were closed too, since you have to read the fine print on the door to know you… more

I happened to be near this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The space is full of art, inviting and allows for eating in. Staff were friendly and answered my questions. I ordered an iced "cup of commotion" and a breakfast sandwich with bacon. Both were yummy. I will be returning and I would recommend.

I've been coming here since they've opened... and seen the progressive decline. The outside of the building is unkempt, the walk thru has trash and the furniture is flipped over on the patio.
They were closed for months due to plumbing and they're finally reopened Thurs-Sun from 8am to 2pm. Only they don't open at 8am. I showed up at 8, and a worker showed up with me. I waited for 15min to let them get themselves together and saw leaving to buy ice from the gas station next door. I tried to order after and she didn't unlock the door just pointed at her watch. But y'all open at 8 according the sign on the door and your social media (where the comments are turned off)??? No one is forcing you to open at 8, if you won't be ready why wouldn't you just adjust the hours? Or arrive prior to open. I am a black owned business supporter, but y'all have got to get it together. It's 8:30 still not open... now I need to leave for work.
The food was amazing last time I was able to catch them when they were actually open. I was hoping to have it again... one day maybe.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - K. C.East Palo Alto, CA219547Feb 18, 2023
Certain folks wanna razz. Say I "eat tofu an s---" (and that the waft of frankincense and myrrh was because of me). So I'd rather not post this. #UnderYourSkin
But Kaffeine's beef sausage kolache had me.
The only reason why we wanted to swing by Kaffeine was to grab a couple of espresso drinks and pastries. Admittedly, there were probably better ways I could've spent this past week than studying Kaffeine's drink menu via Google Maps....No there weren't.
So, anyway, you can imagine how disappointing it was to see a little sign under Kaffeine's register saying their espresso machine was down. Ugghhh!
But we were hungry and happy to grab a quick something and get coffee elsewhere. We ordered a chicken, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich and a beef sausage kolache.
First up, the croissant sandwich that wasn't mine. It wasn't too big or small. It was piping hot. The cheese was melted, the edges of the fried egg were slightly brown, and slices/pieces of chicken had my kind of color on them. You could totally tell how it was going to taste.
Now look, I don't hate processed foods, and I'm not against people who consume animal protein. I just know how I like food to make me feel. And this beef sausage kolache taught me why certain meat eaters want to have a problem with what I eat and why.
When the little guy arrived, it was as hot as the croissant sandwich across from me that was still steaming. I was surprised by the amount of pastry dough wrapped around the kolache. But once I bit into the sausage, I couldn't have cared less.
Kaffeine wants the pastry of their kolache to complement the sausage, which was plump with flavor and just the right amount of juice but absent of fillers. And it only took one bite for me to understand Kaffeine's aim. So much so that I couldn't remember a time when I didn't want to ask for condiments like I didn't want to do while eating this kolache. It hit the spot.
We not only left satisfied with our food but vowing to come back for our espresso drinks WITH some more nom nom on the side.
Thx, Kaffeine! *Black fist emoji*Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 42250603Oct 30, 2021
We just went for the chai tea, which was absolutely delicious. The service was very quick!
The inside of this shop looks pretty cool and seems to give a dope vibe, however, I think it is temporarily closed. They do have an outside patio which is great when Houston is serving up excellent weather, like today.
Their menu seems to have some very tasty items which I look forward to coming back and trying. Definitely recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Carlisa B.Houston, TX117114101Jan 18, 2023
I am so torn while I write this review! I am one of the main people that support black owned businesses... I will go out of my way to support them, driving over 30 minutes or longer because I support my culture. But sometimes I feel that our support of them gets taken advantage of. I cannot believe a bacon and egg croissant cost over $11! Where do they do that at? They are more expensive then Panera and the sandwich looks about the same. It is sometimes frustrating to support when I have to pay twice as much for the same food. I love the ambience and the atmosphere in this place. My sugar-free vanilla latte is absolutely amazing and much better than anything at Starbucks. But dang $18 for a coffee and a breakfast sandwich! That's a bit much!! I'm just torn

