The Lamb Chettinad & Chicken Korma & Garlic Naan where outstanding. Will go back. Great area. Downtown Gaslamp on 5th is closed for traffic. Great for walking after eating

Naan Naaan Naaaaaan

One of the best naans I have eaten including in India. We were in SD for a conference and ate dinner here on day one then had to go back on day 3. Rest of the food was also decent. Would advise to remove bell peppers from butter chicken.

Food was good. Ambiance is very dated. Service was good. This is more like 3.5 star review. First time I had the chicken byriani was fantastic, & the samosas were solid too. Not the greatest value, but what is these days in the homeless shelter we call the GASLAMP.
So why the negative review?? Look at my picture, I ordered the Chicken Kebob with rice, no extra sauce?? & it was actually bland, the other item is something they call Onion, Lemon chili salad?? Does that look like a salad to you??? It looks like a few pieces of raw cut up onion, & a quarter slice of a jalapeño, & this was $5?? lol lol lol!!!!!! A Joke?? No, LOOK AT PICTURE!! No dressing?? This is why you got 3 stars. These two items were $29!!!!! Ummmmm no thanx

After the first visit - I declare Royal India my favorite Indian restaurant in San Diego!!!
Located in the Gaslamp district interior is organized to look old fashioned and "Royal". Bright lights, chandeliers
and Royal-style chairs!
Food was to die for. I did indulge in vegan dishes starting with Samosa and followed by Aloo Tikki which I had for the first time! Main dish was Channa Masala with extra hotness to it. She had Aloo Gobi which was to die for.
Service was good. However - there is a correct stereotype
about Indian waiters regardless of the country in which the restaurant is. Good service with fiat personalities.
Still always nice!

Hands down the best Indian food I have had in San Diego!
The ambiance was elegant with a touch of royal flair.
For starters we had vegetable Samosas and Aldo Tikki both were extremely favorable.
My main course was Aloo Gobi. Man, it was delicious!

Very nice ambiance and the food is amazing. I had the lamb vindaloo (hot) and garlic naan. The lamb vindaloo was the best I've had in a long time. Sorry, I didn't get any pictures. The food disappeared before I could get a shot.

This place was pretty good for the most part, but the service is very lackluster. The staff is all over the place, and we got charged for multiple items that we never received. They did not show us the line item bill before charging, and notified us after charging.
The food is good though, the chicken chettinad is actually quite spicy and malai kofta is very tasty and well spiced.

Overall, wouldn't recommend unless it's takeout, and check your items to ensure everything is included.

Best authentic Indian food I have tried in so long!! I got a Groupon and ended up paying like $10 plus tip after we were done. The food was so delicious, the restaurant might look old and outdated, but don't be fooled by it. They have been there for many years and there's a reason why, they're one of the best!

Yesterday, I joined my friends for dinner and indulged in some delicious food, particularly enjoying the veg kebab. The service provided by the staff was exceptional.
