So I had to write this in my notes app en route home..lol that's how annoyed I was.
Now maybe annoyed is a bit of an overstatement, since I knew what I was getting into by simply walking into a local nail salon. Nail art has literally taken the world by storm and these fly by night places are only good for quick, simple and relatively cheap manis and pedis. I absolutely would not patron for anything else.
Needed a quick gel mani and pedi for a domestic flight. Was in the neighborhood as I had to pick up some new specs and decided, "Why the hell not?"
Pluses? Quick. The lady who did my nails was catching a quick catnap upon my arrival, where another lady sat getting a pedi. She seemed niceish at first, but quickly turned sour when it came time to pay.
Cons? Always upselling of products, I got it again cus, "Why the hell not?" The it in question was some callus service or whatever where they wrap your foot in saran-wrap for what should be ten minutes, but wasn't and take a cheese grater to your foot. I could have skipped out on this, but wanted to support as covid has reaped havoc on small bizz.
My toes were done relatively well. Fingers too. Nothing special or anything to gush over. It's funny, I remember seeing this place packed over summers when I'd go to eat in the area - and I honestly just think it's because of the sheer convenience. Maybe 3-4 other custies came in for services but because it was just the two of them, (nail techs) they were turned away.
My total was 83 bucks, and I was only planning to tip a few bucks since the one nail was messed up, which I know she saw and tried to level with topcoat. I do nails myself and whenever I pay to get them done at a local place, I'm always reminded why I should just do them at home!
She got upset at the tip amount and so an argument didn't ensue, I gave her a few more bucks. As I was leaving and saying bye, she said nothing LOL. Her body language and presence wasn't the most welcoming - not that I need that to survive as a native new yorker..but I knew it was amount money. *eyeroll*
Would not recommend. But if you simply MUST, 2/5. Good for quick and efficient services when you can't afford or get instagram quality nails on the fly.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ashley S.Astoria, Queens, NY1363Jun 10, 2021
I've been to Q Spa twice now, each for a pedicure, and I'll keep coming back. The first pedicure definitely had a lot of bubbles, but the second one was perfect. I think it depends on who you book with.
Will note a common trend in these reviews - they will try to upsell you nearly every chance they get.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Melissa Z.Brooklyn, NY209214Apr 21, 2022
Went here for the first (and last) time yesterday for a manicure and a 15 min chair massage. I thought the manicure wasn't great and then proceeded to have one of the worst chair massages I've ever had.
Let's start with the manicure:
My first hand went pretty smoothly for the cuticle pushing/cutting. Nothing out of the ordinary. For my second hand, she took out a cuticle shaving appliance thing (never seen one of those before since I only ever get basic manicures, no fake nails etc.) and used that. Not sure why one hand got a machine but ok. Then when she was cutting my cuticles, my thumb bled a little bit, which is not that uncommon, I know. Still shouldn't happen, but such is life. Typically, when I've had this happen, the manicurists apologize and put those sterilizing drops on or whatever that stuff is, and hold a paper towel on the spot until it stops bleeding. But she just ignored it and kept doing stuff to my hands - massaging with lotion and stuff- which I thought was really gross because I'm sure she touched my blood with her fingers so eventually I had to ask her to put the stuff on and then she did. No apology for making me bleed. What happened to extra sanitation/cleanliness due to covid? (I know she's not going to get covid from touching my blood, just totally squicks me out).
As for the 15 minute chair massage: She unzipped my shirt and unhooked my bra and used lotion all over my back which is a bit weird for a chair massage. Wasn't what I was looking for. Especially because she put her lotiony hands all over my hair and scalp too, which completely messed up my hair. Way worse than that, about 20% of the time her nails dug into my skin. I actually had scratch marks on my neck and back that I saw when I looked in the mirror after I got home. That's never happened to me before in all the years I've gotten massages. She also grabbed my skin in really weird ways that did not feel good. Ow. Really unpleasant way to "relax."
In the end, if you're looking to just get a manicure, my nails look totally fine and it was only $12. But definitely avoid the massage.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emily W.Woodside, NY1812445Dec 18, 2019
My nails look awesome! They are like Disney princess nails and so far they have lasted
The women there are super sweet and helpful. I accidentally put a tip of like $100 instead of $10 on their credit card machine and they cancelled it immediately with no trouble. Actually pretty affordable for a spa pedicure and manicure. I was impressed. Highly recommend :)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dorothy F.New York, NY34418267Aug 9, 2020
They cut corners on actual services and charge $4 for using your credit/debit card! Horrible customer practice!
will say the main woman at the front is pleasant but rest of the staff hardly say hello. I got a regular pedicure and gel removal of previous pedicure. The woman didnt even turn on my massage chair or ask/offer to but instead pointed to all the pedicure options to upsell me. When I asked for her to cut my toenails shorter, she said "no, file only" Ok, thought I was the customer?! I let that slide only to wait almost 2 hours to get my hands done ( gel manicure and soak off of previous acryclic tips)
when it was my turn the woman in Front did thank me for waiting but then after removing my color and a lil filing, proceeds to begin painting the Gel WITHOUT cutting my cuticles or even cleaning up my finger nails!
When I asked," doesnt a manicure come with Gel?" then she grabs the bowl of water to soak my hands and begin to actually clean up ny cuticles! Then she states it's a diff process for dip powder- although I told her I didnt want the dip, I wanted Gel. Pretty crazy how she just tried to avoid giving a full manicure but charged $35 for Gel and then an extra $4-5 for using my credit card.
Terrible first impression given I just moved to the neighborhood- Very unlikely I will return!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Lalita D.Brooklyn, NY39112140Oct 31, 2018
I've been here a couple times and have never been disappointed. My usual is to come in for a gel manicure with a 10 minute massage and it really does the trick every couple of weeks to help me reset.
The staff is really friendly and accommodating - I've always felt welcome and that I've received great service.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 9, 2017
I had the best customer service experience here last night - not just at a nail salon - but at any establishment - that I've had in a long time.
I have two nail salons on my block, which both close at 8pm. It has been difficult for me to get home by this time lately by the time I leave work, get on the subway, feed & walk the dog, etc. and I was in dire need of a pedi. I decided to try the next block over and sauntered in here at about 7 minutes after 8. The sign on the door said they close at 8, but Joann graciously accepted me and explained they are trying to stay open until 9pm during the summer, which I can only ascribe to smart business practices.
Not only was the pedi amazing, but Joann was sweet and funny and went above and beyond providing a shoulder massage while my toes dried, accompanied by relaxing music and aromatherapy.
I have to say that having two nail salons on your block means very little when both turn you down and another a block away gives you service at this level. I will definitely be back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mani S.Brooklyn, Brooklyn, NY62475Oct 23, 2019
Even after telling her I don't like my nails they look messy and uneven and not smooth (bumpy), the nail technician DID NOT CARE! She applied a messy top coat and told me to go dry! I felt rushed and it shows in her work!! So disappointed, will not return ever!! She had the audacity to ask for tip and me being non-confrontational still tipped her!! I want my money back, so so upset! What even is this???

I live in queens originally and part-time in Brooklyn so I needed a nail place. I searched many places on the area 5th ave alone has about one on each block (which I tried). I was so happy to find Q-Spa. They staff is always friendly and patient. I got an SNS by my house that was horrible and they helped me out. The pedicure was everything that I wanted needed and more. Yes they charge extra for using your card but what nail salon doesn't now. The picture I'm sharing is about 4 weeks & my pedicure is minor chipped.
