Protip: Try it at least once to support a local business!
Highlights: Phenomenal customer service, restaurant is really cute and clean, love the environment. Food is tasty for sure and it's the only place in the valley you can get momos!
Lowlights: It's a little pricey for a small portion of momos.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Mar 8, 2020
Great new spot for a casual meal in the East Valley! I hadn't tried Nepalese food before dining here and was excited to see this restaurant come up on my Yelp search. Momos are becoming (or have been) popular for some time now & I've seen photos all over IG. When I saw that the menu at Sherpa Kitchen had a few different kinds of momos listed, I wanted to go try them out.
We ended up ordering several items for our meal here ... The Creamy Curry Momos with chicken & Creamy Curry Momos with vegetables, Wok Fried Chow Mein with chicken, Thukpa, & Gundruk Ko Jhol.
I personally enjoyed the momos the most; the curry that they were immersed in was not only a great consistency, thick & creamy, but was also really flavorful. We had gotten the chicken ones for dine-in & also ordered the vegetable ones to-go for my parents. I sampled both and preferred the chicken (they seemed a little more flavorful) but both were good.
Our server mentioned that their Momos, Chow Mein, & Tikka Masala are the most popular dishes. Based on the recommendation, I got the Chow Mein for my meal. It was good, but a little too spicy which I thought took away from the flavors of the actual sauce .. all I could taste by the end was chillies. I believe the entrees are customizable for spice level; our server didn't ask for preference but I will inquire next time. Considering how good the curry was in the appetizer, I'd try out the Tikka Masala next time.
The Thukpa & Gundruk Ko Jhol were both soups, however had distinctly different flavors ... the Gundruk was more tangy whereas the Thupka was spicier. It's hard to describe the taste, but both were unique & tasted good. The Gundruk was from the "soups" section of the menu, a smaller portion than the Thupka which was a noodle soup entree, a larger portion.
This is a fairly small restaurant with only a few tables and booths. Not sure if they offer reservations for larger groups, however Friday evening when we had dined, it was pretty busy so it would be worth the call-in. Everything on their menu seems to be made-to-order as well. Dishes came out hot in a reasonable amount of time. I look forward to dining here again, however, I will note their prices are a little higher. All momo dishes are $12-$14, same with all the entrees. Overall though, if you're looking for something different, definitely a good option! Same with if you're planning on sharing dishes with a group, their menu is perfect for that!Helpful 30Thanks 0Love this 23Oh no 0 - Sep 18, 2021
I loved trying the Nepalese/Himalayan version of the dumpling! Momos! Reminds me of the Korean version called mandu but with coconut curry sauce. I ended up ordering the chicken steamed momos at the Gilbert farmers market, and even though it was on the pricier side ($12 for 8), everything is made from scratch with clean ingredients. Unfortunately they sold out of the coconut rice pudding, but hope to try it next time I stop by their booth. Very nice staff who believe in their food and love their customers.

Finally got to eat momos! I really love momos - the south asian dumplings. They are a popular street food in India and traditional food in north-east India. Sherpa Kitchen seems like newly opened and is a cute, clean place serving nepalese food.
The highlight of this place is the food ! The food was really good. Highly recommend momos, both traditional and chilly, with chicken or vegetables. Also recommend their chowmein. It was really good, chicken in it was so well marinated and had a beautiful ginger flavor. The noodles and sauces were also delicious and give you a hint of Indo-chinese cuisine. The chilly momos and chowmein were perfect spicy for us, but may not be for everyone. The chai or tea was alright, the donut with it (sel roti) was really tasty and paired well with the tea.
The food presentation was very good, appealing and appetizing. As another yelper said, more like a fine dining place. Prices are reasonable for quantity and quality, except tea I think was priced higher than it really should be. The menu is limited, but had a good balance of vegetarian and meat. I don't remember seeing any other meat on the menu than chicken, but I maybe wrong. Service was really good. Food came out quick and any special requests were entertained.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kelly S.Chandler, AZ21204497Jun 6, 2021Updated review

My favorite thing about Sherpa Kitchen was the filling in their vegan momos! Momos often suffer from being bland, which is why I ordered them with the creamy curry sauce (masala) despite maybe not being the most 'authentic' way to have them. The masala sauce was delicious, but honestly the momos didn't need them. If I were to return, I'd get them steamed in traditional style.
