As a new resident of Radford and a foodie for life, I have been on a mission since I moved here to try as many different places to eat as my meager student budget will allow. Now, I love fried chicken and I had already visited the Bojangles a couple times, so I hopped online to see if their were any mom n' pop places nearby that serve the classic southern staple. It didn't take long for R&R Market to pop up in my search results and its reviews were fantastic so I gave it a shot. Boy, am I glad I did.

This was some of the best fried chicken I have ever had in my 36 years. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right (many places get it too salty). I really can't get over how good this chicken was. I'll catch hell for saying this, but it was better than my momma's. The mashed potatoes were very tasty as well and I really liked the gravy that accompanied them as well. As you all know, gravy at restaurants is usually hit or miss, but this was a grand slam. The cole slaw was also quite nice. It was cool, tangy and sweet, without being cloying. Next to the chicken, though, the biscuits were my favorite part. When I placed my order, they said it would be a few minutes before the biscuits were ready. I started to tell them that I would be fine without them and be on my way because I was in a bit of a hurry. However, another customer - who could tell I had never been there before - urged me to wait, assuring me that they would be worth the wait. He was certainly right. These biscuits were not only divine, but completely unlike any other biscuit I had ever had. Though they were certainly different, it didn't take me long to figure out their secret....they deep fry them. That's right, they deep fry their biscuits. They were soft, tender, and had taken in just enough of the fat give them a subtle nuance of flavor that took them from excellent to absolutely phenomenal (especially when you drizzle on some of the honey they give you with them). If this sounds odd, just think about the little cinnamon donuts that most Chinese restaurants have - which are actually made the same way by frying the dough - and imagine a savory version that perfectly suits a nice platter of fried chicken.

Now I must mention that you shouldn't be swayed by the appearance of this place. It is essentially an old (yet fully functional) convenience store on the outskirts on a residential neighborhood. The building itself is a bit worn and dated, but the kitchen is clean and the staff are friendly as can be.

I could really go on and on about this place, but I've already written a review longer than most will probably read. Do yourself a favor and give the chicken at R&R Market a try, I promise you won't be disappointed.

TL/DR: Best fried chicken ever; seriously, it is the best. Deep. Fried. Biscuits. Don't let the outside of the building fool you. You will fall in love with the food here.

If I could give this place -0 stars I would do it. This place is absolutely disgusting. It stinks in there. The food is old. They sell expired snacks candy vapes. All of there vapes are expired and they continue to sell them. Always a bunch of people hanging out around the building. The place is a shit show and shit store. I don't no what the smell is in the store but if there homes smell like that then they need to tear them down. I have a lot of friends and I will make sure they never purchased anything from these nasty people again. I seen bugs crawling in the food and I was like nope nope not me. Which I would never eat anything out this store to begin with but I am tired of them selling expired vapes and cigarettes. R&R Market y'all are nasty people and a nasty store. I will be calling the health department and anybody else that I can to investigate this place. So make sure you get the bugs out the food before they come cause trust me you will not continue to rip people out of there hard earned money. Go back to your nasty country that you came from. The United States don't need y'all.

Grew up right near this place and have been going since I was a child. (Anyone mentioning the area this is in needs to get out more, they have absolutely never left the state of VA and possibly Radford if they think this is sketchy) Though I no longer live in the area every time I visit my Nanny I have to stop by and get me an order of potato wedges and a biscuit. I've been to many places but have never found an R&R replacement and never will. The store is a lot tackier since the new owners but as long as they keep the original recipes they are alright with me. Long live R&R Market!!!

Tried their fried chicken and quick fried honey biscuits. Yum, both were so good. While waiting for my order to go, local customers came in and ordered their lunches to go, and struck up conversations with some of them. They talked about how good their biscuits were as well as the fried chicken. I recommend trying this place for their takeout chicken and fixings.

Try the fried chicken and wait however long you have to for the biscuits!!! The biscuits were a texture I never had before, very soft and fluffy and buttery. I waited until my last summer in Radford to try this place and I regret it. Delicious!

Everytime i come to Radford, no matter what I stop and get some chicken tenders here. Even if we've eaten somewhere else, I'll get it to take home. (They warm, and crisp right back up like fresh the next day in the oven for about 10 mins at 350°!) I live an hour away and my aunt who lives in town let me in on this secret and I've never not stopped by since she did. Make sure you also get some potato wedges, slaw and DEEP FRIED biscuits and some honey!!!

This place is a hidden gem in Radford. Despite this place being right in the middle of the worst area of Radford, the snackbar is on point. Never been disappointed with my orders. Doesn't take long to order, pay and get out either.

Highly recommend the chicken and burgers.

Hands down the best fried chicken around. If you want some serious comfort food (they literally fry everything, even the biscuits) this is the place to go. Always fresh and always good.

For $5 and some change you can get the fried chicken dinner which comes with three huge pieces of chicken, biscuits, cole slaw and potato wedges. Also if they have the chicken salad sandwiches (they don't always) get one!
