Established in 1948. The Plaza Shoe Shop was established by Guido Canclini as a repair shop. There was high demand for quality boots to support the thriving logging and construction industries. Naturally the store evolved into a high quality, full service boot shop. In 1991, Guido was ready to retire from the "grind" and sold the store to Jim and Renee Gutierrez. They were both self-trained shoe makers and were tired of all the traveling that they had been doing over the years to various shows throughout the western states.

On the past I have purchased shoes here, however today I showed up planning on buying a new pair but I guess I came to late? The agent told me it was to late and they were closing. That would be fine but closing at 4pm whose idea was that? Also if your a neighborhood store you should at least let the last customer continue with their purchase.
That's the problem with not haven the owner still doing the sales.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Robyn M.Sacramento, CA1662071663Aug 24, 2017
When shopping in Arcata this is a go to spot! It's a cute little shop about a block away from the square.
The staff are all friendly and helpful. They have all the great brands dansko, earth, naot, jafa, l'artisan, uggs in the most current and trendy styles. They also turn over their shoes frequently and have an excellent sale selection!!! Score!
I believe for regular priced shoes they have a 14 day return policy and sale items are final sale (from what I remember).Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Lisa J.Arcata, CA19341Jun 25, 2019
This place is the Best. Lovely high quality shoes & boots. The two women working there today were incredibly helpful assisting me in looking for a good work boot for my oddly sized feet. Also a fantastic sale rack!

I was in Plaza shoe shop today for the very first time I felt very comfortable and the sales reps were very attentive the whole time and patience with me they even made me custom shoe laces which I've never seen before. Reading the prior reviews of this store I was a little skeptical going in but I was pleasantly surprised as to how good of an experience was. I will definitely be back!

Great selection and service. I was immediately welcomed by friendly knowledgeable staff who sold me a new pair of Keens and some insoles for my favorite pair of boots. Fancy foot machine that analyzes your feet and makes recommendations.

I went to this shop for years, before the current owner ran it. I think he took over from his father. I went in one time and was treated with a lack of respect by the owner, and called a liar for a simple claim I made about how long I'd been a customer. I've never been back, and take all my shoe work to Eureka (Grundmans) and buy shoes elsewhere.

I was in need of new shoes while traveling (I'm from Germany), as my old ones started to fall apart. I walked into Plaza Shoe Shop and was served remarkably well. The lady who helped me was incredibly friendly, spent almost an hour's time with me looking for the "right" pair of shoes, and when it looked like there's no perfect match for me (I'm a size 12 1/2) she even sent me out to look at other shoe stores and a thrift store. I ended up buying a pair she found in the last minute, the cheapest of the lot and the perfect choice. They're pricey but I'd shop there again for the incredibly friendly, pressure-free service.
Note: they require ID when you pay by credit card, so make sure you have some on you. No idea whether that's customary for smaller businesses but it was the first time it happened to me in the US.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marc M.Arcata, CA022May 14, 2017
This is a wonderful little shoe store--they have knowledgeable, friendly sales people, and they carry only high-quality products. Clean and pleasant interior, and they also have the really great perk of a free boot-oiling station where you can come in to oil up anything you bought there.
They also used to have a great cobbler who, at least at one point, could re-sole anything they sold. Sadly (for the rest of us), he retired recently, and they no longer do on-site repair. They can mail a pair of shoes back to the manufacturer to re-sole, but that's all.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
