Scogna Custom Tailor And Formal Wear

Dil is exceptional at his craft. He has always been friendly and welcoming, and has always exceeded my expectations. He has worked on jeans/pants, outerwear/rain jackets, dinner jackets, suits, and dresses for me and my girlfriend, and we are both consistently impressed with the quality of his work. Whether it is a next-day alteration on a tight timeline or a custom suit/tuxedo, Dil is my go-to guy, and I will continue to give him my business in the future.

Dil cheated me and lied to my face about it:

I'm sorry to have to report that Dil, the tailor and I think owner of Scogna Formal Wear, perpetrated a fraud by switching out the Ralph Lauren tuxedo I purchased from him last Wednesday and giving me a completely different After Six tuxedo when I went to pick it up (after he was supposed to alter it) last Friday. I didn't realize it until I put on the tux for an event Saturday night and it was clearly a different (and much worse) tuxedo.

I cannot be more clear. I purchased one tuxedo. He measured me in this tuxedo for alterations. Then, 2 days later, he handed me a completely different tuxedo without saying a word about it. I can be 100 percent sure this was not an accident. When I confronted Dil about this today, he admitted he had switched them. He said he had decided after I left that the first tux (Ralph Lauren) was too big for me and this one (After Six) was better. Later in our conversation, he changed his story and said it was a mistake. Then, he switched back and claimed he did it because the After Six tux was better (which isn't true).

It took me 30 minutes of arguing before Dil refunded my money. I have an audio tape of the entire conversation so Dil cannot contest anything I'm writing here. He lied and changed his story and then profusely apologized. He only gave me my money back after 30 minutes of arguing and pleading, offering to give me free stuff, etc. I told him I didn't want anything from him but my money back.

This store has been in DC for decades and lots of famous people seem to trust Dil. I won't tell anyone what to do, but this was my experience and it was a terrible one. I will never trust Dil or patronize his business again.

I brought a bridesmaid dress in to get tailored. When I retrieved it, there were still a number of adjustments that needed to be made or were not done properly. The tailor was very rude and unprofessional - each time I tried to express that the dress was uneven for example, he talked loudly over me to drown out my voice in an attempt to suppress my concern and claimed, "I don't see anything wrong, I don't see anything." He made me wait for 30 minutes while he was on the phone for me to pick up my dress. When he finally agreed to take in a small amount of fabric on the side of the dress, he did it so carelessly that the dress puckered and looked worse than when I brought it in. He was rude and stuck a finger in my face and yelled at me when I tried to politely point out the asymmetry. Finally, I took the dress to another tailor in Dupont Circle and they clearly marked with chalk how one side of the dress was close to 2 inches longer than the other side due to careless tailoring. They encouraged me to return to Scogna Tailor to ask that he fix it given that I had paid approximately $200 to Scogna Tailor for such minor alterations that were done so terribly. Honestly, I would be frightened of returning; given that he's had two chances to tailor a dress and ruined it both times, I wouldn't trust him to tailor my dress to "fix" things a third time. Maybe he only treats women this way. He may have tailored items for heads of state and ambassadors in the past, but the lack of service and poor attention to detail and quality that I experienced certainly did not live up to the reputation and I could have gotten equivalent or better service at a local dry cleaner's.

Dil is a rare breed. A true tailor, dedicated to his craft. No frills, no pretension , simply obsessed with perfect execution and making your you get the best. You are in the most excellent of hands with, Dil. Rest easy knowing he will not rest unless you are satisfied.

I have never gotten anything tailored before but i had a new pair of trousers that were sold out online so i went to Scogna to get the waste taken in and not only did he take me in after hours on a friday but he measured the adjustments on the spot and insisted i go grab a coffee as it would only take him 20 minutes to do. It in fact took 15 minutes!! Dil was a pleasure to talk to and he even took some time to tell me stories about the many famous people he has tailored for (Tom Hanks, the Clinton family to name a few). You could say i felt a little ridiculous being little old me with such a mediocre request, yet Dil was happy to do it. Can't thank him enough for the great conversation and even better pant adjustment (they fit PERFECT!). I will be back and highly recommend Scogna for all your DC tailoring needs.

Amazing tailoring service!! Dil is the nicest man and was so helpful. He made my oversized pants fit perfectly and adjusted my corset beautifully! I couldn't recommend this place enough!! Will definitely be coming back whenever I need any alterations!

I took a pair of pants in for a hem today and he did them right then and there in under 10 minutes for no extra charge! He's a very nice man and does great work! Thank you Dil!

Mr. Dil is the only tailor I ever want to work with again. His shop reminds me of times lost to the growing impersonality of the service industry; it is refreshing to know there is still class in the game. With great professionalism, character, and prices, Scogna is a place I would happily return to with any and all tailoring needs - big or small.

We came to Scogna to rent a tuxedo for my brother's prom. Ismet, the owner, was very helpful, and we got a well-fitting one in no time at all. Great experience!

Dil was highly attentive and helpful on my arrival. He was very accommodating about my timeline and had my suits ready when he said he would. The work product was great, he was even nice enough to make on the spot adjustments to suit pants I wanted made more narrow. He knocked that out in 15 minutes!