The chow mein was nice and spicy and absolutely stuffed with veggies. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wished there were more noodles! After awhile it felt like I was eating a veggie stirfry with no carb base. Partially due to that and partially due just to the overall portion size, I was not full splitting these two dishes with my partner even though we paid $28.
Not the best price to portion ratio in the world, but I'm glad this spot exists. I'd return for their momos any day.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Briana N.New York, NY290447May 3, 2020
Who knew the best Asian food in Arizona would be right here in Gilbert? I've been to Glai Baan, Sumomaya, Clever Koi, and China Magic Noodle House (all fairly good), but Sherpa Kitchen rises above them all. To stay sane during our stay-at-home order, we look forward to our weekly takeout from here. We go all in on a family size Chicken Tikka Masala because why not? You'll eat it all anyways and you won't regret splurging on the bigger order. Savor every ounce of that Tikka sauce, soak it up with rice and naan and you'll be a happy eater.
My personal favorite is the Chicken Chow Mein. When you think takeout noodles, you might expect just sauce, noodles, and some barely cared for protein and veggies. Not here! This dish has layers of textures with crunchy, fresh vegetables, incredible spice, and the chicken in it is fantastic. It's not just a bit of boiled chicken tossed in... far from it. In the midst of delicious noodles it stands out on its own.
Of the momos I've only had the chili ones so far, but the sauce is great and thick.. we even saved it to eat with rice later in the week. The chicken in the momos is delicious and juicy, and seasoned very well.
We can't wait to order again, and again, and again.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Mar 27, 2020
2nd time. We have to support small businesses during this Social Isolation time period...and these guys have the food to justify a safe curbside pickup!
Chicken tikks masala. Samosas. Delish. Got a #3 spice. Can feel it but not too hot.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 3344951130Feb 11, 2020
When my friend said there is a new Himalayan food place in town I couldn't wait to try it. I went for a Friday lunch and the place is conveniently accessible. There was a food truck standing outside called Himalayan momos and I assumed this is a food truck to restaurant story. That left an impression on me about the place.
This is the only Himalayan restaurant in the valley. I was immediately seated upon arrival and it was not crowded. The menu is super simple and I went with one traditional momo and a cup of chai.
The dumplings (momos) arrived warm and the presentation was neat. I took the first bite dipped in the chutney(sauce) it was delicious. The chutney was spicy and had great flavors, it felt home made. The dumplings were soft but was a little chewy and had good amount of filling. Towards the end the momos got a little chewy and hard, that was the main negative.
The chai was one of the best I have had in a long time, great flavor, perfect taste, color and consistency. The traditional snack they offered with the chai was average. It lacked the taste.
Overall a good place and will be back for momos. It is quite filling. The price is a bit on the higher side, otherwise a great spot of visit.Helpful 29Thanks 0Love this 24Oh no 0 - Feb 16, 2020
My friends brought me here while I was visiting the Phoenix area and I was blown away by everything we had. It's been quite some time since I last had Nepalese food and seldom do I find it so fresh, flavorful and not the least bit heavy.
We started with Taruwa, a fried vegetable appetizer using cauliflower, okra, and onions. There were three accompanying sauces, my favorite being the mint and the spicy red. The chickpea flour coating was delicious and so flavorful.
The Aaloo Achar was absolutely fantastic. The potatoes were perfectly al dente with a fabulous achar. I grew up eating a version of achar and this just reminded me of childhood. It was one of our favorite dishes.
Tikka Masala Bowl was lovely, but definitely needed to be eaten prior to everything else because it is on the subtle side when compared to the other dishes.
Chili Momo was packed with so much flavor and the best momo I've ever eaten. I've had momo at several other restaurants across the globe and have never loved it. This, however, was just stellar. The dumplings were not huge and the wrapper perfect in texture and thickness.
It was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time.Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0
