Why?
The breakfast I had at 9:30 on a Sunday morning was FANTASTIC!
Homemade sausage gravy on biscuits with hash browns and a side of sausage. (On the menu it's called the Belmont.)
I found this place here on Yelp and checked the menu.
When I went in to Shenanigans I was greeted by the bartender who was busy, but she still had a moment to smile and welcome me while giving me a menu.
I noticed the prices here on Yelp and on their menu were different, so I asked the bartender if she was the manager.
At that moment, Jeannie (I hope I spelled her name correctly.) was walking by and said she would be with me in a moment.
(Most managers are expecting a "Karen", so I kind of felt bad asking for her, but I also wanted to make her aware of the price differences on Yelp and their menu.)
Come to find out, Yelp had higher prices than the reality.
I'm from NJ/NY and was in Leesburg for work.
You are not going to get as good a breakfast as I did for $11 anywhere else!
Go find out for yourself and you'll most likely feel this place worthy of a similar rating and review.

Stopped in to Spanky's Shenanigan Pub on a Sunday for brunch.

The place was packed - there are two sides to the pub - from what I can tell, the left hand side is for smokers - the reason I state that is there was a gentleman smoking a cigarette holding the front door open for an elderly couple - he then went back inside and to the left - still smoking a cigarette. I opened the door to that side - and it smelled like cigarettes. Yuck.

So I went over the other (right) side - which did not smell like cigarettes. There was one booth open - which I snagged. My server arrived promptly and presented me with both brunch and regular menus.

I ordered the "Belmont Ridge," which is sausage gravy over your choice of bread - I opted for their buttermilk biscuits - served with hot, crispy breakfast potatoes, and your choice of meat (I went with bacon). I added two eggs over easy - and coffee and water.

Coffee and water came out first. Standard coffee - nothing interesting about it.

My food order came out shortly afterward. Most of the food was hot - the sausage gravy, was lukewarm. You could see the bits of sausage in the gravy - but, as with so many sausage gravies - the gravy is under-seasoned - and it really doesn't taste like sausage. I added black pepper, salt, and Cholulu hot sauce to the gravy to amp it up.

The potatoes were hot and crisp - but they too needed seasoning. The eggs were cooked properly and the bacon was crisp and tasty.

Checking in with the Yelp app secured me a 20% discount off of my bill. A paper bill was brought to my table on a small clipboard - so no Apple Pay option - at least by default.

Service was good.

A staple of Leesburg since the early 2000's (maybe even before that), it's a neighborhood favorite spot to enjoy good eats, watch sports and some live music, and get your drink on. I've been coming since 2007 when I was in Leesburg so it's only fitting that I finally get to writing about the spot.

It used to be one giant bar space since smoking was allowed. Not sure when it was updated but it's separated now where the left side is for smoking and the right side is non-smoking. Probably one of the few bars I can think of that still allows smoking inside; good thing it's separated. Not sure how people can enjoy eating shrimp or burgers while sucking down marlboros. But that's none of my business.

Now for the place, there's plenty of TVs to watch your NFL Sunday ticket, March Madness, or whatever athletic spectacles that catch your attention. Sometimes they'll have live music or trivia/contests as part of the entertainment. Either way, there's options to keep you engaged.

Drink-wise, draft beers are cheap and they have some deals on NFL Sunday. With some domestic pints at $3.50, that's not a bad deal. They also do some great bloody marys for brunch if that's your thing. Food-wise, typical bar eats and they do great with those. Wings are delicious as well as their loaded tots. Peeled shrimp/seafood is available as well. The menu is quite extensive so you're bound to find something you'll enjoy while you're here. Plus breakfast is served everyday from 8-11 and extended until early afternoons on Saturday and Sunday. Most important meal of the day amirite!?

Bartenders, while busy, are attentive and get you what you need in a timely fashion. I appreciate that I always had a beer and my water filled and never had to flag anyone down for that. Being in the service industry before, I recognize the hustle they do and they don't take it lightly.

Definitely a Leesburg favorite and glad to stop in here when I'm in the area!

Summary:
Good food for breakfast at affordable prices, served up by a friendly staff! The regulars were welcoming and fun to talk to as well. The odor from many years of cigarette smoke eventually faded away, so don't let that stop you from trying this place out!

Extended review:
If you haven't noticed yet, I love, LOVE, going out to breakfast. I work from home, so it's the only chance I get to interact with adults, other than my lovely wife, most days. As I normally do when exploring culinary options, I searched Yelp for a new place to try.

I was hesitant to go to Spanky's for anything other than a few beverages with friends and only when I can go outside. Inside, even on the non-smoking side, the residual cigarette stench.

The reviews were solid for breakfast, so I decided to give it a go anyway! I am really glad I did, thanks other Yelpers!

Since I was a party of one, I sat at the bar. The bartender/server was very busy. She was still pretty quick to get my drink order; which was coffee (which was pretty decent).

It was not a short wait; which was fine by me, given how busy she was. Eventually, she got around to me; with my coffee and the she took my order.

They had biscuits and gravy on the menu, so I had to try it (if it's on the menu, I will try it; I am still looking for B&G that is as good as Triple XXX Root beer in West Lafayette Indiana! Boiler up! Alas, I am still on the hunt). However, their B&G is still yummy!
Note: there is a decision you'll need to make between regular sausage or the house sausage (unlike liqueur, house meant it was made just for them). I went with the house sausage and it was really good. The regular sausage is like the kind you can get from the grocery store.

The food was pretty good. But what really made this place a good spot was the service and other patrons. I had a great conversation with my neighbors and the bartender.

I was so engaged with them, I forgot to get a picture before i started eating! I managed to remember about midway through my plate.

My wife, daughter and I ate there on 4-15-2023 for dinner. We had the loaded tots for an appetizer. Delicious. We all had burgers. I had a build your own burger, chili, Thai chili sauce, mustard and onions. Burger was cooked perfectly. The sauces came on the side. The chili itself was decent. The Thai chili sauce was outstanding, sweet, spicy absolutely delicious . Not a melt burger but very good.
Good food at a reasonable price.

Pleasant local dive bar that reminds me of my college days. Dog friendly patio in the back, slot machines on the inside, and lack of alcohol menu but they try to accommodate all drink needs. Free parking in the front.

Definitely have the basic necessities for your needs. Staff/service give that local welcome and a warm but distant embrace. Multitudes of tvs inside and even a smoking section indoors Prices for food can range from 10s to 20s and everything slaps (in a good way). I recommend the hoops tea (alcoholic) for the hot weather on the patio.

As always, the best shrimp in town! Great place to hang out and watch football or meetup with friends. Great Pub!

This place is a joke. I've spent quite a bit of money at this establishment, & they've got some pretty flakey people that work here. They literally made things up about me, & refused my service on some made up accusations. I get that a couple of their employees don't like me, but I don't appreciate being treated in the manner I have from the people that work there. This place has patrons to match, I've ran into some of the worst caliber people in the entire area at this place, yet I still came to this place for the cheap drinks & decent happy hour... but watch out for their staff in particular. It's a shame... I hope they have an overhaul, because they need it.
