This place goes by many names, including "Punjab Afro Market" and "Punjab Foods". This is the best place to buy plantains in Berlin (they offer three levels of ripeness), refried beans, and they sell more affordable corn tortillas. It's not the nicest or cleanest experience but they have the best variety.

This is a food supply place, indian, pakistani, asian and african, with a halal butcher. These guys rock. The owner can be kinda unhelpful, but there are at least two staff who also know english and are helpful. Just be respectful - pay it forward. It comes back to you.
The butcher is separate, but usually also very helpful and well-regarded around the area of the places to get halal. Lamb, beef, various parts of animals, sometimes poultry, good prices, good service. Also frozen animal stuff separately as part of the main shop.

Only accepts CASH or EC cards, NO VISA!
Be aware if you use your EC card, that the bill may not appear until the end of the month on your bank. This is because some merchants only run the charges in batches every two weeks or at the end of the month, and this is one of them.

Awful, awful grouchy and inploite services. However very good Indian food that tastes nearly as good as back home! I wish they woul put more effort in the friendliness of the service that I am used to in Indian Restaurants, it would completely light up the place!

This is the biggest supermarket for Indian, Pakistani and African food I've seen in berlin with a large variety of goods. I really don't know much about African food (though they have a lot of it), so my point of view is mostly over the other types of food they sell here. The prices are overall fair (sometimes cheaper) when compared to Berlin specialty/ethnic supermarket prices. The staff are always helpful to me. The place is usually busy, so products move fast and are typically fresh. The spices are of a really good quality too. I really like the wide range of flours, grains, legumes, beans; ready made paratha, pickles and chutney; the fresh produce like plantain, bringal and chilies. One can eat healthy and never get bored as long as they shop here! Goodbye boring German food and hello flavour heaven! They have a lot of snacks and sweets as well. The store also has a nice selection of Henna and carry a large selection of African beauty products including hair/hair-pieces.

They are very close to public transportation, but a bit hidden (the entrance is in a small alleyway within a very small street "Tromsöer Str.", which barely looks like a street if you ask me). It is the biggest store that I've seen specialising in Indian or South Asian groceries (I don't know of many others that do). They also specialise in (and have got a sizable selection of) African goods, with a few Arab and Far East products thrown in the mix. The prices compare well with Asian shops that sell similar items. I usually go there for spices, parathas, dahl or canned desi/kala chana myself - but they offer much more. They have a produce section, a refrigerated section, and a frozen selection that are all reasonably sized for the wide variety of foods that they carry (you might not find your favourite kulfi, but you can get some frozen samosas, etc.). They have a nice selection of pickles, chutneys, sweets, snacks, grains and a lot of different flours. They also have a few oils, including mustard oil and other asian food staples. They have a large selection of mostly African beauty products (soaps, creams, shampoos and even hair extensions) and they carry a few reasonably priced hennas. I'm sure there are a few things I'm missing, but I can only suggest one go there to check it out in person. I've had no problems with the staff, they are even really nice sometimes (but not overbearing), they just have the typical Berlin disposition I'd say.

      English:
'Punjab Food Traders' is rated 'okay', if all you want is retail and don't care much about customer service. I deal mostly in larger quantities so that is my bias; when I order something it needs to be delivered within a certain window so other people can make use of it. The average level of customer service is at best moderate and it highly depends on who you get [there is a very helpful man stocking often, although he is not the proprietor]. The location is pre-stocked with a selection of african, indian and east-asian foods, along with things like PG Tips tee in small to very large quantities. A large assortment of pre-packed rice in 5, 10+ kilo bags.
The older operator is only interested in strictly retail limited to the existing shop, and busies himself with that, and has little or no customer service skills. I hope his son may be better.
If you want anything in quantity, for economical deals and quality customer service, go to HARB, Potsdamer Straße 93 (also listed on Qype). If they don't have it at the HARB, they can get it within a few days, sometimes by the next day. Not several weeks or months.
No special orders through Punjab Food Traders either! HARB may appear to have a smaller stock-room, however, they can get it quickly whereas pledges from the operator of Punjab go unfulfilled after weeks, months.