Pros- Great environment to work/study, plenty of street parking, cute place, staff were incredibly kind and helpful
Cons- I didn't like the coffee I had, it seemed as though the AC could not keep up with the houston heatHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1850777Apr 29, 2023
We stopped by for some late breakfast before heading to the museum. I have to have my coffee fix in the morning and was looking forward to trying their s'mores latte. Was really bummed to have been told their espresso machine was jamming. Absolutely no coffee. That meant I had to leave afterwards to another coffee place. My only complaint was their streamline. I waited, waited and waited until the lady was coming from the back, coming up front, bringing out an order to a customer, coming again to the back, coming up front and so and so forth before taking my order. There's one person heating things, another making the coffee and the girl taking orders. I felt that orders should be taken firsthand and then bustle about. I left disappointed that I couldn't get a coffee. Paid around $30 for a breakfast sandwich, a matcha for my husband and a croissant. Little expensive for what we got. But I would give them another shot if the coffee is available next time.

I'm so glad that I ran into this place! Orgena, the owner, has an amazing presence. She is friendly, helpful and the passion that she carries for her business is palpable. Based on the conversation we had, she mentioned that she loves to support small businesses which is a plus plus plus in my book!
The food was hot, delicious and tastes fresh & full of care. O didn't ask but the sausage tastes freshly handmade. I ordered an espresso and it's basically a double; the taste is rich and velvety which tells me that they use quality beans for their brews. This is my new favorite coffee shop! I come to this area twice a month to get a massage around the corner at Relax Health and part of my trip will include stopping by Kaffeine, guaranteed!!
The atmosphere gave me hipster vibes yet felt very soulful! There's a ton of support on every wall, lots of art and handwritten support from the community. This is easily a community staple. I hope that she stays in business for generations! I recommend this spot to anyone who wants an outside the box meeting with colleagues, students who want to kick it with great vibes, great food and great drinks! They also have an outdoor sitting area!Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0 - Apr 29, 2021
My mom lives nearby so I've come here a few times when I visited in the past couple of months, so I've never been here before COVID. However, I wish I had because this seems like a nice place to grab coffee and sit and do work! I'm not sure if they recently opened up indoor seating (though I saw someone inside the last time I went), but they have a small patio area outside with around 4-5 tables. You order from the window outside and they'll bring your items out to you. Customer service is also very friendly and helpful.
The first time I came here (in February 2021) at around 8am, I tried ordering kolaches or a croissant, but they said the kitchen wasn't open until later like 11 or something. I'm not sure if it was just that day they were not ready yet, but I came recently at around 10am and I saw a few people with croissant sandwiches. They looked pretty good, but I wasn't hungry at the time so I didn't get anything :/ I would love to try their food one day though.
Drinks are a little on the pricey side, but they all come in 12oz (or maybe 16?) cups so they're not small drinks. In fact, I don't know if I've ever finished a whole cup by myself lol. My only criticism is that their specialty drinks are way too sweet for me.
A few drinks I've tried (in order of preference):
1. Iced cup of culture: This drink is not TOO sweet but definitely has some sweetness. It's a very smooth and rich drink, and I could really feel the caffeine, though it might have been because I was gulping the iced drink down on a warm, Houston humid day. I also think the ice cubes are a mix of regular ice cubes and coffee ice cubes, which I think is so interesting and innovative! I've never seen another coffee shop do that before.
2. Deja brew: This was the first drink I've tried from this place. I remember I specifically wanted a drink that was less sweet and so they recommended this one, and I think she also made it a little less sweet for me. It was solid as I usually like drinks with cinnamon.
3. Morning Fix: I couldn't finish this drink because it was too sweet for me. It's a drink with espresso + drip coffee + sweet cream, but really it just tasted like a coffee with milk and lots of sugar. So if you like sweet coffee drinks, I'd definitely recommend this to get your day going! However if you don't, maybe not :) (though maybe you could ask for less sweet?)
I think in general when I read "sweet cream" I think of like Starbuck's sweet cream where it's only a little sweet and balanced with the coffee's bitterness, but in my experience here, the drinks just taste like sugar coffee? Personally, it's nice to indulge every now and then but I can't drink something like that all the time, so I'm probably going to stick to just drip coffee from here from now on.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katrell M.Houston, TX041Jun 30, 2023
This place is never open. It says they open and 8am I went there at 9:30 am and the two ladies inside ignored me until I knocked more and the said they closed. I asked what time do you open they said 10am because although maps says 8am. How can you be a coffee shop and not open until Brunch time. Fix your listing.
