Really cozy ramen spot. My friend and I met up for dinner on a Wednesday night. We had to order at the front first before seating ourselves, and there was one lady who was working the front and going back and forth to the kitchen. We ordered the gochujang wings to share, and we each got the tonkatsu ramen. The wings were surprisingly good. They had a crisp outer layer while the meat itself was still juicy and tender. The sauce wasn't too spicy but instead had a nice kick with a bit of sweetness. As for the ramen, it was good. I would get it again, but it wasn't anything special. The food came out relatively fast, and the ambiance was nice with the dimly lit lights.

The ramen was one of the best I've had! It is on the more decadent/fatty side but the flavor of the broth and the way the pork is grilled is so good! The ajitama egg didn't stand out but it wasn't bad either. There wasn't much interaction with the workers, but we got seated quickly and food came out quickly. It's low-light and comfortable inside and they were playing Totoro on the tv, so that definitely gets bonus points.

Made a post online in STL group about ramen bcus I'm moving here soon and addicted to ramen. This place was highly recommended. Ok. Let's check it out.
Walk-in and you are asked for your order at the door. Little odd but okay. We ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen add mushroom and we added an order of chili paste (host never said that there is chili oil on the tables so you may not need this). Asked for suggestions on sake and he gave us two but it's absurdly priced so be aware of that as he didn't mention the cost $20 & $22 on cold sake that didn't even give us a tingle let alone a buzz. We also ordered 2 ginger salads (also not mentioned that they were share size and we may not need two). Then the automatic 20% gratuity added to dine in. Okay so now we're at $120 for ramen, salad and sake.
You are given a number and allowed to pick your own table. Great.
The salad comes and it's huge see pics and the server said they are shareable so she's was shocked we got two (never being here before we didn't know) that's why I said the host didn't mention it either. The salad also didn't have a list of ingredients on the menu either and it should because the salad comes with cashews in it and people allergies need to know that especially since you pay at the door. The lettuce also was huge pieces that was not easy to eat and no knife was at the table.
Two bites into this salad the ramen comes. Looks delicious but the broth tasted like nothing (from the recommendations this broth was the best in town) I wonder about their palates now. I had to get up and go ask for soy sauce to help it from another guy behind the counter. I had to go ask for scallions from the hostess. Server no where to be found so why the automatic gratuity? Once I added enough soy and scallions and the chili paste that we only needed 1 of in the end we were able to eat. The bigger issue of all was the texture of the noodles. They were way too soft. And the 2 slices of pork belly was shocking also. For there to not be Many options on the menu here literally 2 ramen choices. I expected mind blowing ramen.
I would not go here againHelpful 3Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 1 - 347359440Nov 25, 2021
We had a fantastic experience at Nippon Tei previously and wanted to try the Ramen side and Ramen Tei did not disappoint. This side is quick service, first come/first serve. Be ready to provide proof of vaccination prior to searing.
We enjoyed the Steam Buns to start. They were divine: perfection from the cook on the pork to the delicious sauce to fluffy bun. I would have loved even a few more! For our main course, we enjoyed the traditional Tonkotsu Ramen. The broth is seasoned beautifully, pork belly is flavorful while cooked perfectly, the noodles are abundant & delicious and the egg is quite possibly one of the best ramen eggs I have ever had. Definitely a 10/10!
Service was great from start to finish! If you haven't been here yet, definitely add it to your list!Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Katie E.Broken Arrow, OK17288463Mar 10, 2022
This is a quaint little ramen shop. Service is friendly, ambiance is calming, restaurant seems clean and most of all the food is amazing!! My husband and I had the miso ramen with added pork belly, and it was good to the last drop!! No leftovers this trip!
Only downfall is surcharge of 20%!! That's incredibly steep for a place that doesn't even have normal waitstaff. We just had two bowls of ramen and water, and our total came to nearly $50!!! Holy cow that's insane! Ramen was good, but not that good.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melissa L.Saint Louis, MO3011725Dec 22, 2021
Best ramen I've had so far in STL. Ordering happens at the front before you sit down, so be sure to look at the menu ahead of time if you have commitment issues like me. Decor was super cute and dimmed lighting made it a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Each table had togarashi (dried spice mixture), la yu (chili oil), and a pepper based spice mix.
My friends and I all ordered the tonkotsu ramen with some crab rangoon. The crab rangoon was made with egg roll wrapping for the outside layer - I've never had it made this way and I've got to say it's much better than the usual thicker fried layer! The shape made it easy to have the perfect filling to wrapper ratio in each bite.
As for the ramen, the broth was savory and creamy without being overpowering. The chashu (pork belly) was melt in your mouth. Egg was nicely soft boiled. There were plenty of noodles, which had good texture - however they were a bit clumped together.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ian _.St. Louis, MO12402Feb 17, 2023
Had some fairly decent ramen and Bao buns. Ramen was a bit more on the heavier side but was still good. would recommend!

Very good ramen, I didn't like that they automatically charge 20% gratuity even for dine in, I'm old fashioned and still believe TIPS are ... "To Insure Proper Service", that being said, the service was excellent and I would have left at least a 20% tip, so it all worked out. But, I more than likely won't choose Ramen Tei to be one of my top "go to places", because the whole advance, no choice gratuity thing, deep down bothers me, and I don't like it.
The ramen, was very good, no complaints and deserves 5*sHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jackie S.Washington, MO112Jun 11, 2022
I'd been craving ramen for a while and finally decided to give this place a try! Did not disappoint in the least! The gyoza was fantastic as a starter. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. The pork belly was cooked to perfection. So much flavor! And the ajitama egg was delicious. I'm so glad I ordered an extra egg! Definitely will be returning!

BEST Ramen in STL by far! I've had their tonkotsu, shoyu, and vegetarian ramens and all are outstanding. Be aware 1) proof of vaccination required for dine in and 2) currently they are a separate restaurant from nippon tei (meaning you can't get sushi when dining in at ramen tei). Love this place and will continue to come back again and again!
